For anyone that's on Cubase 13 now. Steinberg actually added "blind buttons" so you don't need to assign dummy buttons. You can just select a blind button and add it.
Honestly Jeff love your work and help but if you made all the maschine scripts and charged something lik 15-20$ i think it would be better for your channel
great video!!!!!! I just made the settings on my mikro, the only thing I don't understand is at the level of the rotary knob (which is different from that of the mk3), how does jef do on the video to create 2 buttons when he only has one cc on editor control that allows it to go right or left??
Actually for the M32 keyboard you have to go into Komplete Kontrol and edit the template by clicking the Midi icon in the top right (M32 does not work with NI Controller Editor).

Managed to get this working for the Maschine Mikro Mk3 - thx Jef and Nico. For Mikro in the controller editor you need to select the pages tab on the right and select Pad Page H in replace of clicking group H button on full Maschine+. Other difference is control knob is not 4D so can only map start/stop and left right. Works perfectly including the ribbon.
Another thing that's good to map - though I guess you don't use it - is step note input. Having to keep clicking on the keyboard to move back and forth and change note length makes it a pain to use with just a basic midi keyboard. But if you have extra buttons you can map, it's almost as good as using maschine itself.
Spectacular video Jef !!! Stop buying one specific controller for one specific DAW...The DAW (as Cubase 12 does now easily), must map, by its software, any controller .
Better late than never....I still use Maschine STUDIO....would it be possible to make a Maschine Studio script for Cubase 12? (or do you know some directions or tutorials how to make it) Thanks for your awesome videos Jef!

Dude you literally saved me from throwing my Maschine Studio away because I could never get it to work properly with Cubase (outside using the Maschine software itself). Now my editing process is how I always dreamed it would be (except for the jog wheel not being able to scroll the cursor around).

Thank you for this helpful Video ,Jef and maybe I can also give a little hint for you and other users here. You put some Buttons on a different channel and on high notes so they wont disturb your workflow. You can set a MIDI FILTER on that MIDI CHANNEL in the Cubase settings so it will not affect anything but the Midi Remote from Cubase. I hope this is helpful. Greetings :o)
Thanks for a great video! However I can't get my Maschine MK3 to work at all in Cubase 12.0.70 Pro. It seems to have to do with the MIDI ports. I created my own surface and set both in and out to "Maschine MK3 Ctrl MIDI" and assign e.g. the rotary knobs then it works. However in your script the input is set to "Maschine MK3 EXT MIDI". I can't find a way to change this....can it be done? Thanks!
Hi Jef, I was wondering if you have tried using Midi Remote with a Streamdeck or LoupeDeck. These streamer controllers make great DAW controllers. They both can send CC control change messages and currently work with the old Cubase generic remote, but I am not sure if the new Midi Remote would see them. BTW my Maschine and Fantom encoders are both jittery in Midi Remote.

I've added several "knobpages" to mine, so that I can also control EQs, send effects, etc. Unfortunately, I haven't found a solution to the problem with parameter jumps when using the machine plus knobs? Do you have a solution for this now? That would make me very happy!
This is truly impressive! I can't imagine the amount of work and discovery it took for you and Nico to develope this. I learned a TON just following the logic and better understanding how the midi controller function works in C12. GREAT JOB!!

Hi Jef. I may have missed it but what is the equivalent for note repeat? My old Akai mpd 226 was automatically set to be able to do note repeat for 8ths, 16ths, 32nds, and triplets but I'm not sure how to do that with maschine and I didn't see that in your video (unless I missed it.) Can you have a comprehensive control over a VST orchestra with that ? eg Iconica of some Spitfire. Maybe a dedicated video about that would be amazing !
hey first of thanks for the guide it gave great insight in what you can do with the maschina, second i was wondering. while in midi mode if you use the notes as toggle buttons does it keep playing a toggled note if you switch to another pad-page? and if you switch back to the first pad-page will the toggled note still be lit up as playing?
Hello. Something I haven't understood is if Midi remote is going to be able to talk back to the controller to report the actual position of some knob in the VSTi so the rotary encoder doesn't make the parameter to jump as soon as you touch it?

