[ONEPLUS 9 PRO REVIEW]
OnePlus. For years following its 2014 debut the name alone conjured excitement among phone fans - first for value, then for features, and more recently a kind of middle ground between the two. Unfortunately for OnePlus, the words “excitement” and “middle ground” seldom go together … so this year, the company put another name on the only part of its new phone that "sticks out."
To see whether that hump lives up to the hype of the 180-year-old brand name etched upon it, I drove 700 miles to the mountains of North Carolina so I could point the OnePlus Hasselblad … at another Hasselblad: a near-perfect replica of one of the most important cameras of all time -- the one that brought us photos from the moon. I’m MrMobile and this is the Road Trip Review for the OnePlus 9 Pro!

Surreal seeing b-roll of my city in a MrMobile episode, heh. It was awesome hanging out man -- and great video!
please tell me that you used the sd pda camera that day!
So glad to finally put a proper city to the occasional peeks we get through your old PDA cameras! Agreed man; thanks for carving out the time for coffee. Looking forward to the next one!
That was You???
It's also a nice surprise seeing you here!
Ayyy
Thanks for sharing all the photo and video samples that many other reviewers leave out. That camera system is pretty disappointing admist all that hype. For that crazy price tag, they need include a rock from the moon 🌗
🤣😂🤣
I swear, talk is cheap. It would have been better if they didn't collab with hasselblad 😂.
I love how mrmobile straight up said dont buy it and yeah i agree. OnePlus should have stuck to their 700$ tops range
I don't see why people thought it would be a good camera in the first place. Its oneplus. We are talking about here. Guess to show you how much cool advertising tricks so many consumers.
@@allenstevenson5986 well it’s also Hasselblad. Fuji makes better Medium format cameras and Fuji color science is better. Heck, Leica would have been a better collaboration
TechAltar: "Why enthusiast brands will let you down"
Video is relevant every single time a new One Plus phone drops
Oh TechAltar the timetraveler
While I like TechAltar and he makes some really good points. I'd have to disagree on this. Yes the cameras on OP phones haven't been award achieving ones, the phones were rather good for the price. Right now I'm using the OP 8T and I just am more satisfied by it in the 4 months I've had it than I've ever been in the past 6 years using Samsung Devices.
@@AndiKola Samsung has changed drastically after those 6 years m8
@@aaront.9710 the camera on my Samsung galaxy S4 doesn't look that bad. I was scrolling in my Google drive and found pics from my old Samsung. I could still zoom in really far and make out people in the background. Wasn't much detail but I could tell there was some old people and stuff in the park.
@@aaront.9710 I'm comparing them to the Samsung phones I've owned in the past 6 years which includes the S6, S7, S8, S9, S10. Finally I cave and didn't go for a Samsung S20 series but went for oneplus and it's way better then anything Samsung had to offer.
Dude the pacing and storytelling in this was phenomenal
So impressed with you and inspired by this vid!
Welcome home 😁
Thanks J! Enjoyed your camera comparison as well - surprising results in the skin smoothing, in particular. Thanks for showcasing some stuff I didn't get around to testing!

"the camera is just ok" ... considering the hype, that's pretty disappointing
Yeah. Some things can be updated with software updates but still was hoping it would live up...
Really dissapointing
Sad now i wait for Xiaomi pro or ultra or Zts s30 pro
They can shove all the fancy hardware they want into it but with how good Samsung, Apple and Googles software is, they cannot compete. Paper specs aren’t everything.
150 mil on camera r&d 😲
a drink with LGR? I want to hear the story of that one!
I swear, all of the tech RUclipsrs I watch are interconnected
I reached out to Clint to tell him I'd be in his area, and he graciously agreed to share a coffee! Been a longtime fan of his, so it was one of the highlights of the trip.
@@TheMrMobile and all we got is a single photo? when 2 big youtubers are fans of each other, and share a friendly drink is always nice! i was just wondering, as you 2 are not really the same youtube category (you dealing with new stuff mostly, and Clint dealing with older stuff than himself most of the time):D
@@TheMrMobile nice, at the beginning of your video i was like "I know that city from an LGR video. could it be..?". Great to see you met up
Timestamp?
Just saying, One person that really speaks the truth. Perfect review!!
I think almost all RUclipsrs stated that how the cameras aren't very impressive
Dave also spoke the truth... And he doesn't look impressed
Every one is saying this, they made the anticipation so high that now everyone feel meh
Oneplus camera is great but it did not live to the hype
@@lostlupical1880 They Were Marketing Too Much😂
As if this wasn’t already the best OP9 review, 9:26 just deals the deal.
*seals
Second only to the space camera, coffee with Clint was the highlight of the trip!
This mans videos are gonna be equivalent to science videos in a school in the future where touch phones will be considered old tech lol
More like a well made vintage documentary... 😁
MrMobile predicted the hype. Kudos 🔥

