Nice comparison. Maybe would have been better to try on the POD Express crunch amp setting since it’s supposed to be like a Friedman? IRX won here for me. Also - have you tried changing the cab for the different amp models in POD Express?
Thanks David! I was using the crunch setting on the POD the photo on screen wasn’t of the actual pedal. I have tried the different amps and speaker options and they’re all pretty good. Overall it’s a great product in my opinion especially for the price!
For all intents and purposes, identical. Do they sound identical head to head? No, but really close. More importantly, though, if a day from now you were handed one to play blindfolded, I doubt many could tell whether it was the Friedman unit or the Pod. Maybe there's a usability difference, which does matter. But sound wise modeling is effectively equal to tube amps.
Yeah that’s probably it. I was reading over the manual and I didn’t see clarification on which mic they used, but also I’m kinda blind so I might have just overlooked it 😂
That weird overtone sound you're hearing, anytime I've tried any line 6 products it has that weird springy reverb type sound even if all the effects are turned completely off, you still hear it.
Great video, thank you very much!! To me, the Ir-x still sounds a tiny bit better, but the Pod Express sounds really great. And both units are very close indeed. Thanks again and all the best!!
No I don’t believe so. It’s one of those things you kind of get used to. It was just apparent and worth noting when directly A/Bing it with the IR-X. However, I think because of the latency, it inspired me to play in different ways.
In a recorded mix you’d never tell them apart. In a live gig setting it would be interesting to see if the Pod would get lost in the chaos keeping up with a drummer and bass player. I sometimes find such units sound great at home but at gig volume thru a PA, just don’t really cut it.
Definitely! I find the POD misses a bit of weight and power. Sounds great but like you said I think live it would be a little weak and get lost in the mix “of course depending on the exact live context”
I preferred the IR-X, sounded more natural, like it breathed more. The Pod Express was almost harsh sounding. That said, I feel like both sound incredible. You really can't go wrong with either. Great demo!
Thanks Casey! Both are great products and what you get out of the line6 for the price is pretty outstanding. But the IR-X definitely has a smoother more natural sound. Thanks for watching!
I hope you enjoyed this video! Which Friedman sound did you prefer? IR-X or POD Express
Both excellent. POD sounds more classic rock to me, and Friedman more like more polished 90s record. The Friedman sounds SWEET when played lightly.
Great video dude! Both sound pretty dang good to me,. Been enjoying your content a lot, always killer playing
Thanks dude! I’m really impressed with both. It’s crazy how many great direct guitar amp options there are now days.

Seems like a perfect solution for our rehersals and my acoustic gigs. Ordering now 🤟🏻🤟🏻
Friedman sounds better, BUT that Pod sounds great, especially for the price.

Definitely! Modeling has come a long ways and it’s very impressive. I’m excited to see what the future brings with guitar amp modeling products
If you recorded the same riff twice and changed the device for each take on the fly can we hear if there you is difference 😅
IR-X has a fuller sound. Most likely the dual mic’d IR you mentioned vs. the pod which is likely a single mic’d IR.
Yeah that’s probably it. I was reading over the manual and I didn’t see clarification on which mic they used, but also I’m kinda blind so I might have just overlooked it 😂
IR-X sounded like an Amp. No comparison. The POD is definitely impressive for what it is though.
Thanks for watching!
Question: can you program a clean tone on say footswitch one and a overdriven amp tone to footswitch 2?

Thanks for watching! I’m glad you enjoyed the video. 🤘
Nice job. Great comparison. The Line 6 really hung with the IR-X.
Good on you with the UFO live album!!! Are you going straight into an interface here?
But you get effects with the pod express. I bet they will make a bigger version soon.
Definitely! They do already have a bigger version Line 6 POD Go
Does the lantency interfere with your faster runs?
No I don’t believe so. It’s one of those things you kind of get used to. It was just apparent and worth noting when directly A/Bing it with the IR-X. However, I think because of the latency, it inspired me to play in different ways.
That will be a good series for you to develop on how it changes your instinctive decision making within the riffs you play.
I think I like the ir x more, but wondering how this compares to a helix. 🤔
Wow, it's crazy how close the line 6 sounds to the Friedman
1:54 in and i am like Friedman YES...line 6 HELL NO
good job!
