    CNG buses generally have a shorter lifespan because the CNG tanks expire. Usually a bus will last about 10-14 years before either the CNG tank gets replaced or the bus gets replaced. In America, the bus usually gets replaced.

      Nothing much can be done afterward when a company decides to purchase a CNG bus. As you can see on the top of the bus, there are 2 covers. The front being where the tanks are stored, the back being the aircon. After 20 or so years, it is extremely unsafe to keep the tanks running over their expire date since they are at risk of exploding due to wear and tear from overtime. Here in Perth, we have OC500LE units that use CNG, though retired after their tanks expire due to safety reasons. Unless a hefty amount of money is invested to re assemble the engine to make it Diesel compliant, since all the fuel injectors and fuel lines are only CNG compliant, it’s cheaper to get a new vehicle and dispose of the CNG unit. It’s sad how they have to go, and that B10BLE personally was underused, and still had a good 5 years left. Tank expiry dates do very, but should last around 20 years, where as this B10BLE only lasted 13, so I guess it was retired early. However as mentioned above, there isn’t much choice to keep the bus operating after the tanks expire, because they can’t last forever or longer like how Diesel units can last.

    Woah, 17 years limit for busses? It is kinda short imo. Especially since there are other options such as overhauling the bus, that way less resources are spent on having to make a whole new bus frame, etc.
    10 years for private cars is even worse. My parents managed to get our car transferred to Malaysia after its 10 years was up and, with 20 years of age, it is still going like a champ! Only problem is that parts are a pain to find :/
    I do wonder if LTA chose the lifespan limits at random or based off of extensive calculations on how much CO2 is produced by an old vehicle compared with the CO2 produced in making a new vehicle. Would love to see the a paper on the subject.

    • @glitchFan2428
      @glitchFan2428  3 года назад +1

      Yes 17 is way too short. Buses of the 90s especially are made to run forever. But we cannot expect them to be as environmentally friendly as new models. 10 years for private cars is a renewable license and not a lifespan. You can renew the license indefinitely 10 years at a time currently. But with Singapore's plan to phase out existing petrol and diesel private cars, this might soon change.

    I suspect these buses were in for early retirement back in 2019 is probably due to safety reasons. I heard a while back, some bus in SG that uses CNG like these B10BLE caught fire while on the road, the driver was burn badly. Afterwards the LTA had all CNG buses check including these. The company that owned that private CNG bus had all other buses turn back to Diesel. I think LTA retired these as they possibly think as these buses get older, they might be a hazzard and even more dangerous. Theres a reason why we didnt see any more CNG buses bought by LTA.
    Btw the seats of these buses...are they the same as the Scania Demo 8033 seats? I just realised once 8030 & 8033 gets scrapped, all SG public buses will no longer have the old vogel seats😢.
    Which means only a few buses in singapore will have comfortable seats(CRRC C12, MAN A95 E6 3 door, MAN A95 3 Door Concept Bus). Hopefully LTA buys more buses with comfortable seats.

    How is it going to be old instead of relatively new? Must it be full 17 years in order for it to be old and relatively old. That's why other countries like UK may their bus run until their lifespan ends not sure if UK scrapped their bus at the early stage hopefully not then it's either preserved or scrapped but definitely UK people likes preserved and UK government respect them so UK government preserve but SG don't care scrapped whatever LTA likes. I am not sure if the bus operator such as SBS Transit is also the one who wants all NWAB and low Euro Buses to be scrapped other than LTA. It's a waste of money. This bus is somehow in quite a mint condition, and yet under the painful jaws of death at a young age, what a waste! 😢
    I wished the E4 KUBs, which are about to retire will not receive this punishing treatment after their faithful service all their lives. If SG3100M's trial passed, I would prefer the E4 KUBs to be retrofitted into electric buses ⚡ 🚌 than them getting this horrendous treatment. 😁

      @@รัชชานนท์โสธรรมมงคล That's the case for some SBST MB O405s that were exported for daily service in Bangkok, Thailand.
      In this case, the rear doors of this bus should be modified into leaf swinging doors and disable the door close before moving off rule so it can operate in Thailand.