It's really too damn expensive for a okay especially when other Chinese brand are selling the same for less...
Yeah, agreed, for three times less money. Really wanted to like these phones, can't justify the price.
One+ is losing its soul, more and more...
I took a “bathroom break” at work to watch this video in a stall. It was definitely worth it. I should get back to work before my boss wonders what happened to me.
"Sorry, boss. Had to stay mobile."
Don't disappoint in work like OnePlus did.

Did you wash your hands?
Mr. Mobile, the man who poops while mobile
among the dozens of reviews that suddenly appeared on youtube this one is by far the greatest, you literally went to the moon and back to review the camera's haha
You know, I like MKBHD and Mrwhosetheboss. I haven't seen their videos yet, and I know I'll enjoy them. But I also know that, for the most part, they'll stay in their room talking to the camera and that's pretty much it. Michael's videos have so much more work, and so much more love put into them. Each video tells a story, with him traveling here and there and bringing some nice video footage to look at. The editing is very smooth, too. The narrating is on point.
I like other reviewers, but Michael is the only one I love.
@@manthe3711 couldn't have said it any better! Completely agree!
This is a genius way to do a product placement. You just can't skip it.
Coffee. Check.
Coffee with LGR!
This is about as uninspiring of a phone as I've seen in a long time. Looks like they're taking a step backward. Pass.
One of the original OnePlus founder left, it's basically been taken over by Oppo.
@@awdrifter3394 it has always been oppo, but since a few years they've just been leeching off of the hype they created when they started

Another sick review , the road trip review transition for cameras was phenomenal
I knew this would come the moment I saw mkbhd and mrwhosetheboss upload right after the OnePlus release video. First time I saw a premiere.
See this is how you differentiate yourself! Mr Mobile makes such unique reviews, they are a treat to watch!
Check out the unlocker as well if you want to see his inspiration for this style of videos. He's fire.

