- Acts 2:39 should be thought of by Reformed believers right along with Acts 13:48 and other texts teaching and proclaiming the sovereignty of God in salvation, but it normally is not. Why? Tradition. Today we spent the entire program, basically, looking at this one topic, digging into the original languages and considering the message of Peter’s response to the inquiry, “Men and brethren, what shall we do?”

in Acts 2:38 repent is a transitive verb it demands an object( it asks the question repent of what) .The object in this vs. is not sin. It is Jesus Christ. I like this vs. so much because it is so explicit in it's message... I will attempt to break it down in regard to it's verbs..from the original Greek text...The vs. says ,Believe on the lord Jesus Christ ,and thou shalt be saved....Believe is the main verb...it is a aorist active ,imperative of the greek verb Pistos ,to believe. The aorist tense is a point of time that you believe. This is a special aorist tense that takes this point of time and perpetuates it into infinity..The active voice ,the subject ,produces the action of the verb,you believe. The imperative mood is a command. Saved is sozo, a future passive participle .A participle is an auxiliary verb that supports the main verb..The future tense show a completed action the moment you believe . The passive voice unlike the active voice ,says the subject (the one believing in Christ)receives the action of the verb rather than producing this action...In this case he receives salvation. So based on the original text The vs.is more accurately translated. Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and at that moment ,you are saved for ever and ever..
Notice repentance is not mention because a spiritual dead person is not capable of doing anything to save himself.
I appreciate this speaker refering back to the original Greek to get a clear meaning of our English words.
On the speaker saying that most believers don't read their Bible i agree.
The don't because, like i was, thought it was beautifully written but seemed compicated, repetitive, and hard to understand. So they go to priests or protestant pastors to explain what salvation involves whether these church leaders know what they are talking about or not they believe them.
Before i recieved the Holy Spirit i was like them but didn't seek out a church leader to explain salvation to me.
After i recieved the Holy Spirit ,evidenced by speaking in to tongues, i went home and decided to read a little from the Bible before going to bed.
When i opened it and started reading i was amazed. Suddenly it had taken on much more depth.I felt like i was reading a book within a book.
I felt the Spirit i had recieved guiding me and teaching me the meaning of what i was reading.
I didn't learn until later that the Word says that," The anointing you have recieved of him abideth in you and you need no man to teach you, but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things and is truth and is no lie and even as it hath taught you abide in him"( 1John 2:27).
A Nazi officer was interviewed after WW2 ended and he was asked," Why did the Nazis hate the jews so much ?"
His response was," Ask Martin Luther."
Martin Luther became antisemetic after his failure to recieve Jesus as the Christ.
Jesus is Lord.
I’m CoC and Acts 2:38 is not the only verse. Acts 22:16, Mark 16:16, 1 Peter 3:21 etc.
So we must be baptized in order to recieve forgiveness of sins. It’s not so much the water that cleans us of our sins but the act of obedience to this commandment. Let me know if I understand correctly please

Its all about Israel getting their sins remitted, *not about anyones salvation.*
We currently live in the Ephesian 3:2 "Dispensation of the grace of God"
Jesus made Saul/Paul our apostle today because in Acts 9, Israel fell.
Consider what happened at 2Corinthians 5:19.
This verse says God the Father was in God the Son on the cross.
It was there Jesus died for every one of your sins. And every one of ISRAELS PAST SINS.
Jesus was buried with your sins, and rose again three days later without your sins.
*Believe this* and be ye reconciled back to God and be SAVED.

God the Son bore the punishment we deserve. You deserve. I deserve.
Jesus was made sin for us to apease the wrath of God yet to come upon this unbelieving world.

You can be saved and sealed unto the day of Christ today, right now.
Just *believe how* that Jesus died for every one of your past, present, and future sins according to scripture, he was buried WITH your sins, and rose again on day 3 WITHOUT your sins.

Be made the righteousness in Christ and be SAVED!

Acts 2:38, acts 22:16. A lot of people want to say baptism is a work, but it is a work that God commands not nothing we have done, but it’s our obedience to His Words.

The book of Acts is a transitional book.
It begins with Peter, ends with Paul.
Starts with the Jewish law covenant between the Jesus and the Nation of Israel, ends with the"Revelation of the Mystery"; grace through faith, *apart from the works of the law.*
Don't miss the progressive nature of scripture.
Acts 2:38 is befor Romans chapter one. Peter befor Paul.
Acts 2:38 has nothing to do with our salvation today.
Its all about Israel getting their sins remitted, *not about anyones salvation.*
Israel had to have their sins placed in remission, which by the way, is not fully forgiven, and is why Peter wrote in the next chapter, Acts chapter 3 Peter said ISRAELS sins will be totally blotted out until they are back in the presense of the Lord.
Thats Acts 3:19.
It was good news for Israel, while they were still in their risen state, however, they have fallen.
And water baptisim for the remission of sins fell with them.
If youre a Bible student you already knew that, but if you don't there are numerous verses that tell us this.
One of the clearest is in Romans chapter 11 verse 11.
*There it says that through Israels fall, salvation has come to the Gentiles.*
You see, everyone in Acts 2 was a law observing, old testiment Jew.
Acts 2 is speaking to a nation, and thats why in verse 37 it says that when they heard this, they were pricked to their heart. And said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles: "men and bretheren, what shall we do?"
No individuals there.
What shall *we as a nation* do? Thats their question.
This is national forgiveness. Not individual forgiveness or salvation.
And Peter responds. He tells them what to do: "Repent".
That means to change your mind about who you killed. That was our Massiah.
You see, at that time, their earthly kingdom will still being offered to their nation.
Anyone wanting to know about individual salvation needs to go and ask Paul and Sylus.
That requires you to walk a ways. Walk on into the book of Acts. Youll have to travel several chapters until you arrive at chapter 16 at verse 30.
Thats where a guard, he was a guard at the jail there, he said: "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"
They said believe on the Lord Jesus Christ and thall shalt be saved.
Thats a clear answer.
Paul, the same on who tells us Gods not imputing our sins to us, so Hes not going to answer the guy and say heres how youre going to get your sins forgiven like acts 2:38 (Repent and be baptised), No.
The guy wants to know how to be saved.
Which by the way, should be the question for all unsaved people today:
"What must I do to be saved?" Not
"What must I do to get my sins forgiven?"
Sins are already forgiven.