Absolutely amazing video. Cubase and NI should both link to this on their pages. Essential for all Mashine owners. One question: Did your or Nico ever figure out how to use the shift as a modifier to double up the functionality of any of the buttons?
@@jefgibbons Very true! I found a way to emulate the shift behavior using pages. After completely setting up my main page, in Cubase, I clicked the cog just above the "Mappings" heading and clicked "Duplicate page". I then renamed it "Shift". On the main page (default), I mapped the button right above "Shift" (on the Maschine Mikro Mk3 that's "Follow Grid") to "Mapping Page Actions -> Next Mapping Page". On the "Shift" mapping page, I mapped that button to "Mapping Page Actions -> Previous Mapping Page". Then I changed the any of the mappings on the "Shift" page to their alternate behavior. Drawbacks: it acts more like a toggle than a true shift key (kinda like CapsLock) and that command does not send MIDI to set the button to being lit, so I can't replicate the behavior we get on solo, mute, play, etc. I have to find a way to indicate that "shift" is on....

Hey Sam! I've been wracking my brain trying to sort that one out... there's no scale mode via Maschine so it would have to be a way to make a chromatic scale=a major or minor scale... not sure if that's possible!

@@FRANKRICECOLD209 Steinberg still supports VST2, but within 24 month from january this year, Steinberg's host applications and plug-ins will offer VST 3 compatibility only. I belieive that all the big software vendors will have VST 3 support by that time.

Abot the Midi Remote problem with endless Rotaryencoders. I have the same issues like Jeff. If I assign the endless encoder of the maschine MK3 or Maschine plus via Midi remote, for example, the focus Quick Controls then provokes regulator jumps. It partially reminds of a midifeedback. I point out the Quick Kontrols via Legacy Track Quick and VST Quick then everything runs fine without controlling jumps. Oh in MCU mode or as a generic controler, the endless coders work fine. The problems have only been introduced and only with the new MIDI remote.
This is great Jef. I have always wanted something like this on Cubase as I use ReaLearn (allows for really advanced customisation) or DrivenByMoss (all pre set up for you, so even easier) on Reaper that allows you to do the same thing. This will give me the push to install Cubase 12!
What happens if I forget to complete the first step of NI controller setup where I'm supposed to create a new template to save the original configuration? I can't get the maschine MK3 to do anything now but act as a midi controller :(
Thanks for the great video! It really was super helpful! I've got a question for you... Do you have any idea of how one could map an actual key on the keyboard to a MIDI controller? It's super straight-forward for mapping key-commands and certain transport controls but I can't for the life of me, figure out how to map a key. I'd like to set the "Command" "Option" "shift" and "Control" Keys to buttons on my controller so I can use the "hold down" functions without always needing to reach for my keyboard. I've asked in the forums but no one seems to know how to do it. Thanks again for the awesome content!
This is a really great, extremely helpful video. I got my Maschine Mk2, as well as a couple of other controllers, all setup fine in Cubase 13 after watching this. The MIDI Remote is a HUGE IMPROVEMENT over the old Generic Remote! One unfortunate thing is the the bug mentioned at end (endless encoders / jittery Quick Controls) still persists in Cubase 13.
Great video, but I feel overwhelmed trying to get things to work together. I have a Roland (Fantom)Fa-06 which I have been using as my midi controller into Cubase 12. I also have two other synths, a Yamaha MM6, and a Korg m50 (which has great sounds!). I have a TCHelicon Voicelive 3 which I use for electric guitar and a Alexis SR18 drum machine. I had all my audio Physical outputs going to my Mackie Pro Mixer which inputs into my UR44c interface. Now I’m trying to add Maschine MK3. I want to be able to input from my Fa-06 and play my other synths through it using midi and use the Maschine as my main controller to switch back and forth to make beats, use the NI plugins, and quick recording and editing. I unplugged the usb of my Fa-06 and did the in and out of the fa-06 to Maschine. Now every note I play on the Fa-06 is also played on the Maschine…to whatever is loaded there. I know this is a routing midi issue, but I’m not sure how to get it all synced. Also, I’ve been scouring RUclips and haven’t found a great videos about how to get around Maschine, physical connections, and how to load scripts into Cubase to get Cubase to recognize the scripts….sorry for the rant, but some feedback (help) would be great!

