No choice. It was a huge bet on the future, but Arnold’s the mental aspect failed. Not everyone can handle the pressure. The team can’t sacrifice an entire season waiting on mental maturity of one player. Not ideal, but it is what it is. You’ll have 20% of fan base who won’t budge on Arnold because they will always believe the next game will be his breakout. It looks like the rest, however, have accepted reality.

Right call? Should have made the call 2nd half of the HOUSTON game. Arnold was stinking the place up against HOUSTON. Am I the only one who could look a couple weeks down the road and think, if he looks this bad against Houston, what is Tennessee going to be like? Well, we found out. All I've heard for 2 years is the arm talent of JA. He can make "all the throws". Maybe in high school. The one most important asset for a QB to have is balls. Hawkins seems to have that in spades.

With our crap O'line playing against one of the best Defensive lines, I wouldn't have even thought attempting to run down the middle would have even been part of the game plan. I've seen and heard from a lot of people hating Jackson Arnold and praising Hawkins Jr. Which is justified, but a lot of this is on the OC. Arnold is a more of a mobile QB than Hawkins. OU runs a predominantly passing offense where you don't see a lot of design runs for the QB. Hawkins is a straight up pocket passing QB that can run. This offense is right up his alley. The OC does not use Arnold right at all. Hopefully for Arnold he transfers to a school that uses his skill set better

Yes it was, and it showed once MHJ got comfortable. He was able to makes plays and move the ball. Also showed some toughness, because he got smacked a few times but kept on fighting. Jackson Arnold is not what he was advertised to be. Time to move on. I know the line isn’t what us fans are used to, but Hawkins made things happen with the same line. Also, please make Tatum the main RB. He’s the most physically gifted of all of the backs, and like most backs needs to get into a rhythm. Defensively this team is good, but the offense did them no favors against Tennessee. Get Hawkins acclimated ASAP because it’s a long season and that defense will keep them in games.

Being an Army Combat Veteran and former Army Drill Sergeant…. I have a slightly different perspective. I feel like this is completely coaching related. Mainly talking offense here….But After months and sometimes years with these guys, observing and mentoring through different levels of stress inoculation, you should absolutely Know what you have…each guy’s strengths and weaknesses…and be able to put them in the very best possible position for The TEAM to Succeed!! These coaches have failed to do that, Period!! Jackson has shown a tendency to pick the absolute worst Option, Which Shows that he does not possess an innate ability to analyze defenses quickly enough for the College Game. You can say well he is young etc...I SAID "Innate" ability speed for the college game..can it be developed yes but, there again if it were innate then he could access even more processing power in other area's of the game..limiting floaters, honing missiles that if not caught are becuase they literally bounce of X's Chest....You can say he has only X games under his belt, You can give me 1000 other excuses, I get it.. However critical thinking under extreme direst is a quality that separates 5 Star from Superstar..From what i can tell in Games Arnold's ability to digest voluminous amounts of GAME TIME information is directly proportional to the Points on the board.

I could call a better game than Seth.. I’m willing to bet 60% of OU fans can do just as well. First thing I’d do is start Tatum and Hawkins. Then I’d run two tight ends just about every down. The shotgun formation run up the gut for zero yards isn’t scaring anyone. We became a pass only offense, and that pressure on Arnold wasn’t working. Hawkins is the better qb for an O line that’s struggling. Arnold would thrive if he played any other year at OU. It’s sad really

  • @MidnightWolfSDJ
    @MidnightWolfSDJ Месяц назад +2

The 10-14 points OU needed to tie or even win the game was left on the field when Jackson coughed up the ball near the 5, and that weak backwards pass (debatable about whether it was backwards or not but still such a weak throw). We were on Tennessee’s side of the field for both of those situations and couldn’t even get 3 points. Let’s say you punch it in at the 5 and then the other drive you get stopped so you kick a field goal. That’s your OT opportunity right there. It’s true Hawkins is no Caleb Williams. But he is what we have going forward. I don’t have a problem with Jackson Arnold coming in every once in awhile to change things up and the crowd better not boo him if that happens. I don’t want to be the fanbase that is known for booing their QBs. We need to have better class than that. The time to make it known you don’t want him is write Venables a letter or do something to put the bug in his ear. Booing at a young kid for doing something not even you can do is wrong. I am guilty of Booing Rattler and I regret it. Not because I thought he was good. It’s because it is something that can hurt one’s mental health. Some might view themselves as failures and will for sure resent the program. We need to be better as fans moving forward.

But Hawkins was a 4-star and that's nothing to sneeze at if you're into ratings, so I don't see why ppl seem so hesitant crowning him the future. Tennessee is a run first offense. They threw the ball 11 times in the first half and 10 times in the second half. The only difference was we didn’t give them 5 turnovers in the 2nd half with the best field position imaginable (yes, I’m counting the turnover on downs at midfield on the first possession, and the safety as turnovers).

