I like the band ALVVAYS, and I wasn't familiar with Camera Obscura until I saw a video of ALVVAYS covering "Lloyd I'm ready to be Heartbroken". Great song, great cover. You can tell Camera Obscura really influenced ALVVAYS beautiful sound. Really glad I came across them.
Alec met Molly, and introduced her to Camera Obscura. They grooved on one particular album. He left his old band and that was the beginning of Alvvays. I read that in an interview last year. I knew that Camera Obscura was their inspiration, and it never clicked until I watched that cover of Lloyd I'm Ready to be Heartbroken last week. I started playing the RUclips videos and borrowed My Maudlin Career from the library. Now I'm hooked. This is amazing stuff. I was lucky to see Alvvays eight months into their first tour. Alvvays first album has such similar songwriting: unreturned love as a compliment to Tracyanne's "Please let me go".
They captured my heart from the first notes of My Maudlin Career that I heard on Good Morning America in April 2009. I knew right away that I had never heard anything like them and I have not since then! What a special group.

Kexp played “New Years resolution” on, you guessed it, jan 1. 2020. Discovering Camera Obscura helped me through a really weird tough year, with the masks and all. I made a baritone guitar like the guitarist’s Jazzmaster. Thanks for the inspiration
I was at Coachella in 2013 and hanging with a music industry type. She said we have to check this band because the lead singer is supposed to have an amazing voice - walked into the Mojave tent as they were just starting their set. Love, love, love this band ever since.

Carrie looked great that day - she had a sundress on and cool '50s sunglasses. She looked like she was having a blast. So sad she left us so early.
