Ashland claims another victim on December 28, 2018. This time, a pickup turns north on to the tracks, and just keeps going and going… Once again, all’s well that ends well.
The funniest part is the very end -- how many people tried to help, all the squad cars, the tow truck is called, and finally the tow driver just looks at it and is like "can't we just back it back onto the road?" and totally does.
@@JR-playlists I honestly would have never put that comment there. I was laughing at the truck on the tracks. I lived near Ashland for a few years. I don't want to see anything happen to the town.
It's absolutely mind blowing just how many people don't pay attention there!!! It appears they are always trying to cut the corner instead of pulling up a little further, then turning! Happy New Year to everyone!!!
I think I speak for everyone when I say, "I think we all know what Ashland's New Year's Resolution should be." Let's see if drivers get Smarter OR Stupider in 2019.
A set of reflective delineator posts between the tracks on the pavement would solve that problem. We have them here in Bartlett Illinois where the tracks run through town like this and it never ia an issue.
the first thing I said to myself. Self! Why do these highly intellegent folks not just back the truck up and out the same way it came in? I laughed at the end of the video.
Ashland council could install level crossing gates , like we have in UK, they don,t go up or down , they stay in place over rails, when train approaches they swing over road preventing vehicles from driving round them thus eliminating any accidents. train passes swing back over rails.
Need to find the person in the red truck. It's mostly their fault. Why did they stop in traffic and let the white truck go? I'd be looking for that driver to help pay what ever the cost it.
One would assume that after the 2nd time they'd consider making it more apparent where the crossing ends. Just like they do in Germany with red and white railings on each side.
You should give the APD a link to these camera feeds, assuming you haven't already. Something to stick up in the control room every now and then anyway. :P
Tow Truck Driver as he's trying to hook up the truck (unsuccessfully): "Yes, I can get you out of here, but there will be less damage to your vehicle if you just let the train hit it."
@@jack303030 Yeah, I about died laughing when he did that! But I knew if he pulled them out, like it looked like he was going to do initially, that it would have tore that truck slap up. LOL!!!
In some parts of Europe they have guards that rise up out of the pavement and stay up as long as the gates are up. Once the gates come down poles go up and they prevent cars from going on tracks. I realize that Amtraks often block the street, that can be addressed as well.

@@57thorns ....or something I just thought of in addition to markings: reflectors like we see in between center line markings on highways. Helpful guidance in rainy conditions and on dark stretches of road.
I can see how especially if you don't know the area you could think you're making a left onto the road. Seems like its always raining, could be a factor.
I'm guessing Ashland is okay with all these events as over time they've done absolutely nothing to prevent them. A simple white turn line painted on the road would solve these problems. My state has them.
They need to put in a ramp there so at least they can back up. Also, there is an awkward signal near where I live where they actually put flashing rabbit lights on the lane lines so people will know where to turn.
I think there should be a second set of gates at locations where this frequently happens. These gates would be across the tracks (as opposed to the road). They would normally be down, and have appropriate signage (“STOP”, “DO NOT ENTER”, “YOU AIN’T A TRAIN, SO STAY OFF THESE TRACKS” etc) train comes along, the regular gates descend normally, then these new gates go up. Might prevent an accident.
A little forgotten fact. Most if not all vehicles, are not designed to travel on train tracks, unless they are fitted with the proper rail riding equipment. And, where's a train when you need one?
If someone ever gets hurt/killed here, their lawyers are going to appreciate that VR has many vids of this continually happening. The town or the RR might not appreciate it as much.
I think they need to redesign the intersection before someone gets killed. The city may be found liable for the dangerous intersection design in a court case.

You have to wonder how poor the eyesight is of these drivers.
Funny! I figured they could have driven it back off the tracks onto the road, if they'd just stopped and used their head instead of trying their best to push ahead and jump the rails. (The pickup obviously had sufficient ground clearance.)
Wow ashland beat the world record for the most cars on the tracks and one of those cars ended up being hit by a csx train, now look what we have here again 😕
Maybe the street needs two wide white reflective lines bordering the edge of the road along the tracks with lettering that says "RAILROAD TRACKS DO NOT ENTER" . I was there in the daylight last year and you can turn too soon going either direction if you aren't familiar with that intersection.
Even better - a curb between the tracks (blocking the way for vehicles) plus the stripes and better lighting. In the meantime... it IS a source of amusement for watchers!
RedHeart64.....good idea, has anyone suggested that to the railroad? What won't be funny is when the 7:00pm container train shows up while people are trying to push the truck off the tracks. I'll bet that rollback owner makes some money.
I now understand why cars keep making this mistake. That looks like an extremely awkward intersection. For the truck to turn left like he wanted, he would have to almost drive into the oncoming traffic across the railroad. That, and all the lights because its night, are probably what make drivers think the track is the road.
CSX should put posts in the ground between both tracks and on the streetside of the tracks with reflective stickers or paint so the driver sees that they cannot turn there. MTA (LIRR) had this problem and and did that to every crossing and the problem just about disappeared.
I think virtual railfan should start a cars on tracks series to compete with 11'8

Skilful driver.
And after seeing that, the truck drivers cajones just shrived up and dropped off.
The tow truck operator's union has fought for years to keep down any improvements in Ashland. They can't afford the drop in business.

There's a big elevation change between the crossing and the gravel

I was thinking that the entire time.
With so many people running onto the tracks you'd think that they'd make some improvements to those intersections to help prevent this from happening.

Not necessarily. There's always a certain percentage of dolts on the roads. More drivers + more miles driven each year= more dolts.
