Annalena Baerbock (German Minister of Foreign affairs) met with Mélanie Joly (Canadian Minister of Foreign Affairs) in downtown Montreal on August 3rd 2022, to discuss and strengthen our partnership, and to discuss current problems including the Russian invasion of Ukraine. This is Minister Baerbock’s first official trip to Canada.
Germany and Canada are very close allies, and are both part of NATO and the G7.
The visit comes only weeks after Canada sent back a turbine to Germany for the Nord-Stream 1 Pipeline with bring natural gas from Russia to Germany. The turbine was being repaired in Montreal, and created controversy when it was sent back despite Canada's sanctions.
Many claims it financially aids Russia's war against Ukraine.
The 2 ministers talked about Ukraine, and how the war is creating food insecurities, they will also be talking about international peace and
democracy as well as climate change.

Lucky shot, this (16+02) will be one of the last flights of this A340 (A340-313 VIP), as the successor (A350-900) is still in commissioning. 3 new A350-900 government planes (10+01, 10+02, 10+03) will replace the A340´s.
