I lost a lot of weight just by doing planks, push-ups, sit-ups, squats and a couple of cardio hitting a heavy bag. I watched what kind of food I was eating, stopped drinking soda. People think that you have to do all these crazy exercises using a lot of weights, crazy diets, work out all day. All you have to do is get up that chair/couch and start doing simple stuff like planks.
Congrats! Keep it up. Be careful doing too many sit-ups as this might hurt your back at some point. There certainly are better exercises for the abs, e.g. bicycle crunches.
@@derstolperjochen1719 what do you think of standing ab excercises? they don't work? i can't do sit-ups at all, i have back pain lol
@@gc0009 Just wanted to warn the other writer (UselessInnovations) about doing too many sit-ups and then starting to get back pain. There are great abdominal workouts where you do not have to be on the floor and do crunches. One of the best is using a bar . Then work the abs and the lower body while hanging on the bar
@@derstolperjochen1719 Agreed. Sit ups can be dangerous, and for the most part, they do more harm than good. There are way better ab exercises out there that I think they should try.

Just realizing now that calisthenics is exactly what I want to go forward with. I started headstands around 2 years ago just for the fact that I wanted to do it and I fell in love with the progression and how it makes me feel about myself. I’m going to binge your videos 😂
That's exactly what brought me to do sports now so often: I want to become stronger, I want to do proper push ups, pull ups. I want to learn a hand stand. You are so insperational and I hope I will get almost there where you are now if I keep trying. Thank you!

me too! i'v been working out for a month (isometric workouts to improve my strengh) and i can't do it even in my knees, but i will not give up u.u

I really felt it when you said that once you achieve a specific movement, you just keep going. When I was in school, I couldn't do a push up or even a knee push up. It felt impossible. I started with wall push ups, then moved to knee push ups, then tried a full push up after I could do about ten or fifteen knee push ups. I did it, and now I can do six full push ups with proper form. :)
3 weeks Into a more fitness oriented lifestyle and have been intentionally trying to focus on the enjoyment aspect rather than aesthetics- love this video and it was so nice to see that this mindset can go far
I have degenerative disc disease, a herniated disk in my lower back, and I can't feel most of my left leg. All of those things came on kind of suddenly, and I gained a ton of weight. I hated feeling defeated, so I decided to take personal training and nutrition certification courses to change my body and overcome its limitations and pains. One day I hope to be able to help other people overcome the same types of feelings. You should never have to feel trapped in your own body, and you shouldn't have to feel like gaining that freedom is a chore. Your video was very inspiring, and I hope you a speedy recovery!
I also have DDD and a weak lower back. Were you able to help alleviate that with exercise and calisthenics?
HI. I can`t tell if you managed to heal yourself or not, but I would highly recommend a book from Thomas Hanna called Somatics. It`s proven to cure herniated disks and all kinds of other injuries and it changed my life. Hope it helps.

Hello Lucy .. There is an old saying " when the student is ready the Teacher will appear " .. Long story short -ened I was once a runner & I used to run around the fields & woodland as a growing boy . Years went by & at age 20 I became by Default a reluctant Swimming teacher . This changed my life . 5 years later I was easily able to cycle 22 miles b4 breakfast swim a mile or two over the course of a Day & would rather run 2 or 3 miles & then grab a sandwich .. The story of where it all went wrong LOL .. Anyway at 60 partly disabled & not working I bought a bycycle ( too big for me & 1st time I had cycled in 30 years ) but in the year B4 covid I gradually built up to 20k on a flat cycle track & my useless left leg which had in the early days just been going round as my right leg did the work .. But I was happier again & I too am interested in photography .. But then Covid & lockdown etc .. & it seemed like one injury after another .. But Last week I bought a skipping rope & I decided ( I also have a yoga mat ) that whatever success & no matter how long it took I was going to get fitter again . I have a positive outlook & I am happy I found your channel & content . Inspiration .. Thanks .. Please do not think I am looking for a chat back . I just wanted to say Hello & thanks . Stay safe & big love to you & all of your loved ones etc . I will not bother explaining my spinal injuries but even although it is a long road ahead I am lucky that I live in a place where there are forest walks & cycle tracks so the Spring is here & I know to take it easy to begin . I didn't realize until today that I used to do calisthenics A LOT. I've always been able to do chin-ups and swing myself around. Can't do it now because I'm pregnant, but before now. Just always thought it was fun.
I think that is sthe healthiest video I have ever seen when it comes to exercise and fitness. It is quite helpful! I wish more people talked about the passion behind moving and going by intuition rather than obsessing with "hacks", diets, programs etc. Thank you!

It's awesome that you put the joy of just moving at the center of your story. That's what exercise should be! Just spending time with your body, doing fun things. We really forget that in all this 'wellness culture' where being healthy seems to be more and more another thing on your todo list instead of something you do for the joy of it. Like a child would, just jumping and climbing and hanging. I love that so much, that you seem to bring that back into the picture.

