Harlech Television won the ITV franchise for Wales and the West of England in the 1967 franchise round and began broadcasting early, on May 20, 1968, after Television Wales and the West (TWW) had quit in bitter circumstances in March and a temporary service, Independent Television Service for Wales and the West had been run in the meantime. The name change to HTV came with the introduction of color in 1970 when "Harlech" was deemed to be too Welsh for viewers in the England part of the region. Despite promising a fresh approach when it first came on air, the channel proved to be little different from TWW, even after all Welsh-language programming transferred to the newly-created S4C network in 1982. After suffering financial problems in the early 1990s, the company was acquired by United News and Media in 1996 and sold on to Granada in 2001 (though for competition reasons its broadcast facilities and license passed to Carlton). Subsequently, HTV lost its on-air identity on October 28, 2002, when all the ITV franchises in England and Wales adopted a single "ITV1" brand, and in 2006, the HTV name disappeared altogether, when the company was renamed ITV Wales & West. ITV Wales & West was the Independent Television franchise area in the United Kingdom until 31 December 2013, licensed to a broadcaster by the regulator Ofcom.

Can I just say I appreciate that you're one of the few logo history makers who doesn't have an unnecessarily long intro? Thank you for keeping the focus on the compilations themselves.
Thank you for your appreciation!
@@JontyMaster Is the music to the title HTV logo available to download?
@@mattk5020 i dont think so
I have a 6 second intro
Oh man as an American myself i really love the 1968 Harlech ident and it’s all thanks to Lord Harlech himself who brought this iconic ident to life
The extended Harlech theme at 2:23 is gorgeous, never heard it until now
And there’s another at 4:53
my nephew asked "what was telly like when you was my age?" and i showed him this as an example
Awesome!

