Matthew 10:23 But when they persecute you in this city, flee ye into another: for verily I say unto you, Ye shall not have gone over the cities of Israel, till the Son of man be come.

God absolutely knew the outcome. Yes, it was fair for the soldiers to die. Live by the sword die by the sword. God knew what was up in those specific guards' hearts. These specific guards were there for a reason.
Yes, God knows when your heart is irredeemable when you have made your choice of Him or the world. When He knows that, He can cast judgment on you at any time. This is why we seize the moment, when we see the truth and hear the truth, we are to grab onto the truth and never look back.

Would God kill someone to teach someone else a lesson?

That is what we see in Scripture, isn't it? Think of the 36 men who died as a result of Achan's sin in the Book of Joshua.

@@ethanhocking8229 Yes. But it's a thing that only a few would ever think about...

Or the first child of David and Bathsheba. Although it might be more of an act of judgement rather than to teach a lesson.

@NicoCoco Your examples all "punish" someone who did something wrong.
But yes, there was a lesson to be learned by the "survivors". The judgement of Israel worked quite well for some years. But you can't learn much from your own death... 😉
Job and his children might perhaps be the best example that comes to my mind. Neither he nor his children did anything extraordinarily wrong.
      And we (hopefully) learn something...

But didn't Peter just exercise his free choice to leave? He could have stayed in prison. 😛😛

But Paul really loved God, the Romans did not.
The Romans would have had the chance to talk to Peter and know why he was there.
They all had an opportunity to believe Christ. Being chained to Peter of all people- come on now.
Just because they died doesn't mean God neglected them. Refer to Luke 13:4-5

Acts 12:3-4 is wrong in James White's Bible, because he detests the King James.
