I have the 2020 Corolla hybrid,I absolutely love the car. I’m averaging 64-66 mpg back and forth to work not driving slow either. Car is so cheap to run, handling is great for what it is. I paid 22900 fior mine in July of 2019. Sticker was 24500 fairly loaded.

This was a really solid review. Other reviewers often pull punches in comparing vehicles of different classes. I think they do it out of laziness. “Corolla smaller and cheaper but better MPG” is convincing enough that they don’t really need to expand.
I however like hearing that it handles a little better than the Camry and surpassingly offers a better field of vision. That’s something I haven’t heard in any other review and it actually means a lot for my taste.
I haven’t watched/read a ton of car reviews, so I didn’t realize field of view isn’t always covered. My experience from driving is that smaller vehicles _generally_ have a better field of view, so I’m not surprised that the Corolla wins on that front.
100% agree with the review. It's almost 2024 and today I test drove both cars from 2022 today. If I wasn't looking at long occasional road trips and daily highway commutes to work I possibly would have bought the Corolla, but the Camry just felt way more solid as a driver. Less noise, considerably more "Cadillac" feel with silence and comfort. On the highway the Camry experience is far above the Corolla, while zipping around town the Corolla felt much more maneuverable in traffic on city streets. If I was not doing much highway driving its quite likely I would have chosen the Corolla. Again, I test drove both (twice) on highway and city.
To compare apples to apples, it would be interesting to see camry le hybrid instead. Not only that, but camry le hybrid is the only trim that has better battery compare to other trims. Camry le hybrid has mpg in 50s.
Sitting in a 2019 SE Camry Hybrid. I live in Az and the AC is always running in the summer. 58 mpgs. Love it..
The only reason to buy a sedan these days is because they look cool. Might as well get a rav4 if you wanna get a crappy looking trim.

@@WINDSORTOWNSAVI own a hybrid accord sport but only because it looks cool with the 19 inch rims. You can get the same mpg and more practicality with a rav4 or cr v hybrid.
I kind of like that the Corolla hybrid is made in Japan. I have had them a few times as loaner cars from my dealership and I really like that for what they are.

My 2018 Camry LE gets around 450 to 470 miles per tank driving around the city. When I take long road trips, I can get just over 600 miles per tank. Absolutely love my car. The new 2022 Camry LE hybrid can get an insane 51 mpg!!!
On Nathan's very last comment on these vehicles, I agree, " Hybrids are the way to go ".
But I want that system in a pick up truck, and I know that there are a few to choose from, when the time comes around.
Thank you for acknowledging that the Toyota hybrids use an Ecvt and not regular cvt. Most reviewers seem to think they are the same thing.
And Toyota hybrid eCVT's never fail. People who are worried about the battery in hybrids should be more worried about the transmission in a Non-hybrid.
@@danmarjenka6361 this is true. Nearing 300,000 miles on my 2009 Camry hybrid and not a single issue with the transmission. Toyota made the cars very well.

I had a 2012 Camry hybrid. True average mpg for me was 38. Pretty good for a midsize sedan. Mine was fairly peppy. I raced my wife's 2014 Lincoln MKZ with the 2.0 turbo. And we were neck, so close in fact it was hard to tell who won. Mine was advertised to do 0 to 60 and 7 seconds. I'd say that was about right. Great reliable car as put around 170k miles on it before I let it go. Never ever had an issue mechanically.
If the need arose I would not hesitate to buy another one.