Oooh didn't expect to see Clint from LGR!
Let's get Clint and Antony from LTT to narrate some audiobooks.
You are legit a master of reviews. You have a Hunter S Thompson way of writing your stuff.
Lgr and Mr mobile hanging out, that just made my day.
Was waiting for this.Never disappointed.
I was I thought it was captain disillusion
As usual perfect and on point review. Was looking forward to your view and thankyou for the great and hard work that you put in on all of your videos!!
This Oneplus 9 has to fail to make OnePlus realize they are better as a flagship killer and not gonna be flagship. Hope they get a lesson and take a step back to make it affordable again
I have been using oneplus ever since 3t and now using 7t. Paying 200 dollars plus to hasalblad is just waste of money. I don't know why oneplus doesn't understand. Google pixel made wonderful camera even before several years with just single lens.
If oneplus wants better camera they better hire people from Google camera devision and then raise the price. As of now if I will have to buy a flagship phone I would switch back to Samsung.
I just loved the way you exposed OnePlus and hasselblad partnership. Dope review 🔥
I was pretty hyped about the hassleblad partnership. But I admit, I fell for the marketing. I figured if anyone is going to disturb the space, its OnePlus. But alas, After seeing REAL sample shots from reviews, I might as well keep my Pixel 4 and wait for the Pixel 6. OnePlus as usual is giving you 90% of "flaghship" camera. (Although I admit the ultrawide probably wont get matched by apple or google till the next next generation). As per usual OnePlus, Specs above actual results. Sell the phone on marketing and fan base first, Design second, and Results always speak for themselves which is: dont get caught up in the oneplus hype. There is hype around oneplus ever single year, and every single time I watch the reviews I am left sort of meh, like, its competitive, but I might as well wait for Apple/Google to step up their camera game.
At least those specs used to translate into actual speed. Not much of that around anymore.
@Tong Zou Zeiss have only done well with Nokia and Sony because both Nokia (had) and Sony (have) fantastic camera teams. Zeiss also probably being the only one out of Leica and Hasselblad who are really still at the forefront of their fields helped too; the other two have been riding at lot on their reputation for years now.
Damn... I hate marketing... The money wasted on the brand name could have being invested on a better camera! Shame on you 1+!
Audio is still way better than most channels... And we appreciate it!
Damn I wish I had run into in asheville, never thought mr mobile would be in my home town
Oneplus tried so hard to hyping this moonshot BS but fall shortly 🙄 the last good oneplus was the 7.
Honestly Agree. I bought a OnePlus 7 Pro last year on sale and I bought it mainly because it was the last flagship OnePlus I could buy without going broke. I still like the company but they're getting too mainstream and not taking enough risks for new innovation. This is a bit disappointing but I can't blame OnePlus for wanting to more attract everyday buyers, it's just sad to see the fun features going away
Came for the nostalgia. Subscribed because of the writing. I feel like you could narrate “How It’s Made” episodes.
One of the most honest reviews, with both positives and negatives, like it should be. After watching MKBHD and this one, the MKBHD feels "too shy" of pointing out the negatives. And not to forget the elephant in the room, the Price....
MRMOBILE IS SO UNDERRATED?? WHY? THIS IS THE BEST REVIEW OF THIS PHONE PERIOD.
Driving so far for a phone review?
That's the content that makes Mr Mobile , Mr Mobile. Impressive!
Honestly I'm spoiled by ROG Phone 5, every other phone is just slab of glass. Still So Grateful for MrMobile on his masterpiece of a review on ROG Phone 5
Too bad it bends like the iPhone 6. I'll be waiting for the ROG 6.
@@pkpnyt4711 Wanted the ROG 1, got the ROG 2(still have it, proud of this phone too), and honestly... Didn't like the ROG 3(too mainstream) nor ROG 5(jesus christ how it that phone so structurally weak?). So many things that went bad after ROG 2. No more hopes for this lineup, for me though at least.
@@pkpnyt4711 where can I get more info about this?! I'm looking to buy that device and this is a serious flaw if true.