I’m just getting into Calisthenics because I want to be able to do many different handstands and be able to do pull-ups. I’m strong but want to get stronger and love moving my body but also have fun with it. You have inspired me to do calisthenics and I can’t wait for what I can accomplish.

It's amazing the progress with your handstands. Last time I did a handstand was as a teenager back in the 80s.

How have I just found you?? This is the inspiration I needed right here!! I’ve been with chronic pain from a severe herniated disc and sciatica, needing ridiculous amounts of pain relief and appointment with spinal specialist, urgent referrals to both spinal surgeon and pain clinic 🤦🏻♀️😞 because they are worried about the amount of pain relief I’m having to take. My outer left leg is numb also.
I just want my life back. Since June 2021 it has been a pretty miserable existence because of how the pain restricts almost every aspect of your life.
Now Jan 2023 I am still quite uncomfortable and pain meds but I really am starting to get my mojo back, feeling motivated to get back in shape. I love this community and have binged watched so many videos the last couple of days and I now feel excited at the thought of progression.
I am so humbled by this video, there’s no fakeness, it truly shows your passion for what you do and I admire that fact.

Got your ebook, pull-up bar and hubby built me a workout room in our basement. Ordering the foam flooring today. I used to be able to do a walking handstand and front and back handspring. I'm 49 now, so I'll be happy with just a handstand and pull-up. 😁

I just started calisthenics at a gym totally dedicated to it. I can't do a single pull-up without the help of the trainer and I feel a little bad bc he has to help me all the time but by no means I feel like quiting like I thought I would. The community is amazing, I don't feel weird for not being as good as all of those people are, no one judges and everybody just wants the others to get better and better 😊😊 I always wanted to find a sport I'd love and I'm starting to feel like I finally did 🥰

Thanks for a great story and journey!! For me this same narrative repeated over a lifetime--like bee that bites your bottom and drives you, I never followed a regimen and just had fun "falling and failing" unafraid of looking foolish, constantly exploring along the way. Nailing that "boss whatever" and at present age 62, I morphed from gym rat to tennis, marathoning, Yoga, hand balancing and my current, Aerial Hoop obsessions--they each started with some incidental inspiration and or an inner mantra to find the shape or strength in my body but also purpose and mindfulness of the heart--the hardest muscle of all to train.
That is probably the most beautiful, authentic & honest video (about working out) I have seen for such a long while! Thanks so much Lucy for being so open & motivating. Your humble & cheerful attitude is amazing! I guess I gonna start my calisthenics way now :D

I started training my pullups on my bathroom door, every time I past it, I hung for a minute or a few scapula pumps. 6 months, I can now rep full pull ups but also pullover, pike, split and straddle mount on a bar. Training one arm hangs on door now.
You are an inspiration Lucy - I just started hanging on the bar which I had never done before as I bought it for my kids to hang on. LIttle did I know I would start using it too :)

After many failed attempts of sticking to a workout routine, I finally decided to make a lifestyle change and simply enjoy moving. In the past 2 months, I became so frustrated and overwhelmed with all the fitness advice on RUclips. Your video has renewed my motivation and made me realize to take it one step at a time. I became quite active during lockdown and noticed that I had gained muscle and weight and i loved it (im still a beginner tho). Online class started and I'm completely inactive. I also lost 5 kg which I assume to be muscle weight? I am so inspired to start moving again. I will be patient with my body and gradually build up the intensity of my work out. This was so inspiring thank you so much

I used to have a pull up bar in the house. We remodeled, it's gone. I miss it. Hanging is a great shoulder exercises itself.

I love that the journey started with "I want to be able to do _____". Not "I want to look like this or that", but a desire to be able to do something, and with that came an enjoyment of what you were learning and training for.

Love this and I totally agree. I’m on my fitness journey too and find myself trying different things. I’m just having fun and the fat is melting off. Calisthenics is my goal too. Nothing like being outside and trying different things using what’s there.

Hey! Stareted doing some calistenics move couple months ago and lately i feel like i'm not getting any results and not getting any stronger.
I also noticed how it's a male dominated field and i always feel very anxious and shy barely doing pull ups around super strong guys. I feel like they judge me for being so weak but you really motivated me to stay strong and just do my thing and have fun!
I know how daunting it can be doing something that is so male dominated but I have found them to always be so supportive and helpful (they know how hard cali is at all levels and trust me there will always be things they are working on too)! Definitely stay strong and have fun! You've got this xxxx
Don't be shy doing pull-ups around guys. We are happy and supportive if we see girl doing calisthenics because it's so rare.
My wife does Cali with me and has way better core and leg strength, now while she aims to catch me on pull ups I’m aiming to catch up my core and legs. Everyone has their weak areas don’t be disheartened, keep plugging away and you’ll get it.

