    What clever uses for prestidigitation do you have? Let me know in the comments!

    Flavor only lasts for an hour. Any secret inspections by the restaurateur's guild would likely include ordering drinks and saving some to test later.

    Slight spoilers for Dimension 20's Fantasy High: Sophomore Year, but one of the best uses of Prestidigitation I've seen is from the end of the season where the crew is in a forest where illusions become real and they use Prestidigitation to create a diamond to use Revivify on a fallen team-mate. Super clutch!

    Favorite use for Thaumaturgy: Cause window shutters and doors to fly open into the face/crotch of a pursuer a la Looney Toons.

  • @schwarzerritter5724
    @schwarzerritter5724 Год назад +7

    What many people miss about Prestidigitation also Thaumaturgy and Druidcraft is that they have spell components. People will notice if you are casting it without someone else causing a distraction.

    • @Tercel5750
      @Tercel5750 8 месяцев назад

      This. A lot of these only work if they go unnoticed, not sure how this happens in a drinking contest

      Sorcerer with Subtle Spell meta magic does help in overcoming that though.

    • @Alpha_Synergy
      @Alpha_Synergy 5 месяцев назад +2

      It has verbal and somatic, but no material components. I'd say casting subtly is a slight of hand check

    • @schwarzerritter5724
      @schwarzerritter5724 5 месяцев назад

      @@Alpha_Synergy Ignoring spell limitations is not creativity, it is the opposite of creativity.

    • @Alpha_Synergy
      @Alpha_Synergy 5 месяцев назад +2

      @@schwarzerritter5724 I'm not talking about ignoring any mechanics. A rogue or bard who has a high Slight of Hand proficiency might be able to do whatever the motion is in a less noticeable way, and the verbal component can be woven into other things, or said quietly. You don't need to shout to Cast the spell, and there's no description of what the motion and sounds are- this leading into the incredible variety of flavoring for the spell. However, as you said, you are still making a motion and at least whispering a spell- thus, you can use another party member to help distract from your magic, or you can roll for it to decide the effectiveness of your attempts to be subtle.

    Oh. The Phantom story. Okay... The players had down time to pursue their personal interests above that of their adventuring troupe. Cue the genie warlock, who had the Urchin background and at this point had hired several if not all of the local orphanages charges for runners and carriers, making an enemy in the the troupes rival coffee shop (that's another, long story. Short version - Starbugbears vs. Gunkin Goblins coffee shop rivalry). After a solid few days of steadily losing custom, the warlock decided to use two things: Prestidigitation's 'faint musical notes' aspect, and a Horn of Silent Alarm. The Gunkin Goblins employee who had so earned his ire was treated to a barrage of auditory "hallucinations." After a solid week, I rolled. Nat 1. The Goblin cracked, and they had to hunt down a crazed psychopath killer who was reported to hum a little tune no one could recognize. No one, that is, except the warlock.
    Thanks for the upload, made my Sunday!

      A great story, but by far the best part is a coffee shop called the Gunkin Goblin lmao

    An apprentice stepped in troll shit one day wearing her favorite boots. In horror and disgust, she spammed prestidigitation cleaning on them every 6 seconds for about 10 minutes.
    When she was done, she realized the bottoms of her boots had been bleached near white. Not having been done with chemicals, the material had not weakened in the process. The student brought the boots to her teacher for an explanation. The teacher brought the boots before the faculty to discuss being unable to explain it himself. The best working theory after months of experiments and discussion was a very brief overlap where the initial spell was done but fading out while the new spell was in effect. This minute overlap, they proposed, caused a deeper level of cleaning than normal.
    The apprentice used it to beach her hair a lighter color than her twin sister from that point on.

    • @twistedpinttavern

      That's actually a really cool way to flavor bleaching things

    NICE VID. Most youtubers just read from the book.
    After they post THEN we can "Learn how it really works" from the comments section.
    GOOD JOB on uploading D&D videos with further research than a reading from the PHB

    4:58 Snuff out dynamite... Yes, a fuse is certainly more powerful than a candle. But, the spell can instantaneously snuff out a small campfire. Campfire > Fuse IMO.

    On that last bit about the tavern having protection against it.
    .....
    A tavern where the mugs hold the flavor cast in them could be fun.
    Especially if the effect fades as the mugs leave the tavern.....
    For err reasons.
    Properly sold mugs work as they should.
    Invisible fey casters keep the magic constantly refilled on the taverns mugs.
    +
    A student enchanter learning there trade sells the enchanted mugs to support there expensive school supplies.....
    They work diligently somewhere nearby the taven. It could be inside the building but the workshop has been sought but never found. Still the student enchanter is diligent at keeping the enchantment mugs ready for sale.
    .....
    The enchanters archfey patron runs the tavern.
    .....
    Err fairy godparent....
    For some reason their's a mug mimic running around.
    Its said to be the archfey's pet.
    Though it's carefully never talked about by the regular customers.
    Plus the strange clients that pop up on days when the barriers to the fey relm are thin. Are welcomed with a respectful nod and carefully payed little mind.
    Adventures that seek this place.
    Look for the sign with a twisted pint.
    😉
    ( Thought it would be fun to create the dnd location of the twisted pint tavern. Though I took some liberties when doing so. Feel free to plunder the above and play with the idea as you wish.
    Could create some interesting ambiance for the channel.
    Where do the stories come from?
    Oh stories the fairys bring me about silly adventures. So that they might drink from the mugs that stay full of the patron archfeys special drink..... Payment for overdrinking comes in the form of castings and fetching more stories.
    All ideas you don't actually need to use but were fun to theory craft.
    Enjoy. 👍😁

    My favorite use is to flavor an enemy's saliva to taste like rancid sewer sludge for one hour. Bonus points if you've had the misfortune of encountering that species waste before enough to smell it (which is how you can know what it tastes like without having to eat it). Fairly high con save DC, lasts one hour, and doesn't require concentration. You can also do this to up to three enemies at a time. Enjoy!

    One idea I've had for it is to use its "create a small flame" effect to use it as a portable lighter. Spend an action to light an oil flask, then chuck it up to 20 feet to light that tile on fire the next turn. It's only 5 flat damage a turn for two rounds for anything that passes through it but it's basically passive damage that you can stack. As for non-combat uses for this, you can basically use it alongside some brushwood to create a campfire without having to take Create Bonfire, which despite being more effective for this is useless for anything that doesn't involve creating a campfire or bonfire.

    Bully someone by throwing raw eggs that only lasts a single turn, so by the time one egg disappears, you have another ready to throw. Or those things you can get on the 4th of July that pop when you throw them if it's allowed.