2nd Meme:
4:53 when you got confusion
It was very impressive of you to find the TWW logo without the 3 boxes. Unfortunately it is actually the first TWW logo. I do admire your perseverance as another man somewhat dedicated to idents, Adam Martyn, could not find that 1st TWW logo yet you did. Well done, sir, and good luck.
12:07 It's The Song From Disney's Beauty And The Beast (1991 Film). Thanks Mate. X❤
As I grew up in Dublin we had one Irish channel until, we eventually got UK channels in the early 70's by cable. The only ITV channel we received was UTV from Ulster. However, depending on the atmospheric conditions during the summer, we occasionally received HTV. It came and went but I loved the logo and the music associated with the ident and was always disappointed when summer was over and we no longer received HTV, reverting to UTV, which, in fairness was a great channel. Thank you for putting this selection of HTV idents together!
8:46 Funny videotape opening!
Some one ruined a cristmas party and made this HVT
Thank you for all your upline ads it kust takes ao much timd ro do each one. I for one am so greatful for you doing the videos.
When we first got British channels where I was in Ireland in 1988 the itv area we got was HTV Wales but when got a lidl box late 2000's it changed to Lindon area. When we got lg tv with freesat in it about 2019 in Ireland we got itv1 with London news area. I loved the htv wales logo music in late 80's, early 90's.
0:29 when people were farming someone was in a sugar rush and messed up the logo its now WTW
Lockdown means more logo time - more time for me to watch some more.
Also, you should do your own logo in the style of the TSW “screen warp”
4:14 Robin of Sherwood!
8:46 Apparently someone got way too Drunk at the Christmas party and messed up the logo. Instead of HTV, its HVT.
12:09 the 5th logo is cold and sad.
This was used for april fools and xmas
Redifusion got too drunk and swaped the words
While thames was putting on a show that they made
The family of tww decorated the xmas tree with ortaments of htv
Meridian reminds me a lot of Wolfychu, because she was born in that region! ✌✌😁🥰
Although I grew up in Bury St. Edmunds (so Anglia region), I always loved the Southern (equated in my mind to “How”), HTV (Robin of Sherwood) and ATV (... Crossroads) idents...
I grew up in the Thames region, so if I ever saw HTV, the Anglia Knight, or the TSW ‘green egg’ logo, it meant I was on holiday 😂.
It’s amazing how something as simple as a tv ident, can envoke such memories.
Agreed, Matt and stevealex! It is amazing how a television ident can bring back fond memories of being a kid with your eyeballs glued to the box.
As a teenager from New Zealand, the ITV franchise has some of the best idents out there, in my opinion.
@@JontyMasterahh I didn’t realise you were from NZ! Did you ever get any of the U.K. idents over there, attached to U.K. programming?
8:46 I love watching HVT
The Harlech ident from 1968 looks like a recreation because of how advanced it is
It truly was advanced back in the day, wasn't it?
Amazing isnt it that on all tv idents the 70s - early 80s always seemed the best including HTVs brilliant jingle from 70- 86
Is it me, or does the song at 0:28 sound like The Ash Grove? I sang this song in my local choir and I seem to recognise it straightaway
For me, it doesn't really sound like it. It's a relaxing song.
It is indeed The Ash Grove (or Llwyn Onn in Welsh).
It is The Ash Grove....well spotted.......
Huh. So it is. Nice! :-D
I would listen to this at my bedtime
Thank goodness I did not miss the premiere
And I saw Michael Rosen at the end of the video
34:11 EARAPE TIME
Bomb in the toilet:
I like the short jaunty Young Kingdom over the Harlech logo and the extended Waterfall jingle
My favorite idents from HTV are the 1970, 1987, 1993, 1995, and 2001 idents! What are your favorite idents from HTV?
1968, 1970, 1987, 1989, 1993, 1995 and 2001.
My favourite ident from Harlech TV would be the 1987 ident, as the graphics and animation are pretty good for the time, similar to the WTTW Chicago ident of the same year.
*But my least favourite ident would probably be the 1969 ident, as not only the animation is cheesy, but also, the pattern could give people **_headaches_** when they see it!*
@@ManF3 I agree with you on the 1987 ident! Brilliant CGI! However, I think the 1968 ident has impressive animation for its time, but yes, it could give some people headaches.
All
All.
Thanks Boyo !
13:44 One great Intro!
As a mexican the one that i remember and gives me the full nostalgia is the 80's one, the one played before the great show robin of sheerwood
3:26 This one is fake, it’s been proven that it’s a mock
I like The GCI HTV logo 1987 to 1989, and the theme song for 1987 is great .👍
CCG88 film theme song for 2018, That theme song from 1995 to 1999 HTV theme song. 🎵 🇬🇧 🥰
I imagine that the endcap at 6:26 is from a Welsh-language programme - 'cyf' is short for 'cyfyngedig', i.e. 'limited'.
It reminds me of 1999 Carlton ident😅
1:48 why is waving
Because its a old tv and It was wavy and shaky screen wont work anymore
Hi! And welcome to another Episode of Logo History about Bri'sh!
8:46 is this a parody or htv clones?
fun fact: is a clone because say Dyna'r cyfan am y 105' 60/2272 nesa'" that another language,is a clone
At Christmas the ITV companies would produce funny tapes consisting of outtakes and parodies of their programmes - for internal viewing only. This would have been from HTV's 1987 offering.
The 'another language' is Welsh, and translates as "That's all from the 105' / 60/2272 next". Unfortunately I don't understand the significance of the numbers.
Do you get HTV if the viewers lived in Minehead Somerset
No I think that was TSW
probably possible to receive both
I Missed TWW Logo,
3:45 Celabrætion
There's some Koala puppets.
I missed the premiere but that's pretty big!
Same coz nothing came out of my recommendations!

My HTV logo evolution will not include TWW
You do logo evolutions? Nice!
@@JontyMaster Yep.
Why did the 1987 logo dissolve in 1989?
In 1989 a different look to the ITV idents were created, called the “ Generic “ ident. Some regions accepted it, including Harlech ( HTV ) whilst others said sod off to it ( TVS, TSW, Anglia and Granada, Ulster ) Scottish ( now STV and the only region that’s not owned by the merged Granada/ Carlton company, ITV plc) used it for only 3 months. The only region to use it the longest was Grampian, which used it until 1998 then it was bought out by Scottish.
Do you have a compilation of early BBC Local Radio idents??
2003-2004
You’ve missed a musical variant from the fifth logo.

Yep.

It was actually taken from an HTV Christmas tape in the 1980s. It's a real parody-ish variant.