We have a 2021 le and the average is 47 mpg, on longer trips a 75 on the hw we get 52 mpg

My wife and I bought a Corolla SE as a commuter and with the 2L we still consistently average 40+mpg. Best consistent highway mpg we've seen was 52mpg. If you're doing strictly city driving then I guess the hybrid is worth it but for the 95% of people who will buy a Corolla just get the one that can get out of its own way.
I guess there’s a good reason why the corolla even now is the worlds best selling car of all time
@@naveenthemachine it's a great little econo box. It definitely does have it's flaws though like he mentioned the road/wind noise but being on the lower end of new car prices its understandable. You get alot for low $20k in the terms of reliability and efficiency.
I have the hybrid,it’s not slow ,it smokes the regular 1.8 Corolla,only the 2.0 is quicker.I average 64-67 mpg in mixed driving to work , it gets almost 30 mpg better than the regular Corolla.
@@JohnDiMartino you must have a 1 of 1 super special hybrid Corolla then. The LE does 0-60 in high 7's low 8's and a 16 sec 1/4 mile. The hybrid does the 1/4 mile in 18+ seconds. So very doubtful you're smoking any other Corolla out there.
2022 corolla hybrid my first hybrid . it's nice to do the math at the pumps and see I'm averaging 50.5 mpgs mostly freeway with a lot of weight from my job as a framer/ drywaller plus Car pulling with a co worker plus I put a full size spare in the trunk plus roof racks for Construction material I will be putting this Hybrid to work😆 Great review like Always!👍
I have 2006 prius and looking to upgrade to corolla hybrid over the camry....only thing I don't like about my prius on freeway its slow especially getting on ramps...city stop and go driving is a piece of cake...was going to ask how your experience with corolla is? Highway vs city? And is it slow to get to 60 and above? I avrg about 50mpg btw highway a little less than that....if it's slow then will prolly go with camry or wait for the new 2024 prius which will get huge performance and styling fix.

In the real world hybrid corollas can get 65mpg
A lot of longer trips in town driving with eco AC, I was averaging over 70 mpg.

I just got a 2024 Camry Hybrid XSE in the 2-tone color white/back. It’s my first Camry and first hybrid, and I am loving it!!! It looks sporty/greattt gas mileage, and very comfortable!!!

I bought a 2012 Prius Plug in advanced in 2015 for $16500. It now has 130,000 miles on it, still gets about 9 miles electric range to a charge... And while I'd love a new car, this thing still works great, has the hatchback for hauling just about anything a suburban person needs, and is great for tailgating at football games (can power a TV and a pair of crockpots!) I know people don't like the look of the Prius, but it's more useful than a sedan, more maneuverable and efficient and cost effective than a cross over, and more reliable than just about everything. Something to consider...
You guys should give the new Sienna hybrid minivan a proper towing test. Maybe you can run the battery down hauling up the mountains.

I don't get blind spot monitoring. I'm used to using my mirrors and being aware of my surroundings.
My wife had a 2010 Camry hybrid,had it for 8 years,70k miles,not a single mechanical problem,in fact that was our 10th Toyota,and the best(not that any of them were bad).We replaced the rotors and pads before selling it only because of age and a little rust on rotors. I got 42 mpg two way average on a trip to Maine from Pennsylvania and it was a comfortable ride,local it averaged around 30mpg. The Camry hybrid was definitely quicker than our son in laws non hybrid Camry as well. I would definitely by a hybrid over a plug in only,makes more sense for my needs. Also had a 2008 Prius for a work car,say what you will about its looks and all the other oddities,but that car is still going strong( a friend bought it from our company when we took it out of service) on its original battery with 220k on it, has had very few problems all these years.
I picked up a new Corolla Hybrid and I’m very happy with it. I wanted the efficiency without being an ugly Prius. I easily average way over the advertised mpg ratings too! 60-73mpg depending on conditions.
My only complaint is there’s next to no interior storage! There literally no good place to put it when plugged in to use apple carplay. I had to buy some stick on pockets…

I like the Camry hybrid. I've driven the corolla too. I ended up with the Hyundai Sonata Hybrid in 2016. After negotiations, I got it down to 17000 for a new car. There was no way I was getting a Toyota dealer that low for the Camry.
It’s still a Hyundai at the end of the day.

Went with my brother-in-law the other day to trade in my sisters 2006 Camry hybrid on a new Chevy truck. The car had approximately 180k miles. She never had a problem with it or had it tuned up. Computer showed 42 mpg when we were driving. Wanted to tell my brother-in-law I hope your new Chevy truck is this reliable…but he’s a big Chevy guy so I left it alone.