Just worked through setting up my Maschine mk3, next job Maschine Jam, then to try for a better result, with ALL the buttons working, with my Komplete Kontrol S61 mk2, though will have to have a look in the manual for that I think because it doesn't use the NI MIDI controller software like the Maschine and Jam do. Thank you again for all your videos, I'm learning loads from you, much appreciated.
WoW, Now I am really regretting selling my Maschine mk2 and Buying a Ableton Push 2. I really wish Ableton would open up their API so we can do something like this with Cubase 12 for the Push 2. Great Tutorial!!

6:50 I just went through this exact issue setting up my DeepMind 12 because my pitchbend wheel was constantly sending MIDI without me touching it at all. Try recalibrating your controller. That's what finally fixed the issue for me. Cheers!
The "glitch" you noticed on turning knobs could be fixed by changing the Channels or changing 'Relative' to 'Absolute'. On my Arturia Mk2 it's solved by changing Channel to Keyboard mode in Control Center.
Credit to you Guy's. I've spent many hours trying to get Machine working with Cubase....Midi setup perfectly now. 👍🏼 Plz do a video on how to setup Machine as a vst instrument with Cubase 12. While still able to use the Machine as midi with Cubase as you've just shown us... When I open machine as a vst, My maschine (All buttons are not working with the software but working with Cubase still)

This will be very handy....I setup a multi page OSC using open stage control on my fire tablet but I don't always have it in the room with me. Since the MK3 is always in front of me, I can set it up and use it like you do. Not sure why I didn't do that when I did the control for my tablet (that sucker was a lot of work with a ton of commands, mixer controls, fader controls per track, etc.)
Man, what I'd give to have someone convert one of these templates to MK1. I should probably just let it go at this point but it's hard to let go of older gear when it still works.

Looks like Steinberg have answered your call and added a horizontal fader type. On the left hand side, under the fader selector are two buttons which toggle between vertical or horizontal.

Thanks for this video! The "glitchy" behavior looks a problem in Maschine. On my Komplete Kontrol I've to setup the knobs to 14bit and to NRPN in the Komplete Kontrol editor. This didn't work with the Maschine endless encoders. The tip with the AI knob is great!
Great video as always bro! I have a question for ya, hope you can help me. I'm trying to use bassline generator inside maschine with the reason rack plugin, but i just can't figure out how to route the midi out signal of the player , to another sound nor group to receive that midi information to the vst i want. I'm only able to play vst´s from the same reason rack plugin, only reason instruments of course. Anyways, is there a way to do that in Maschine?? Comprehensive review and Cubase brought it with that feature! I would assign Beat Designer to the “Step” button. Have you found a set fader to zero function in Cubase?
@@jefgibbons Hmmm.... So I proceeded through octaves with no success. I then closed cubase pro & reopened cubase and the project. The metering shows MIDI input but the pads in Groove Agent aren't firing. However, using the mouse, the pads on Groove Agent fire properly, and sound does come out. So, I then opened a brand new project (just in case I had something muted or a setting I wasn't aware of). In case I was confused, I should be using the "Maschine MK3" input (not the virtual), correct? (Though I have alternated between both, just in case).
Jef what a great tutorial and I have now completed my own template which I like in Cubase, but yours has influenced it a lot as you had so many goods ideas there and it was an excellent learning experience as well, keep up the good work.
i use 32c 7 as well...l;ove the software....i didn't know there's a script on maschine mk3 for controlling.....can you let me know where how i can find this information?
@@dkkrecords just now saw this but in the controller editor, make sure you're on the Mackie control template. then in Mixbus go to control surfaces under the preferences. check the enable box next to Mackie, then double click it to open protocol settings. there will be 2 menus. surface sends via and surface receives via. select your Maschine and you should be good to go

What I missed from your video is the drag and drop audio and midi to your DAW. Maschine V2.17 is asking to adjust the audio to the DAW Tempo.

