      Thank you! Maybe you could try this rom out. working pretty good on the OG Duo, not so much on my Duo 2.

    Thanks for the info and have installed Android 14 on a spare Surface Duo 2. How do I install the updates? Do I place them into the system folder for a fresh instal or can I update from within the Android 14 environment on the Duo? Thanks. Malcolm

      There is an update button in the specialized menu, but I was never able to get them to work. There are instructions on the github, but I followed @scaryifliteral 's videos to update.

    Hi, it's really cool to see that there are still recent posts here, the surface still enchants me to this day, but tell me, in 2024 is the DUO1 still useful? Does the battery still have good performance?

    • @ReviewsforNerds
      @ReviewsforNerds  8 дней назад

      Unfortunately, I said goodbye to my Duo 1 a while ago. I still have my Duo 2. I didnt have issues with battery on either device at the time. The only hesitation I would have in using the Duo in 2024 would be the lack of OS updates. MS is still issuing the security updates for the Duo 2, but I do not believe they are doing so on the OG Duo. That being said, it's a fun device that still gets app store updates, so it could be useful, but not sure I would rely on it as a daily driver.

      @@ReviewsforNerds interesting, I believe that even the duo1 is useful for me because I'm looking for a secondary device to consume media, Internet, read and edit some texts, I don't want a fold as a primary and most tablets have large screens that are impractical for easy transport access

    So I tried it and it has still the problem with the update from the first December that switching from one screen to another leads to the touch device not working anymore.
    I wanted to return to the recovery image from Microsoft, did install it as the Microsoft instructions tell me and .... still got stuck with the Android 14 ROM. Any ideas on how to fix the touch device problem or how to re-install the original ROM?

      It can be super frustrating when things like this happen. I know it's happened to me a few times testing out software. If Microsoft instructions aren't working you can try these. pureinfotech.com/recovery-image-fix-surface-duo/

    On the Surface Duo 2 only issue I have is when folded the black screen still registers touch. And casting butI have Nova launcher installed, call, text, data works better than Microsoft version.

      Yeah, the stock rom is still my go to for the Duo 2 for the touch issue.

    I am looking at your commands..../fastboot delete-logical-partition system_ext_b
    89 What is the 89 for and why is it on a separate line? do I need to include 89? does it go in a separate line or right after b? Thank you for the informative video.

    Do think u can find a way to get frp bypass for the surface duo 2 with the new update??

    • @ReviewsforNerds
      @ReviewsforNerds  7 месяцев назад

      I have never messed with frp bypass. From what I have seen it's always involved sketchy software and a lot of frustration.

    it's cool that people work on projects like this. But I'm not one to always want the latest OS.
    In fact, most operating systems (pc, mac, mobile, etc.) have become bloated and resource hungry for no good reason. they just keep adding useless junk year after year to stay in the public eye.

    • @ReviewsforNerds
      @ReviewsforNerds  7 месяцев назад +2

      True, but (IMHO) the pixel experience is one of the cleanest versions of android out there. The reason for me running these updates is to show that it is possible and to shine a light on Thai's work.

    • @oldplayer8025
      @oldplayer8025 7 месяцев назад +2

      be aware the soon you won't get updates for your apps as well when they move into the new OS (project obsolescence is a marketing scheme)

    • @rokko_hates_japan
      @rokko_hates_japan 7 месяцев назад

      @@oldplayer8025 I've noticed this. Happened a couple of times on ios and android (not as often).
      they make a big change to the OS and that forces all the developers to update their apps. Then if you don't run the latest OS you don't get the latest app update. or even worse, if the app isn't updated but you run the latest OS, suddenly the software you purchased doesn't work anymore.
      bastards.

    When official android 14 will come for surface duo 2

    • @ReviewsforNerds
      @ReviewsforNerds  7 месяцев назад

      unfortunately never. Duo One is EOL and I think all put patch updates for 12L have stopped for both devices. The teams working on Surface duo have been moved to other projects.

    • @ReviewsforNerds

      Not anymore than usual. This project is still kinda beta and I wouldn't recommend for daily driving

    i am already using the 2023.11.30. I did brick my surface duo following your instruction. I end up flashing the old att image. Then unlock the att bootloader and flash the surface duo with 11.30. Its good, but camera need to be improved.

      Glad you were able to get it back up and running. I have had to reinstall the stock rom on several occasions myself.
