tbh I love the cupholders in my e90. the cups are out of the way and it reminds me to always get a small or medium... LOL I highly prefer my e90 cup holders to my f30 :(
JD bro, this was simply sick! I can’t believe these people are throwing so much hate in the comments. Putting your phone in the center console is so lame and definitely difficult to access! Please keep changing the game sir!
To fix your lightning port on your phone, try getting a pin or something thin like that and scrape out the inside of it. I had a similar problem and it sounds basic but mine had a load of compacted pocket lint at the bottom which was stopping the charger/ headphones getting a clean connection
you should.ve bought a fast wireless pad that is just 1amp output ... it.s gonna take forever to charge your phone it.s a nice idea but you should get a fast wireless charger if you go through all of that hassle
JD Cars Nikolay Nikolov all iPhones that support wireless charging DO support fast charging...up to the first 50% in 30 mins...minimum 18W charger needed
On the center piece, there's a 12 volt cigarette lighter connector and a simple antenna which identifies your car key. Theres no lights there. I work for bmw and I assemble the center console ;)
Great cheap solution, just an idea for upgrade if possible repalce the velcro with a magnet tipe contactor connected to the 12 v cable underneath so then when you need to use the cup holder the wireless charging pad can be completely removable.. just an idea.. overall really like the video and all the implementation
Here's a crazy idea... How about installing the wireless charging unit under the centre console. Near the rear. You keep the cup holders and could always place a thin rubber / vinyl cut out piece the size of the phone to stop it sliding off
Take a thumb tack or paperclip and scrape out of the lint from your charging port on your phone. I had the same problem, turns out, that port collects lint every time you slide it into your pocket
Jackson Shrader was literally looking for a comment to recommend him to do this cuz i had the same idea!! But yea clean up the port its actually a common problem
Hi! just a tip for your phone, take a tweezer and remove the lint which has gotten stuck in your charging port.. This will help with your connection issue.. Love the DIY though!
Only thing I didn't like was the velcro, if you were going to drill through the cup holder assembly you may as well trim down the tops of the cup holder to fit the circuit (or move the charging circuit into the cup hold and leave the induction above, you would need to extend the cables)
10 months later. But I think the best thing you could do with that hole in the cupholder, is to put some sort of rubber grommet to keep it as sleek as possible but also to make the hole smaller.
I wondering if you could have just plugged a wireless charging pad into the cigarette light port and then put it on that tray. But it's cool mod and a cool video. Thumbs up.
I had the same issue with my charging port. Turns out there was a pretty significant amount of lint packed tightly in there which prevented my cable from connecting properly. I used a safety pin to get it out. If you try the same Just make sure your phones off and be gentle.
Hey jd the reason why your charger port has play in it us because your have debris inside the port use a paper clip and take out all the dust that has accumulated
Hi, can you please make a video on how to install RGB Led strips to the foot wells and hard wire it to the cigarette lighter. I have the same vehicle. Nice video.
On my F30 I have a wireless charging phone cradle with the BMW ExactFit Magnetic phone mount (from rennline). That way I don't cover any airflow or cup holders and my phone is facing me. Useful for navigation. The only drawback is that it obscures the heat seater button from the passenger and the very short wire to power the charger from the cigarette lighter is kind of cumbersome. Maybe I'll reroute the cable. Still a useful video for learning about taking off those trim pieces.
I think de hot of the motherboard in chargin process and the glue can be a problem, because the resistances are so hot. You don't have problems with this?
Wow that was awesome but a little past my comfort zone. I’d rather have an electronic specialist install this. I don’t have any of those tools (wire crimp, heat gun, etc)😳😳 But it looks great. What an awesome idea. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Great idea, you just need to plan ahead when you do things like this, not exactly german engineering, haha...(I couldn't help it lol) Thanks a lot for the idea. I'll do the same on my E36 which has a storage area with free space underneath there along with the cigarette lighter plug.
Hi, I bought the kit you recommend, but doing tests before install, but after a few minutes it heats up almost to the limit of not being able to take the phone. Do you have this problem? How you solved it. Thanks

Just get a wireless charging mount. Much better than this diy

Wow! Extremely detailed and you're not even a bit lazy!
Use a small rubber grommet to finish the hole drilled for the cord. Should clean it up nicely

You can pull up the center console. And splice it into the pad. Hardwire it
Drop the red or white el wire inside the cup or around the holder and it will make that gap interesting
Well with this tutorial I can do this to any car! Great job, thank you 👍🏻
Thanks, David!

Yeah man!
Why not shave down the cup holder dividers so it still sits flush and hot glue some magnetic strips to the sides of the tray and cup holders
great video , respect from germany
Thanks, Alex! I appreciate the support!
