Anglia Television was the ITV franchise holder for the East of England which first aired on 27 October 1959. It was the eleventh ITA station to go on air. It lost its on-air identity on 27 October 2002 (now known as ITV at all times). In 2006, ITV plc swapped subsidiaries, which involved renaming Anglia Television Limited as ITV Broadcasting Limited and vice versa. However, due to Ofcom licensing regulation, the new Anglia Television Limited could not take up the franchise, which meant that the East Anglia franchise was effectively transferred to ITV Broadcasting Limited. All other franchises then owned by ITV plc were transferred to ITV Broadcasting Limited in December 2008. Thus, technically the former Anglia Television Limited (as ITV Broadcasting Limited) now holds all eleven regional ITV licenses in England, Wales, and southern Scotland; the other three ITV plc-owned licensees, Channel Television Limited, ITV Breakfast Broadcasting Limited, and UTV Limited, were acquired after 2008.
My next logo history will be on Group W Productions.
Always loved the Anglia knight & the 10 min Anglia TV start up. Takes me right back to junior school in Norfolk waiting for my favourite ITA schools programne to start in 1970 "How We Used to Live"which was produced by Yorkshire TV I recall.
Mjnd you loved the flying Anglia triangles shown very briefly at 10.30 which were shown during the adverts. So cool!
This is my regional tv station living in North Hertfordshire I was glad to see the back of the Anglia tv Knight in 1988, it was beginning to look outdated, The 1988 Anglia tv triangle flag was my favourite, I Even bought the Anglia tv 40th anniversary book in 1999, Still have it.
They had a 40th-anniversary book? Nice! I did some research and it's entitled "A Knight on the Box". The 1988 is my favorite too.
@@JontyMaster I would totally travel to East Anglia which is in the East Of England
I tell have that book too scott
Same, I live in Cambridgeshire, and I believe they had an office in Cambridge (which is where I live).
My favorite [Anglia Television] Logo is the Early Ones
Controversial opinion: 1988-1999 was not only the best Anglia ident, but one of the best ITV idents.
Martin Lambie-Nairn was a design genius.
He was a legend!
They were good but nothing matches the mid to late 90s LWT idents
It was certainly a step change from what had gone before.
@@mattwebb6056Or Even The Central Cake Or Channel 4 Blocks!
But I Still Miss Him.
That rendition of Handel's Water Music. Fantastic. Great stuff.
6:02 I respect this one, The start of it's beautiful music.
I can't believe this 1988 logo lasted until '99. Was my favorite logo all the time.
I also love the 1988 logo! The full theme is even my end credits for my recent logo histories, because I love the United Kingdom!
@@JontyMasterI Decided To Block Denison TV Channel.
The almighty knight and his trusty horse are here to save the princess from the mighty dragon.

@@manuabousaid5683 Of course
Best ident ever
After Granada, Anglia must have been the greatest channel for stamina. It was around long before most others but still kept it's franchise throughout and was a successful programme exporter to other companies with programmes like Sale of the Century and Survival occupying prime time all-network slots.
Good one, Jonty. I also remember seeing the idents on a TR3X ident history. Speaking of that, TR3X also did an ident history of Anglia, which was one year ago.
I remember seeing that when I was 12 years old!
Ah
Guys, what's your favourite ident from a British television company? My favourite ident is BBC Two from 1991.
@@JontyMaster How old are you?
@@JontyMaster The triangle animated flags were 1988-1999
ITV Anglia, previously known as Anglia Television, is the ITV franchise holder for the East of England. The station is based at Anglia House in Norwich, with regional news bureaux in Cambridge and Northampton. ITV Anglia is owned and operated by ITV plc under the licence name of ITV Broadcasting Limited.
On the Angila flag logo, You can see the Triforce from The Legend of Zelda.
True.
And Calyrex (Pokemon) Also, you can search on google and analyst it.
I know!
4:12 Clock says 10:10
Announcer: It is 10 o clock
BRUH 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
5:52 Sounds like something straight from The Legend of Zelda.
even the triforce on the flag.
@@GigaJinGaming3711 yeah.
When I think of Anglia, I always think about "Tales Of The Unexpected".
Anglia will always be my favourite region as I live in that region and is always gonna have the best tv memories of continuity and news
Shame the knight didn't make to the CGI era. So much they could have done with it.
"Tonight pissed from Norwich".
5:51 Windy passage ident
That's my childhood right there. The 88 logo took 15 state-of-the-art IBM supercomputers to render... probably.
Had to look at this because people on Twitter have been comparing the sleeve artwork of Beyonce's 'Renaissance' to the Anglia logo!
Anglia always was a stuffy channel. I was fortunate to be able to get Thames/LWT/Carlton where I was. Certainly the news was more interesting. Watching a report about murder in the capital was way more interesting than someone accidentally driving his tractor into a ditch in Suffolk.
"From Norwich, the quiz of the week!"
13:30 ITV Anglia Ident
It would have been funny to have an announcer say: This is Anglia, television for Anglia! 😂

Funny how some just evoke such nostalgia
Says everything about the corporate mindset that they think the stupid 80s CGI flag and dreary musical sting is more memorable and distinctive than the knight and the Water Music.

@pomerakchildSealand?
Who is that supposed to be on the back of the horse?
Good question...I'm not sure...
I think it’s not supposed to be any person. Just a generic knight.
Its a trophy commisioned by William III for the Falcon club, based on King Richard 1st.

No, because after doing extensive research on Wikipedia, the ‘Anglia Knight’ was actually based off and was modelled on the statue of ‘Richard, Coeur de Lion’, ‘King Richard I The Lionheart of England’ from outside the Palace of Westminster in London, England, but it was intended to represent Prince Edward Of Woodstock, also formally known as ‘Edward The Black Prince’ who was the eldest son and heir apparent of ‘King Edward III of England’ back in the 13th Century.
Anglia was born at 1959.
