To be fair to Carlton, I liked their incorporation of a diverse, real set of Londoners into their earlier idents. Man there were a lot though! They could have cut some of the less impressive performers. They also probably did the best job at marrying the identity of their franchise in London with the ITV network - wasn't a fan of subsuming the identity of all the other regions they ended up taking over. The ITV hearts into Carlton star with the smart little ITV logo below the Carlton logo looked much more professional than when the Granada regions all adopted Meridian's font and stuck each regions logo in a box. Also better than the 1989 triangles of mystery.
@@minerbloxer6471I agree, Central had some of the best idents on ITV, and then Carlton blew all of them up. I never watched TV in the uk, btw. I just know this by research
The Central-designed idents were stunning for their time, they would still hold up today. It's a shame that Carlton didn't seem to know how to use them; they'd clearly been designed to work like Central's own idents where the announcer is supposed to talk immediately they appear and then conclude the announcement as soon as the logo forms up without there being a specific formup phase and jingle that plays and a holding phase for the announcement. However Carlton seemed uncomfortable with doing that and the end result was they let them play a bit over music that is supposed to be talked over and the announcer ends up talking over silence. You can see in some announcements they tried cutting in earlier but still didn't seem to quite change their presentation style to match the way the idents were supposed to be used. As a result not surprising they didn't last long but it's a shame as they were well made enough to have lasted years.
I have this vague memory of when Carlton ditched Central’s classic in house logos for their own. I was gutted as a kid. Even then being so young I had this feeling that it was an end of an era. Of course I was too young to be able to put that feeling in to words.
Some people think 1:01:23 is scary, but I saw it as a kid and it never scared me. I think the fact that it was on my Old Bear videos specifically helped me not be scared by it.

1993. The year when us Londoners heard that famous line "You're watching Carlton. Television for London". Carlton was the first ever regional ITV station to feature members of the public in their idents. Genius idea or what? It's a regular thing to see nowadays on most terrestrial and cable channels.
Carlton also reunited ITV which I personally think was a stupid idea because now we dont get Regional News and Identities anymore but luckily ThamesTV made their official Archive
@@robloxtvTVR we do get regional news. Three at weekdays and once or twice at weekends as ITV News London. There's also a local current affairs programme which comes on a Thursday night once a month. And that's it as far as regional ITV is concerned.
Gosh I remember so many of these, the guys juggling and some of the others, it's crazy to think the children in these idents have probably got children of their own now, some maybe even grand parents lol
IT WAS NOT CARLTON’S FAULT THAT ITV STOPPED HAVING REGIONAL NETWORKS, IT WAS THE BROADCASTING ACT OF 1990, WHICH ALLOWED TAKEOVERS WITHIN THE ITV NETWORK

Is anyone able to pinpoint the music used in the Central-designed idents? I think the music sounds like it belongs in a movie but I couldn't really find info on the music. If I could get my hands on a clean copy of the music that would be nice.

Central got a taste, and then Carlton ate them, along with westcountry and half of HTV
Although the Town Crier they used for the very first ident wasn't from London.
