Would it be possible to see a video of your mixing process? I mean, if you could let us see how you treat all the tracks in your DAW with both plugins and analog gear? That would be extremely helpful and valuable. Cheers!
Gregory has a great series that’s super inexpensive called “Riding the Mix Buss,” where he does a deep dive into a mix. Pretty damn cool. My mix style is way different but I love Gregory’s taste and his shit sounds tiiiiiight. I’ve regularly gone back and checked that series out. I had a section of a song that needed some really 70s sounding drums, and those techniques came in handy. I’d love to record a band that takes some influence from the 70s, whether it be something dreamy like this, or even a retro prog band, but most of my clients are punk and metal musicians or modern prog, so it’s unlikely any time soon.
Is it possible to discuss getting that very close sound? I've tried using reverb with very 'small' settings but either the sound is 'dead' or borderline metallic when I play around with very short delay.
I absolutely love this. The silky vocals. Everything is so clear. The drums have that perfect mid range knock to it. The open hat to the left is so buttery and soft. The electric piano is so nice.
I LOVE that you use just a single hit on the ride cymbal, and you let it ring, sustain, and die away. Rarely do you get to hear just 1 amazing ping on the ride like that! Also great dynamic range. I see my output meters using their full swing!... ie. no volume reduction by RUclips. Kudos for that.
@@TheHouseofKushTV That, & the perfection of the cymbal sizzle in the mix from ~ 3:56-4:47, the end (punctuated by a single distinct & decaying ride hit) of which serves to pull the listener in close like a warm audio hug. Thank you, Mix Jesus :)
As a fan of Royksopp but also of trip hop, I appreciate quiet songs. You master the down tempo, the groove drum part as much as we could expect with you. It reminds me of our French band AIR too...
Yeah, it is like AIR. Gregory, the production, your mix of this, is fuckn beautiful, and the way you and Sarah's voices segue into one another is angelic.
This is the first actual piece i hear from you. And i can say this sound is fitting your personality very well. So chill and clear defined. Im really loving it. And that sweet analog flavor of the production is like the cherry on the top that rounds the image. Great work. Looking forward hearing more from you!
YES!!! i've been waiting for this tune since the drum compression video! i watch that video over and over just cause the drums groove so hard. u r that cat! thanks for all of this.
i'm curious, how much of that snare tone is the snare itself and how much is the production? that buzzy/gritty/pffft snare sound is something i've always chased, and i used to jump thru hoops going after it with tape and compression, but now i have a snare that just sounds like that at the mic and it's a lot easier :) just curious how you got there.
@@zs5948 in one of his videos he shows how he mics his drum and he uses a side mic in the snare bottom to get that crunchy snare tone. Hope my recall is acurate. Look up for that video, is great. Cheers!
Gregory...dude that's such a lovely track, melodic and shimmering with vibe. I'm old enough to remember when such a track would be played often on the radio...where it belongs. Awesome 😊
Ok, I need to make some kind of Freedom Of Information Request or something to discover who is playing bass on this track?? I’m not joking when I say this is one of the most amazingly crafted bass tracks I’ve ever heard in my life! And it is the absolute foundation of this absolute masterpiece of a song. Gregory, your attention to detail, your ability to look past what your eyes tell you and really focus on what the sound is telling you is astounding. I aspire to reach the sonic level that you have attained one day. Commercial success means nothing to me. You make music for people who appreciate the art of music. That audience is a little smaller than mainstream and that is ok. You affect change in people and I just want to thank you for your contribution and dedication to the craft.
Love to see how you got vocals wide & present. Also how you placed the flute perfectly. Dude dry saturated drums and wide vocals r my holy grail. Pls deep dive scuba Steve.
Yep, you're one hell of a musician.

Wow! So clear, but not sharp. So warm, but not boomy. Full of space, but still tight. just perfect.. fell in love
Couldn’t get this riff out of my head from the compressor tutorial. Hearing it complete makes it even better
The way the vocals sit in the mix!! OMG my face's melting!
This song and the production create a very good vibe. I like it. So relaxed.
Greg got his groove on! Nice...
The perfect 70's sound in 2022.... always amazed. You are a north-star for luscious sound!
As a bass player I can only say the buttery presence of the bass guitar made me smile.
The drums cut right through . That hi hat really changed the mood . Love it
that chorus hits hard. those harmonies are amazing.
Mate, fair play, those vocals are insane!
I recognize that turnaround from one of your deep dive drum compression videos!
Listening to this is like the audiophonic interpretation of how I perceive your personality.
Very cool. I love the very dry, very close vocals in the verse
Is it possible to discuss getting that very close sound? I've tried using reverb with very 'small' settings but either the sound is 'dead' or borderline metallic when I play around with very short delay.
Hey! That's the compressor geeks out video song
That snare sound is what dreams are made of.
Your music is the kind of music that makes me want to make music
A "Kush After Hours" vid wherein
Sir Gregory tells tales of his musicál journey and influences would be most cool
What a f**king sound! Damn! Silky velvet sound 🔥🔥🔥
Great Smoothness, clarity, vibe, blended, contrast, mellow feel/mood, ‘nice’ groove orientation, philosophical
I absolutely love this. The silky vocals. Everything is so clear. The drums have that perfect mid range knock to it. The open hat to the left is so buttery and soft. The electric piano is so nice.
Agree, but the hi hat sounds centred. Is that not a ride in the left?
absolutely loved the vocals and class bass lines
Soft & sweet, vybing....
I like how you incorporated "Solaris". A movie I hold in high esteem.