Asheville is one of my favorite cities. Definitely worth it for anyone in the area.
Ditto. Been to the Biltmore there.
"Hasselblad" sounds like an ingredient for the Plumbus.
Expecting to be underwhelmed. I feel like Sony is the only one appealing to me these days.
Highly recommend Sony. Loving my Xperia 1 II 👍
Hurray for LGR shoutout!
On a scale of 1 to 10, this review is a OnePlus 9 (Courtesy: OnePlus) :D
so basically you gonna say this *1+ × Hassleblad* were the same flavor as Astronauts Ice Cream eh ? 10:10 (inserts smile emoji) 😃
Only guy I trust from 10yrs straight 💯💯
Me watching in 480p: This phone’s cam is nothing special
cant imagine spending 1k dollars on an unreliable brand like this. Doesn't even update their devices.
I am disappointed in OnePlus...
They don't seem to care about longevity (Hardware) and value for money any more like they did in the old days.
Almost everything got worse with every new product:
- No removable battery anymore
- No expandable storage anymore
- Notches and Punch holes
- Curved Screens
- Ever larger and more expensive devices
- No Headphone jack anymore
Every point I mentioned is valid and will be mistaken for old or unnecessary.
I guess they finally settled...
That's why I choose Sony
Michael excellent review as always with all your videos btw, I was looking forward to this Hasselblad camera review and other RUclipsrs out there are just jumping on the bandwagon of OnePlus 9 and hyping it up, we're not really getting an honest review of course, you on the other hand tell it like it is, I truly honestly take your reviews with some serious weight and others who tend to be Guru youtubers with millions of subscribers with a grain of salt.. to this day I'm baffled why you're not over 10 million subscribers there's nobody out there that reviews products as good as you and from the bottom of your heart too and that pretty much tells the story, instead of popularity and hype from other RUclipsrs with 10 million plus subscribers people shouldn't look far to get an honest review they should just really truly look at your reviews first before jumping on the bandwagon listening to others..stay safe..
at 10:52 what's that app besides the phone dialer app?
at 11:10 does anyone know please if the smallest iphone there is 12 or the 12 mini ? thanks
it feels like finally getting your video after ages. Glad to have this. Truly, among all the technology reviewers, i wait for yours.
Thank you for being you and nerding out on a replica of an iconic camera! And thank you for being true about your thoughts on this new One Plus - you called shanenigans where appropriate, while praising what deserved praise. Very nice job!
I lived in the part of WV you drove through. Pretty cool knowing you were close by!
Brilliant editing and awesome review as always!
Hi Michael, what phone did you shoot the b-roll with? many thanks
Need to get to Asheville, unfortunately was way out the way for me when I’ve been through NC. Nice review
Nice work. Great video, man
I'm curious - did you try the "Hasselblad Pro Mode" that they mentioned in the launch event? I haven't seen any of the reviewers so far use it. I think all the samples that OnePlus have shown were taken using it.
Man your videos are just awesome ❤️
Well the only review anyone need@Mr.Mobile...as always excellent and honest take man..
You're the only youtuber I've seen with this level of honesty. Nothing but respect
Since finding your channel I've long awaited this video!
Loved the review format and the intro music!
Ayyyy! Asheville, NC! I’m moving back there from Brooklyn this Summer!
Is that one of our London buses in Sunny Carolina ? Great video and thanks for the balanced review. Stay Safe.
That's so cool you went to Asheville! That's where I'm moving to in May. Can't wait!
Glad you enjoyed your time in Asheville. We love it there
Thank you for adding the captions again !
Means a lot :)
I don't know how else to say it but, this is both a review and an adventure just seeing the actual context of the drive; to review a phone & part of it's feature's origin-if you will. The commitment *and* quality is insane, bar none! Keep it going man! :)
@mrmobile great to see the Bristol Lodekka bus like the ones we used to have in the UK in the early 70s
9:44 I almost freaked out. Thought that was a notification from my phone 📱! Thanks again for the great review, Mr. Mobile 😂
Great storytelling!! Always a good touch you have with delivering the feel of device :)
i like that he’s being honest in ALL his reviews.
Salute for you sir .
This video was so different compared to the others nice job Mr mobile.
Mr.mobil, with your clean homistic and lovable review. You saved my money . And I wanna have your hairstyle too
Great real take Michael! As I thought it might be, a little short of the competition.
I just fucking love your road trip review please continue to do it
You're the best! I follow u since pocket now, and you're simply the best! Best quality videos ever!
Does the Moto Razr have issues with horizontal-clamping phone holders? I saw it was put in the cupholder in the vehicle-- that's exactly what I do with my HTC U11 because the squeeze function disagrees with most phone car mounts. I wonder if that's the case with the Razr, or it's just a rental car and you guys didn't have a phone mount handy.
Nice phone! I was waiting to see what it had to offer. I'll probably get the Pixel 6xl if they make one. Hopefully they bring the soli sensor back for gestures. I use them frequently on my 4xl! First phone in years I kept over a year
I like his videos before initial buffering is complete! A legit pro review as always 😌
oh man I missed David Cogen when D.Imel said, but first...... ''Coffee". Great review as usual.
Great review, and top tier tech journalism. Wouldn't mind the videos being a bit longer, and slowing down the pace a bit.
05:39 "so we can see some moon sh-..... some moon stuff" hahahaha nice save there, Mike.
At 5:40 the voice of David sounds in our brains as the voice of David (TheUnlockr).
Great video, double watched as always to about the distraction s of the premier live chat and liked as always.
Interesting approach for marketing is doing OnePlus, but also great device but pretty expensive for the whole package.
Great review Mr! I'm currently still on my huawei P30 pro, and really can't find any reason to switch to a newer phone! These days all manufacturers try to lure you to the "pro" model and really make the "normal/affordable" version really lacking behind in features.
Nice video! Keep it up! Need wallpaper from 2:32
All of this reminds me of Moto Z Hasselblad addon. You had a great video of that years ago.
As always Mr Mobile, your unique insight and style vastly outweigh the 'strange' VO audio quality.
Simply an amazing video , so much of knowledge and off course an indepth review and razor sharp knowledge