Update 2023: "nudge cursor left/right" doesn't work well and does not follow with adapt to zoom. It moves, but only strange imprecise amounts.

After completely setting up my main page, in Cubase, I clicked the cog just above the "Mappings" heading and clicked "Duplicate page". I then renamed it "Shift". On the main page (default), I mapped the button right above "Shift" (on the Maschine Mikro Mk3 that's "Follow Grid") to "Mapping Page Actions -> Next Mapping Page". On the "Shift" mapping page, I mapped that button to "Mapping Page Actions -> Previous Mapping Page". Then I changed the any of the mappings on the "Shift" page to their alternate behavior. Drawbacks: it acts more like a toggle than a true shift key (kinda like CapsLock) and that command does not send MIDI to set the button to being lit, so I can't replicate the behavior we get on solo, mute, play, etc. I have to find a way to indicate that "shift" is on....
@@kenvives Wow. This is cool. I'm on the AKAI MPC Studio 2 but this helped. Now I just need a way to map 12 pads to play 12 notes and have some go an octave, and I'll be all set. Do you have an idea on how to map the drum pads to play 12 semitones?
Endlich mal eine richtig gute Umsetzung. Native Instruments müsste einfach mit einer DAW, ob Ableton, Cubase oder Logic zusammenarbeiten. Die Maschine Software ist dagegen echt nur kompliziert und aufwendig. Danke für das Video!

Hey Sam! I've been wracking my brain trying to sort that one out... there's no scale mode via Maschine so it would have to be a way to make a chromatic scale=a major or minor scale... not sure if that's possible!

@@FRANKRICECOLD209 Steinberg still supports VST2, but within 24 month from january this year, Steinberg's host applications and plug-ins will offer VST 3 compatibility only. I belieive that all the big software vendors will have VST 3 support by that time.

Abot the Midi Remote problem with endless Rotaryencoders. I have the same issues like Jeff. If I assign the endless encoder of the maschine MK3 or Maschine plus via Midi remote, for example, the focus Quick Controls then provokes regulator jumps. It partially reminds of a midifeedback. I point out the Quick Kontrols via Legacy Track Quick and VST Quick then everything runs fine without controlling jumps. Oh in MCU mode or as a generic controler, the endless coders work fine. The problems have only been introduced and only with the new MIDI remote.

This is great Jef. I have always wanted something like this on Cubase as I use ReaLearn (allows for really advanced customisation) or DrivenByMoss (all pre set up for you, so even easier) on Reaper that allows you to do the same thing. This will give me the push to install Cubase 12!

Thanks for the great video! It really was super helpful! I've got a question for you... Do you have any idea of how one could map an actual key on the keyboard to a MIDI controller? It's super straight-forward for mapping key-commands and certain transport controls but I can't for the life of me, figure out how to map a key. I'd like to set the "Command" "Option" "shift" and "Control" Keys to buttons on my controller so I can use the "hold down" functions without always needing to reach for my keyboard. I've asked in the forums but no one seems to know how to do it. Thanks again for the awesome content!