Great video. For me, I'll choose the Camry Hybrid due to its comfort and spaciousness. Also, if you're going to compare hybrid sedans, the better comparison is the Toyota Camry Hybrid vs the Honda Accord Hybrid or the Toyota Corolla Hybrid vs the Hyundai Elantra Hybrid.

For the money, comfort, mpg - and safety difference, I'd just get the bigger car.
Also, with the Corolla Hybrid only available in base, LE trim, there's a lot of optional equipment you can't get.
It is a shame though, the Toyota keeps ruining back seat room of their redesigns and rear vents are only available on top Camry trims - they should come standard.

I agree they should come standard. But they're not only available on higher trims. They're optional on lower trims and standard on higher trims. I've seen an SE Camry with rear vents and you can get them with the audio plus package while building a Camry on the Toyota website
I have the 2021 Camry hybrid XLE and it's an amazing drive. I drive at least 40 miles per day and only have to fill my tank every 2 weeks (and I have a heavy foot 😂). I've driven the corolla hybrid as a rental and overall I'd stick to my camry for the space and comfort.

What mpg are you averaging?
The equivalent in SUV's would be the Corolla Cross Hybrid and the Venza Hybrid. The Venza Hybrid is basically a lifted Camry Hybrid 🤔
The fit and finish of the Venza is light years ahead of the Camry... It looks way more luxurious and modern.....
Camry is more affordable...

You shouldn't leave the car sitting in your garage a month at a time...
It's best for the battery and engine to be driven regularly - especially at highway speeds.... The same applies to all cars - hybrid or not....

Agree us super noisy 🤣🤣🤣 specially if the concrete is old another downside is the trunk which I think is insufficient or badly distributed and the opening mechanism takes space and is outdated in my opinion

Ok so I got a 2023 Corolla, yep overpaid, didn’t want a new car, and got into a car accident where was run into behind and slammed into another car…..walked away thankfully….anyway it all depends on our priorities, in my case I rather get the better gas mileage, the room is slightly roomier then my 2014, squeeze in and out of spots since I spend about 20% of my time in the cities, overall I’m sure I would have been happy with the Camry but I’ve enjoyed Corolla since I had a geo prism which was essentially a Corolla
How about telling us WHAT KIND OF HYBRID BATTERY both cars have? The Tacoma Hybrid has a NiMH battery. That's great! I don't want a Lithium battery for safety reasons.
I wish they would make these as Primes. A plug in hybrid with 45 miles all electric would be awesome...
My wife and I just completed this journey. I also am 6'1 tall torso wide shouldered. Wife got a rental corolla. She loved the size parking at small parking structures. But the camry opened her eyes to just a little bit bigger but much more space. We got the Honda accord hybrid and we loved it much more.

"You guys should do a video on that E-CVT system, it's actually pretty ingenious design. It doesn't use a weak belt with gearless cones, like those poopy Jatco transmissions. It uses a simple planetary gear set (plenty of strong gears).
Which would normally be input/output (sun gear/planetary gears) with a clutch-belt on the ring gear, allowing the planetary gear set to have 2 variations of on/off, changing the gear ratio.
In an standard automatic transmission, there would be multiple planetary gear sets, working different configurations of on/off to get multiple gearing points.
But instead of a clutch-belt on the ring gear (only allowing on/off), they put another gear on it, then attached an electronic motor to it, and then used different speeds and directions of the electric motor to allow different gear ratios, and/or input additional torque into the drivetrain (or recharge the battery system) from a single planetary gear set.
No more broken CVT belts."
It’s really surprising many motoring journalists, are completely ignorant about the E CVT and how it’s so much superior to conventional CVT’s, it’s also surprising that Toyota don’t promote this fact more.
Camry any day. Especially XSE. But I’d probably stick with their 3.5L v6. The mpg I get in it is impressive 28-29g mixed and highway mpg between 37-40mpg
Thr last gen corolla (11th gen) however I really like because the backseat is quite roomy for the class. It’s very sad that the corolla shrunk inside. Even a civic with an IRS has more rear seat space
Styling is subjective on the Camry no doubting that but I think this generation Camry especially the XSE is damn sexy. It looks very Lexus F sport like which is a good thing for Toyota. I guarantee if you removed the Toyota and Camry badging you would think its a lexus.
The TNGA platform on the Camry (corolla too) shows just how far it’s really come in style, tech, luxury, and refinement.
V6 is going away soon.