Poor decision making. Constant turnover on the line. Against Arkansas St, Arnold was operating in a Lebby coached offense. I was no Lebby supporter, but there is a clear drop off in coaching since Lebby left. JA is not set up for success in this offense. Scheme is bad. Play calling is vanilla borderng on procedural. That is why he was pulled. BV said there was no throw option in the play in the postgame presser.
Sucks for Arnold, but I guess he is just seeing ghosts. And if he can't run the play that is called...you gotta bench him. 😮‍💨

JA would’ve done better if we had a decent OL.
He will be in the portal next year. JA will make another team good as long as they have a Ol were he can learn and not have to worry about getting hit on every play
Hawkins jr will be our next quarterback getting tackled on every other play

BV defense has gotten in JH's head. Good on Good is good to a certain extent (sometimes you just need to see the ball go in the net). First, just respect the grind when the defense gifts you the ball, Jackson did not do that. Second, just protect the ball.

OU outscored Tennessee 12-6 in the second half. OU could’ve had 14 points if they weren’t playing catch-up and the analytics game as they went for 2-pt conversions. 3 of Tennessee’s 6 points came on a turnover on downs on the OU 20. The only thing that went well for Tennessee offensively in the first half was the 1 big pass, and otherwise it was the OU offense giving up 5 turnovers (if you count the turnover on downs at midfield and the safety). Hawkins protected the ball and that was the difference in the first half, combined with just his decision making. OU lost the game against a great team, and we now feel better about the offense moving forward. Lots of work to do.

Yes, it is time for Hawkins but people give him a chance as well as Jackson people trying to run him out. Jackson has lost all confidence and making a lot bad and wrong reads. He aims the ball he doesn't even seem to throw the ball well. Give him a chance to get that back we need both guys. Jackson hasn't paid behind a good line including the bowl game. I love both these Quarterbacks Hawkins had run for his life in High School he hasn't had a good line so maybe he is used to it. Hawkins is faster, which gives him more of a chance. The line and blocking are so bad right now. Just watch Okla's breakdown Gabe broke it down. Don't go down that road who did better off-season either. Sharp was supposed to be the next coming. He can't block anyone he drops some balls he ok as a receiver and hopefully gets better. as well as how good some of these portal guys were supposed to be solid to good. That hasn't shown up. Hick's last 2 years suppose to shine he can't even get in a game. Also positive with Hawkins he has been working with the receivers so his chemistry might be better with them. Pettiway will step up i hope Kearney and Ivan do as well we need height out there. Hester needs to show up. the small receivers are getting knocked around off their routes and it messes up the timing. They need out there like 10-15 snaps on setup plays. The play calls need to improve and set up for what the offense can do whether it is blocking or QB. We are injured badly but most of those guys are not coming back. Nick starting over on recovery- Farooq is out for another 4-8 weeks. I doubt Anthony will play again this year. Tatum is out let's save him for Texas Burkes hopefully back in Auburn. Franklin doesn't block in the backfield God we have an issue with Blocking. Now we need to figure out some stuff so we still can have a very good season the Defense is legit. If the Offense just communicates it will improve greatly. BV is mad hopefully he gets everyone on offense whipped into shape and gets them to give us 100 of what they can do we can win with that Great show Guys

  • @shawncontreras

This is my personal opinion but you give up Dylan Gabriel in order to make Jackson Arnold the Star quarterback of your team and then choose to bench in before the half knowing full well that you have no proven playmaker ability other than in practice with Hawkins Junior. And end up DG ends up looking like a Heisman contender one of the most prolific passers this season and you give that guy up in order to bench the guy you replaced him for.. understanding one thing from a coaching perspective you grow through adversity you don't grow through wins you grow through losses big losses, you have to understand how that player or team is going to rally and work hard to get out of the hole that some decisions and broken blocks got them into. He is a phenomenal quarterback, he has to be able to play all four quarters and understand how to rally up and get the team across the finish line. For god sakes you scored 15 points.... You're telling me without Jackson Arnold off the field that was the best opt? I would sit here and say if you left Jackson Arnold in the whole game you'd probably be closer to 25 with his playmaker and his leg skills. But you'll never know cuz you gave up on the Star quarterback of your team.

I agree but you have to learn how to overcome adversity. Look at the rookies in the NFL it's is not looking great for the QBs from the draft but they are giving the ability to learn through the battle, if we were in war how do you build a strategy around loss and avoiding it without understanding what it feels like. How to bounce back? I've been coaching kids in HS for over 12 years. If I pulled a kid for mistakes I would have never had a QB develop into a hardened, football smart kid. By now he is at that hing spot to need the school and team behind JA. All you're doing by dismissing him is making him lose faith around his own team. He has to own the mistakes and learn from them

Arnold is portal bound, his rep is gone with the team and coaches. Bad thing is knowing the SEC like the back of my hand like I do, SEC DC's now that they are game planning for Hawkins, they will shut him down too, he isn't that good to overcome a bad O-line, very average WR core, poor coaching from the top down. BV isn't a HC he is a DC, he is lost. OU is/will in about a month be irrelevant
6-6 team with Hawkins, their outlook is better but not really because knowing he's coming ALA/UT/LSU/OLE MISS/MISSOURI/SOUTH CAROLINA will stop him. Also Tenn didn't show anything against OU to save from being scouted against. Could have beat OU much worse. Heupel much better Head Coach than BV, and infinitely better than Littrell with offense, Littrell is a high school level coach, but blame BV because he hired him, BV is a problem, he is in a place where he isn't competitive with other top-level HC's. Feel bad for kids because feel like they were led to believe it would be better, this getting their butts handed to them WILL CONTINUE, no matter the location. Pull for them still I will, but I have no illusions about how average they are, because they are a 6-6 team.