Thanks for noticing, and for sharing an appreciation for one of my favorite things in the whole production!

That snare is HEAVY and dark. I like it for this mix. Very cool tune and mix, but you already knew that. Thanks for sharing.
Second time around. That bass line though!!!🔥🔥🔥🔥
Dude is playin like Pino
That groove is immaculate, homes.
Loving the dryness with the contrast depth of the vocals.
Oh hey I heard this before! From your “how to hear compression” video! Finally you turned it into a full song, congrats 👏
Those vocals are insane. SLD fan over here now 🤘
Love the "A Scanner Darkly" filter on Tarkovskij's "Solaris", great taste in movies!
Good one Gregory, nice „driving“ beat and groove, it’s cruisin my friend 😎
Elegant, grrreat vibe , and so goddam wellproduced.....
Zero 7 vibe, love it
Long time listener first time poster. This song really hit the groove! Perfect 70s tones and smooth !!!
what a fantastic ride that was, that song was so good, I had to go roll one and lay back and just stare off and day dream , fuckin cool
Such an aural feast - I want more!
I think it's a perfect mix. I don't normally feel like this.
That bass is hella sweet. Good stuff!
You must have watched your own compression video. Killer tune!
Loved the delay on the vocal at 3:31, really cool idea
Lovely! A vote for a deep dive from my corner! ❤️
love the vibe. You know how people say that dogs look like their "owners"? The music of Sneaky Little Devil matches its creators' vibe 100%
This is amazing. A course with stems so we could follow along would be phenomenal!
Snare Pan automation is nice. Jumping middle to right and Ride Boom.
Masterclass in painting with sound. Great tune, with musical punctuation on point!!
You have your ways with drums!

sounds great! I also love the use of Tarkovsky's Solaris... love that movie
I'm in love with that bass.
Would love to see a deep dive on the session for this. Great song :)
Echoes of One by One from The Bluestones. Beautiful.
I suspect Hammer and Novatron were getting their needles kissed on the 2 buss... This is pure silk my man. Groovy AF
Reminds me of Air and its a good thing :)
Giving me a bit of a modern riders on the storm vibe. Can't' stop listening to this track!
Love the "Through a Scanner Darkly" vibe!
This team is genius, thx for Tarkovsky and amazing music ❤️ Gregory Scott ❤️ from Russia with love
I was waiting for this Song since the Compressor Video 😅 i love it!
Everyone talking about the drums, but man that bassline slaps
I would love to see how you did this. This is really ear candy!!
Solaris! Very fitting film cuts for the song and a great production as usual.
I can speak for everyone in saying that we need a complete deep dive for this one. It's that good.
I love that look at the camera at 3:21. Neat production and artwork
Kush After Hours aesthetics are what I want for life
the definition of warmth
Drum groove/sound is amazing.
beautiful track
Me, chilling in youtube: Yep, it's a good day to be heterosexual
Gregory: *Uploads a video*
Me: GOD DAMNIT GREGORY!!
It's like, I can't relax until I get home from work and finally listen to his intros.
What is happening to me ??
That's kinda gay tho, not gonna lie 🤪
Me likey very much! Warm, mellow, and coazy. Great! I like the Solaris scenes btw. Very fitting.
The bass part. Killer.
Beautiful. The Solaris goes perfect too

There's loads more on the Sneaky Little Devil channel!
@@matthijshebly I think my favorite is Sweet Low Afterglow. I must have listened to it 100 times.
wow..... My ears have never heard dynamics like this man.
Well done!

This is excellent. Would love to see a deep dive. Great work, as always.
I wanna swim through the reverb @ 4:22, killer vibe man!
Just feed it with a delay (or vice versa) instead of a dry source, that’s what you’re hearing there, Echoboy > Goldplate 🙂

Love the song and overall feel. I, too, vote for a deep dive. Would love to see your approach to capturing the source.
Absolutely blown away by the song. A big YES to the deep dive into this particular song...
Deep dive of the mix would be amazing. Sounds great!
Smoove sounds brilliant on my phone allready.. cant wait to drop it on my speakers

So funky love the sitar!

I had this song stuck in my head for the last 4 days
I'd love to see a breakdown of any part of any of your tunes. This is real music.
Amazing production. Stumbled on your channel yesterday. I’m hooked!!!!
Tarkovsky was a genius!
Your music goes so well with his pictures.

Deep dive for sure. Ride hits are awesome.
The songwriting is also fantastic.
Greg man, this is such an affecting vibe. Timeless.