I think shorter people like me (5'5") may prefer Corolla as it may still be spacious "enough". mileage 44 vs 52 is not that great. but in a tank of 12 gal capacity, that is about 100 miles higher. I drive 80 miles a day.
Take a cross country trip in a hybrid and then a BEV. The hybrid wins, always.
If you're just using it mainly around town, get the Corolla. If you're doing long trips on the highway, the Camry is a better choice.

love our 2018 corolla SE. Its functional, looks nice, returns 36mpg avg and was only 15k used with a few thousand on it. Plus it has the Toyota name. Loved it so much i traded my chevy 2500hd for a new tacoma

I have a hybrid Sienna and I had a hybrid rav4...I sold the Rav4 for an audi etron that I had for exactly 2 weeks before it got hit. It's still being fixed 3 months later. I'm going to trade it back for a rav4 or camry if I can find one

I know toyota calls it a e cvt . All their hybrids are elictic mortors with a Planatarey gear not a Belt an pully cvt like most people think.

They eventually went out of style in the USA. We used to get these station wagons in the 1980s and early 90s. The Minivan eventually took over and they stopped selling in the USA. However, they may comeback in the future if automakers slowly introduce them again.

The Corolla is a better value in almost every way. The Camry is a more refined car. The one annoyance I can’t get over is the road noise in the Corolla, it is brutal.

$5.69 per gallon yesterday. I was given a 2015 Prius a few days ago. It still cost 8.8 x 5.69 = $50.72

I just bought a 2021 Camry hybrid and there are flaws, it will not get EPA mpg unless you do long long trips I average 40-42 US MPG, the sealing systems around all the openings are horrible, dust intrusion is disgusting with no fix from Toyota, no rear vents in lower trims, fuel fill cap and cover do not keep dirt out and dirt migrates into the filler neck, the media system lacks options and adjustments that a lower speced Honda Accord has which is truly sad, power seats are comfortable but need more adjustment/travel eg. lower adjustment and backward adjustment.
Would I buy one again? Probably not unless Toyota steps up their game and fixes these issues.

@@A2-RC I agree, I think it's a bit silly when they talk about speed and handling of these hybrids. I like Alex from AOA, but he's probably one of the biggest culprits on this subject as he's always talking about winding road handling, putting on bigger tires/wheels for performance, etc. He completely misses the mark on what these vehicles missions are which is fuel economy.

The EV mode is perfect for sneaking in or out of one's driveway at night and early morning. It's likely a marriage-saving device that Toyota added for those who need it.
If you want a long lasting Luxury car never buy, a Mercedes Benz unless it's actually manufactured in Germany, Buy an Acura, or a Lexus, Most German Automobiles just are not what they were 25 years ago or before that.

Although my opinion about the TV in the middle of the dashes are extremely dangerous. Worse then people driving while being on their cellphones. Something really upsets me more about the TV in the middle of the dash. Over an decade ago. Being big in vehicle stereos and new gadgets. There was an stereo. That one could watch movies on, ect going down the road. Then they outlawed them because they were to dangerous. Now in the new vehicles. That TV screen size is mega larger then the one I had over an decade ago. Even besides that. My 2020 F150 XLT sceen was the same size as those back then. I can live with that. The new ones. My new truck the 2020 is my last of the newest vehicles I will ever own. I can stand these 2021 and up. Yet thanks for showing these. People do like them. Keep doing it.

One of the best ‘22 hybrids for your money is going to be the Ford Maverick. At similar prices, why would you buy a car?
Because with the Ford you will be driving’s the dealers loaner car mostly as the Maverick will be in the shop with all its problems
