ITV Granada (formerly Granada Television, and commonly referred to as simply Granada) is a regional television service in North West England provided by ITV Broadcasting Limited. In its heyday as an independent company, prior to merging with Carlton Communications to form ITV plc, it was the largest Independent Television producer in the UK, accounting for 25% of the total broadcasting output of the ITV network.
It lost its on-air identity in 2002 (now known as ITV at all times).
Although Granada as a company ceased to exist in 2004, due to a merger with Carlton Communications, the newly created ITV plc continued to use the brand on several of its operations. All in house productions were credited to Granada until 2007 when productions became credited to ITV Productions. The Granada name continued in use for productions for other channels until 2009. International use of the name continued until 2013.
Granada ARE still around and are known as ITV Granada.

I think 2000s kids will remember the 2004 Granada logo because they helped in the development of the Pocoyo series :P

13:07 How strange, I've just realised that the jingle is the exact same one used by the IBA at the time for their ident into the engineering announcements, albeit slightly pitched higher for the Granada ident.

There was also a Welsh version of the "From the North" logo, as Granada at the time also produced Welsh-language programmes for the short-lived Teledu Cymru. It was just a straight translation in the same format as the English logo, reading: "O'r Gogledd / GRANADA / YN CYFLWYNO"

During the last few months of the 1995 ident being used, something shocking happened to Granada’s news operations. A graphics package based off the 1995 graphics package that was used by Hearst Broadcasting was adopted and it remained in place until shortly after the 11 September 2001 terrorist attacks. Original plans called for the use of Gari Media’s music package known as Image News, but these plans were rejected due to EU regulations at the time limiting the use of music packages from non-EU based composers. Sky was the only UK broadcaster that was legally allowed to use music packages from the company and it was used from 1988 until the early 2000s.

ITV Granada, formerly known as Granada Television, is the ITV franchisee for the North West of England and Isle of Man. From 1956 to 1968 it broadcast to both the north west and Yorkshire on weekdays only, as ABC Weekend Television was its weekend counterpart. Granada's parent company Granada plc later bought several other regional ITV stations and, in 2004, merged with Carlton Communications to form ITV plc.

I couldn't believe that like Carlton they dumped all the names of the companies they'd purchased. To see the words Granada London instead of LWT was beyond disgusting. At least now it's just ITV even though it is utter rubbish with the same old garbage pumped out 6am to 6pm and then soaps with ridiculous storylines and characters that should have been dumped years ago.