I have started teaching myself the different callisthenics skills about a month ago and bought myself some gloves and a pull up bar to practice - beginning this journey is challenging, it doesn’t seem like I could go anywhere with my weak arms and extra fat on my body. wow, at first i wanted to have a flexible body, then just being able to pull a push-up, then being good at doing a headstand and now i do want to be good at calisthenics! it's inspiring seeing your persistent and patient efforts how it paid of at the end, but what's more inspiring is your whole journey to it. i also want to become a good calisthenic, although it is going to be a long journey and I'm pretty excited for it! can't wait to see my progress in the coming years~

For my starting journey as I'm still in the beginning, I'm alternating between inverted rows on the trx machine and heavily assisted pull ups with the weights. My goal is to do one full unassisted pull up before the end of the year.
I just found you and bought your beginner ebook and am on workout 2 and loving it! I finally told myself I need to get back into shape and lose this 90lbs and I'm glad I found you when I did!
Hanging from a bar was the only relief I could get from sciatica. I sure hope you get better. I had surgery which helped but the sciatica took a few years to settle and I still fear lifting anything more than 30kg. Good luck and keep inspiring.

Im really glad i came across this video. Today was my first day of trying Calisthenics and i had such mixed feelings. And to be honest it made me really depressed. I couldn’t even enjoy my daily spa routine. I was so worried of developing a Masculine Body i started to get discouraged. Especially since I’ve been working so hard to heal and develop my Sacred Feminine energy within myself. But after seeing your body transformation I have hope. I really want to look lean but muscular. But I dont want to look bulky like a man. I’m going to stay committed and see what happens 🙏🏼🕊☀️🌕✨

Inspiring! I've always loved fitness and have worked out in different ways (but so far haven't reached an ultimate fitness level, not even close) and I have recently decided to take a personal trainer course to become a fitness coach, but I do have self doubt, mostly due to thinking a fitness coach should be a certain way (aka am I good enough? Fit enough? Do I have enough knowledge?) and train a certain way (weights, on a schedule, and so on), but this video opened me up to see new possibilities. It reassured me. I just have to find my own style and be confident about it, not try to be like "everyone else" or do what they do, whether it's in fitness or life. As long as it's healthy. 🙂

I used to enjoy sports and every kind of body movement. It was my dream. My hobby. My life. I did gymnastics, football, kickboxing... so like every day I was doing sports. One time 2-3 years ago, I got into a kind of depression in my last years of school, where I lost all fun at everything, and at some point, I didn't even want to do sports anymore and of course, getting every day worse, didn't help. Seeing your video gave me some tips on how I could get that fun back and showed me why I liked it so much. It's being able to do cool things for me. I still struggle sometimes at having fun doing silly things. so thanks for showing me how you started. Maybe I can start from the beginning too. Step by step :)
This was great to watch and really encouraging. I wouldn't say I'm the fittest I could be but I had quite a journey myself. I was always pretty growing up but during high school, I took JROTC and also ended up taking more physical education classes as electives in later years. I did a lot of body weight exercises as well as weights. As a junior or senior, that was the fittest I have ever been most likely. When I went to college, I basically just stopped it all which was the dumbest idea ever.
Anyway, I eventually started getting back in to working out and trying pull ups. I remember pulling a muscle on the first try after years and had to wait to attempt to do another. It was really embarrassing because I could do 10+ in high school. I was do pull ups almost every day since we had a bar in the garage. I had to work at small exercises, hanging, jumping pull ups, holding and slowly going down, using a chair until I could finally do another chin up. Now, I try to do at least one a day and stretch or do some kind of exercise each day. I'm not "in shape" or anything but I can do normal things with no risk of hurting myself! LOL Anyway, encouraging word to anyone out there, no matter where you are at on your journey, set a goal and slowly work toward it! No shame in doing the easiest exercise. It is all about getting those muscles to work a bit and build them over time.

I tell you, I actually trust you Lucy on this, ive started youre backwards push up practice, o doing the movement in reverse to start with and im noticing the difference in strength so quickly. "021 IS going to be the year i get chin ups under my hat x
my eldest son just does pull ups off the door frame, hed done this since he was quite young, the strentgh in his fingers us beyond my comprehension , hes not a small lad either lol
I think im going to get a pull up bar, i have been hanging of odd bars in different parks but,, time to ramp this up i think

I found your channel in my search to learn how to do one full push up, it took me almost 3 month and now I can only do 2 full push ups at a time but it was amazing to do it. It's interesting how most people say that you eventually have to add some weight or at least resistance to gain strength and muscle, but look at this, you're amazing 😍 I always felt unmotivated when I heard that and didn't think it's even worth it to exercise if my muscles won't change. I have lower back pain because of years of inactivity even though I'm young, and I need to strengthen my body, I think this is the way to go, wish me luck 😬
The people that say you eventually have to add weight to a calisthenics movement to gain strength and muscle don't really understand calisthenics well enough...
That's actually the best way when I was at my fitest I was doing tae kwon do and it transformed my body as a side effect. And now I'm watching your videos not for image but because seeing what you can do with your body is intriguing.... Thank you very much for sharing your journey

I just got into strength training like last months and I love it. I didn’t even know what calisthenics was until a few weeks ago and I’m gonna incorporate some into my workouts! Once I finish this video I’m gonna do some push-ups and handstands!!