This Bible is written in a progressive nature, and it didn't stop at acts 2:38.
Because all world religions claim to have a God. But none of them, not even one have a true Deity that came and died for their sins.
The JEWISH religious system many are following today does not offer a way to be saved, and dispises those of us who do.
Paul says: But I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for I know it is the power unto God unto salvation to everyone that believeth.
Most preach a "time past" gospel that was for the Nation Isreal.
Oh, its in the Bible. But there's a lot of things in the Bible that are not your instructions for today.
Its truth, but we are to "rightly divide" the word of truth.

Acts 2:38 was truth for a Nation. A national message for the Nation of Isreal. But its not the gospel that saves today.
No, the gospel that saves today is Pauls gospel. The one that Christ gave to him. Its called the "gospel of Christ". The "Gospel of the grace of God".
Which is faith in the bloodshed of Christ. Faith that he died for your every sin, he was buried, and he has risen.

THAT is the power of God unto salvation for us today.

When we compare scripture with scripture as God prescribed, we can begin to see supporting doctrine with 1st John.
John wasn't talking to Gentiles in Acts 2, and if you believe your Bible you would know this.
Galatians chapter 2 is clear. Johns gospel was restricted to the circumsizion; the Jews.
Gentiles were not included.

If you think you need to follow scripture and be water babptised according to Acts 2:38, then you should read a little further and follow the instructions in Acts 2:44 & 45 as well. Right?
Thats what Peters church did. It was MANDITORY.
Because according to this Jewish Acts 2:38 church:
"And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
*And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need."* - Acts 2:44,45 KJV
So have you sold all your posessions and goods?

If being obedient to scripture is important unto salvation, It wouldnt be wise to follow only the verses you like, and just ignore the ones you dont.
Thats called cherry-picking, and doesnt help your case much. You would be disrespecting scripture.
The book of Acts, written by Luke, is a *transitional* book.
Acts records the progressive nature of scripture and what happened after the Nation of Israel stumbled and crucified Jesus Christ.
Acts 1:1-3
It also records the Biblical evidence that Gods instructions about forgiveness and salvation changed.
It begins with Peter preaching to a Jewish nation to repent and be baptised for REMISSION of sins, and ends with Paul preaching BELIEVE on the Lord Jesus Christs FINISHED work and be saved.
I wont go into detail here. Read Acts yourself with non biased lenses.
Believe what you read, where it was written, who it was written to, who wrote it, and what was going on at the time. 2Tim 2:15.

Prove it that baptism has nothing to do with salvation. You’re twisting the scripture trying to make it fit what you refuse to believe. We’re not to add or take away from Gods word. All scriptures are given by the inspiration of God and they fit together like a glove and since you have no basis for what you’re teaching that makes you a false teacher. Explain acts 2:38, Acts 22:16, 1 Peter 3:21.
Is water baptism for the Church the Body of Christ? What did OUR (!) apostle Paul say about baptism in this dispensation of Grace?

Do you know what the Ministry of reconciliation means?
It takes two for the process of reconciliation. God made the first step: He reconciled himself to the world. He would never reconcile himself to sin. So what did He do?
Christ paid the price for the sins of the whole world. That was the necessary atonement, directly followed by God forgiving the world all trespasses.
Today, sin is not imputed to anyone, ALL sin was put on Christ, buried with him. When Christ rose again, all sin stayed in his grave and is not ever to be re-imputed to anyone in this dispensation of Grace.
That's our good news of today the Gospel of our salvation: the work was finished on the cross, once and for all. Now sin is put out of the way between God and man. Hallelujah 🙏🙏🙏
Now it's your turn: be ye reconciled to God. Believe that all your sins were forgiven by God when Christ paid the price for every single sin.
This is salvation today: believe, your sins were completely forgiven on the cross when you were His enemy,as the sins of the whole world were paid and forgiven there.
Believing that, trusting in Christ alone is what saves you today. In this very moment, Christ's righteousness is imputed in your account, by His spirit you are baptized into Christ, sealed with the Holy Spirit until the day of redemption, eternal life and all spiritual blessings are yours, you are a new creature, a member of the church, the Body of Christ, your Destination is heavenly places.
Paul, our only apostle,did not say one single word in all his 13 epistles how to get your sins forgiven. Because salvation is to believe they already are.
This is our ministry, Ambassadors for Christ, ministers of reconciliation. Share the good news that God has forgiven all the worlds sin and is not imputing them, today is the day of salvation!

And you can’t explain those verses. The scriptures have to fit together. How can you teach on something that you can’t even explain. Maybe you need to repent and be baptized for the remission of your sins and maybe you’ll understand.