This is a really great, extremely helpful video. I got my Maschine Mk2, as well as a couple of other controllers, all setup fine in Cubase 13 after watching this. The MIDI Remote is a HUGE IMPROVEMENT over the old Generic Remote! One unfortunate thing is the the bug mentioned at end (endless encoders / jittery Quick Controls) still persists in Cubase 13.
Great video, but I feel overwhelmed trying to get things to work together. I have a Roland (Fantom)Fa-06 which I have been using as my midi controller into Cubase 12. I also have two other synths, a Yamaha MM6, and a Korg m50 (which has great sounds!). I have a TCHelicon Voicelive 3 which I use for electric guitar and a Alexis SR18 drum machine. I had all my audio Physical outputs going to my Mackie Pro Mixer which inputs into my UR44c interface. Now I’m trying to add Maschine MK3. I want to be able to input from my Fa-06 and play my other synths through it using midi and use the Maschine as my main controller to switch back and forth to make beats, use the NI plugins, and quick recording and editing. I unplugged the usb of my Fa-06 and did the in and out of the fa-06 to Maschine. Now every note I play on the Fa-06 is also played on the Maschine…to whatever is loaded there. I know this is a routing midi issue, but I’m not sure how to get it all synced. Also, I’ve been scouring RUclips and haven’t found a great videos about how to get around Maschine, physical connections, and how to load scripts into Cubase to get Cubase to recognize the scripts….sorry for the rant, but some feedback (help) would be great!
Brilliant video, thank you Jef, thank you Nico. Just worked through setting up my Maschine mk3, next job Maschine Jam, then to try for a better result, with ALL the buttons working, with my Komplete Kontrol S61 mk2, though will have to have a look in the manual for that I think because it doesn't use the NI MIDI controller software like the Maschine and Jam do.

WoW, Now I am really regretting selling my Maschine mk2 and Buying a Ableton Push 2. I really wish Ableton would open up their API so we can do something like this with Cubase 12 for the Push 2. Great Tutorial!!

The midi remote does not work with my M Audio AXIOM 61 controller ive tried everything and it DOES NOT WORK
6:50 I just went through this exact issue setting up my DeepMind 12 because my pitchbend wheel was constantly sending MIDI without me touching it at all. Try recalibrating your controller. That's what finally fixed the issue for me. Cheers!
The "glitch" you noticed on turning knobs could be fixed by changing the Channels or changing 'Relative' to 'Absolute'. On my Arturia Mk2 it's solved by changing Channel to Keyboard mode in Control Center.

This will be very handy....I setup a multi page OSC using open stage control on my fire tablet but I don't always have it in the room with me. Since the MK3 is always in front of me, I can set it up and use it like you do. Not sure why I didn't do that when I did the control for my tablet (that sucker was a lot of work with a ton of commands, mixer controls, fader controls per track, etc.)

Looks like Steinberg have answered your call and added a horizontal fader type. On the left hand side, under the fader selector are two buttons which toggle between vertical or horizontal.

Thanks for this video! The "glitchy" behavior looks a problem in Maschine. On my Komplete Kontrol I've to setup the knobs to 14bit and to NRPN in the Komplete Kontrol editor. This didn't work with the Maschine endless encoders. The tip with the AI knob is great!

I'm trying to use bassline generator inside maschine with the reason rack plugin, but i just can't figure out how to route the midi out signal of the player , to another sound nor group to receive that midi information to the vst i want. I'm only able to play vst´s from the same reason rack plugin, only reason instruments of course. Anyways, is there a way to do that in Maschine?? For some reason, I can't get "Groove Agent" to trigger with this (running within Cubase). Please advise.
Try all of the A-H pads, you’re probably on the wrong octave (I think it’s those pads from my memory…)
@@jefgibbons Hmmm.... So I proceeded through octaves with no success.
I then closed cubase pro & reopened cubase and the project. The metering shows MIDI input but the pads in Groove Agent aren't firing. However, using the mouse, the pads on Groove Agent fire properly, and sound does come out.
So, I then opened a brand new project (just in case I had something muted or a setting I wasn't aware of).
In case I was confused, I should be using the "Maschine MK3" input (not the virtual), correct?
(Though I have alternated between both, just in case).
I'd like to map 12 keypads to play notes and then have two buttons that go an octave, is there a way I can do this?

Jef what a great tutorial and I have now completed my own template which I like in Cubase, but yours has influenced it a lot as you had so many goods ideas there and it was an excellent learning experience as well, keep up the good work.

i use 32c 7 as well...l;ove the software....i didn't know there's a script on maschine mk3 for controlling.....can you let me know where how i can find this information?
@@dkkrecords just now saw this but in the controller editor, make sure you're on the Mackie control template. then in Mixbus go to control surfaces under the preferences. check the enable box next to Mackie, then double click it to open protocol settings. there will be 2 menus. surface sends via and surface receives via. select your Maschine and you should be good to go
