hehehe, Stecher did NOT look like a well tuned sprinter at all! She always had her under knickers hanging out of her running knickers too! Very attractive! hehe
Shame, alot of them never knew that they were abusing steroids. Under the old German authorities they were forced to take their enhancements. Many suffered in their later years of ill-health as a consequence of the doping earlier in their lives.
Just found a good site for fans of this era with most of the major races from the career of Karin Balzer, just type in her name and indulge in some great footage from 64 through 72.
She was great here. The confidence was there from the start; the way she stood at the blocks, looked ahead with focus and determination, the way she adjusted her balls before the start. All those little gestures suggest a woman in control and ready to destroy the oppositon.
Can't believe the cruel comments, just because she was a large lady & actually very humble do people not respect the hours of training to achieve success
there is one thing that I have always asked myself and I have never been able to give an answer; why did the GDR that produced everything from technology, food to clothes etc..etc .. you didn't think of having your own sports brand instead of using adidas that was it like admitting that to play sports he needed the technical materials of the West? on the other hand, sport was the most beautiful and most admired image of democratic Germany. I extend this question to anyone who can give an answer....attention .... to anyone who knows the answer and not to whoever invents it at the moment. Thanks
@@keithf_ The East German state specifically just trained their athletes harder and longer. They used sporting success to promote the state. The Americans did exactly the same, but only for thrmdelvs to win multi million dollar commercial awards. It was socialism v capitalism.
Because they are all white. Black women develop more visible muscles than whites or Asians. No misunderstanding desired: This is not against black athletes. I like women with muscles as long as they are developed without steroids, and I like black female athletes especially.
About the time I became interested in athletics; but I was at boarding school so not sure I'd have been able to watch. The name Szewinska wouldn't have meant anything to me and I remember Neil being good; didn't realise how pretty she was: the interweb makes that possible. This might be just before Sonia Lannaman started to appear? Not sure I was aware of drug-taking so the British women never seemed to be as successful as the men; the other way round now, I think.

Meanwhile a young Raylene Boyle was back in Australia awaiting to be robbed of the gold in the 100m and 200m 1972 Olympic Final.
Szewinska was returning from having a baby so she was not quite back to form here. This was the beginning of the drug machine known as the GDR.
Наркомашина это USA
So many great sprint champions in this race
and it is also interesting to see how she developed until 1976. i think her legs became twice as thick in that time!
Why didn't commentators, pundits or administrators call out what was going on? Must have known.
An all-white final. Unimaginable today.
Not quite. Anita Neil was definitely black.
If they are are allowed to juice like the americans, no problem . Even the west germans were better than americans in the 70ies

Thanks for post, these vudeos are fascinating and remind me of my youth.
Renate looks almost small her compared to how she looked in Rome in 1974 or in Montreal.
Interesting to see Inge Helten in this race.
why?

They all did doping, from Usa to Russia

Brett .Davies Lmao
They didn't need good technique. The Turinabol did the job.
@@joeortiz7715 Like with all other athletes in those days
Stecher from the waist down was a man!
That took forever!
athlete5399 would you have anything from Rome 1974 like the 100m, that would be great if you did ?
Yeah Super doping women

She was a drug cheat, plain and simple. A tainted athlete, like so many East Germans. And there were/are plenty of USA drug cheats in athletics BTW
Doping-Stecher, wer mit Pillen vollgestopft ist dem gibt man nicht die Hand.
Hmmm...that Renate Stecher wasn't on drugs at all, was she?

Most, if not All of these Women, were on Steroids. The 70s and 80s, were the heyday of Steroid use. It's documented.

Renate Stecher ....slowing film speed down ,may have got a false start
no false start
No false start - and Start control was first in place by Swisstiming 1972 for the Olympic Games
MrPaulpops2003 - she moved slightly but her hands never came up from the floor.
"Ste-KER"? Pleaaaase
The German "ch" is very difficult to pronounce for English speakers and requires weeks of practice. Ask my wife. But she tried hard and managed it.
