I just found this channel and I was hooked within the first 2 minutes. Thank you for believing in black people and our ability to life ourselves up. Love this!!!!
This man is an inspiration. I can listen to him for hours. Thank you so much for bringing him to the program. There definitely needs to be a Part 2 - 37 min is too short for Glenn. He is such a powerful voice and is definitely someone we all can learn from. Hope you have him back soon.
“I am ready to go run 4 miles and I don’t even run!” I just laughed so hard I almost choked on my soup. Glenn Loury would have been a great general. He would have had guys running through brick buildings.
Glenn Loury is a very impressive thinker and communicator. I can listen to him for hours without getting bored--interesting ideas just flow ceaselessly from this talented mind. Thanks for presenting this interview.
Listening to Glenn's story and bio, one realizes that there is NO excuse for those who choose crime, drugs, and lawlessness. Look at how hard Glenn worked - that's all it takes. It's not pleasant in the short term, but it's the only right way. Like Larry Elder says, "Hard Work Wins.".
In other words, Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me. Give a man a fish, he eats for a day, teach A man to fish and he’ll feed himself for a lifetime. Have faith in yourself when no one else does.
I wish somehow these men could be accessible to young people when they are seeking role models. Somehow, this is the only cohort not represented in commercials, when touting goods and services. I think it tells us much about today's "media" and political class.
What Glenn Loury says is basic common sense (which is remarkably uncommon these days). I don't know anyone who has succeeded in anything without putting in a lot of effort. Those who get lucky early on who did not put out effort eventually end up at the bottom of the pile. This is the way of life.

Folks might say, fine Glenn, you are smarter and more driven than most people. So you "happened" to get to where the rest of us will never arrive. But that's not the point. We are all capable of more. Excuses we make for ourselves are not going to get us anywhere worth going. Waiting for help from the government won't cut it. Hard work and good decisions may not land everyone in positions equivalent to Professor at Brown University. However, they will get us where our natural gifts and hard work can take us.
19:20 Why are black people not taking pride at doing it for themselves? Maybe it is really much broader than that. You talk about working for RJ Donnely Printing. So many jobs have gone over seas. We can't compete against the cheap labor in China and Bangladesh. The jobs that allowed people to take pride and control their own trajectory are being squeezed out of the country. And the possibility to work your way through college is long in the rear view mirror. The prices now are crazy. The young people of today do not have the opportunities that used to abound.
It’s interesting to me that you comment on his appearance after sitting through 37 minutes of profound analysis of what’s ailing our country. and personal responsibility. Do you have Any thoughts or ideas on the gratifying and contagious examples Dr Loury shared
@@nancy6487 Well, it's your country, not mine. Apparently, it's a country where people like you prefer to spend time and energy to be outraged like a panicked chicken by an innocuous comment, rather than doing something more worthy and useful. his gives me an idea of what you consider your personal responsibility and gratifying and contagious examples. So, my comment on your country is that, if all Americans are like you, your country is doomed.
@@nancy6487 this is a rather ridiculous way to exercise your personal responsibility. Perhaps the problem of your country, not mine, is that it has too many pompous people like you, who have apparently nothing better to do than replying to an innocuous comment . Loury must be very disappointed in you.
Ok, I watch every interview with Glenn. Always waiting for one of his brilliant rants! He is a wise man and has much to teach all of us.
Love people who followed and exhibit their passion as Glenn does, not a perfect Harvard articulation but a true and unique person.
Same. I just love him!
When his voice goes up a few octaves, watch out!
Glenn is a gift, I cannot quantify his impact on my intellectual life, as they are so immense.

The best quote ever uttered by Glenn Loury:
“Nobody’s coming to save you from the fried chicken”.
Glenn is in a class if his own, how lucky are we to listen to him for free

Amen
I had no idea about Glenn's background before watching this video. My respect for him could not be higher

I never thought of that but you're absolutely right. haha
Just discovered this podcast, saw a lot of debates with Glenn Loury and sometimes saw Ian there as well. Going to follow this one, all great guys!

Glenn is a future Nobel Laureate
Glenn Louth is a legend! What a powerful life story

I did 16 years in night school with 0 kids at the start and 4 at the end, working 7 days a week a lot of the year, and managed a BSEE.
You're also an inspiration.
@@47Yeoman Thanks, that's nice of you to say.
Thanks all three of you for your work , your intelligent thoughts ... and god bless you , may you inspire more folks to be like you ...
This is a fantastic discission. Thanks for bringing a much needed perspective to light!
Uncle Mooney's comment was hilarious! So pithy. Sure wish this podcast were longer. Glenn is a salve for the soul and psyche.
Glenn is a great human being!
I tear up whenever I hear stories about people who lookup to their fathers, Glen and Larry Elders....
So good!
This is fantastic, I shared it with Tulsi Gabard on locals.
This is very inspirational! Thank you all for inspiring everyone to do the best they can be!

We need to hear more from all 3 of these men.

OH, Daryl! please read! Read good magazines to start, then read great books!
I call Kendi, Malcom Z. He's such an embarrassment to black intellectuals.
Kendi's a good writer. A shame that he's considered a sage.
I've never bumped into a black person who was 'waiting for reparations'. 😂
I know a handful who have explicitly demanded it. I avoid those kinds of conversations.

It is hard but doable. My kids are working their way through the University. It takes sacrifice. But it is possible.
It’s going to get worse now w Beijing Biden , and open borders
he wasn't talking about "grit" when his ass was in the nuthouse,m unless he was asking for "grits" instead of the clabber they fed him.
