To fix your lightning port on your phone, try getting a pin or something thin like that and scrape out the inside of it. I had a similar problem and it sounds basic but mine had a load of compacted pocket lint at the bottom which was stopping the charger/ headphones getting a clean connection

Only thing I didn't like was the velcro, if you were going to drill through the cup holder assembly you may as well trim down the tops of the cup holder to fit the circuit (or move the charging circuit into the cup hold and leave the induction above, you would need to extend the cables)

  • @barcherda

10 months later. But I think the best thing you could do with that hole in the cupholder, is to put some sort of rubber grommet to keep it as sleek as possible but also to make the hole smaller.

On my F30 I have a wireless charging phone cradle with the BMW ExactFit Magnetic phone mount (from rennline). That way I don't cover any airflow or cup holders and my phone is facing me. Useful for navigation. The only drawback is that it obscures the heat seater button from the passenger and the very short wire to power the charger from the cigarette lighter is kind of cumbersome.
Maybe I'll reroute the cable. Still a useful video for learning about taking off those trim pieces.
