eople who give up are the people who lose in life, my first experience happens to be failure but I never gave up cause I knew it was going to work out for me trying continuously, fortunately I'm smiling today by getting involved with 👇🏻 instagram.com/fx_jake_smithn?igshid=gyjf5u083x87
I knew listening to Prof. Loury's clear voice of reason would be a bliss as always, but the onslaught of ads undoubtedly sends a lot of people running away from this valuable conversation...
Reparations is a tough issue, and it's easy to understand both sides, but it's clear that Prof. Loury is the most sophisticated thinker here, and really the person most interested in concrete results that will make the world a better place, as opposed to impractical symbolic reckoning.
No problem professor Loury put more emphasis on the sensitivity of white people than the issue at hand. Which is totally understandable, it’s also in his own class interests to take such positions.
Professors Andrews and Frank speak the real truth for the betterment of humanity. Yes there should be compensation for the slavery, racism and discrimination that exists now and every day in America,Europe and this world today. The Catholic and Protestant christian churches as well as the banks should be amongst the first to pay compensation to the decendents of slaves living in the west for there barbaric crimes in the African slavery.
Katherine Frank is lost in literary verbosity, thinks it's logic. We need to *disgorge* our whiteness (20:20)? Professor, if I have "whiteness" now, I'm going to still have it tomorrow however much of it I can _disgorge_ today. I notice that Professor Loury is the only quantitative person on that panel. I trust him more than social theorists of any stripe.
It's so crazy to watch this woman in real time talk about how glenn's life should have been completely dictated by his circumstances vis a vis his south side zipcode. Even more amazing how measured his response is...
Andrews claims the uk black wealth gap comes from slavery but most black British arrived as free citizens. There are almost no descents of slaves. The huge somali population are not slave descended and yet are poor, so now does he explain that?
And yet, since West African immigrants and their descendants are doing better than the Somalis, young British Blacks are at the same socioeconomic level as young British whites.
Logic is whiteness and a white sociocultural construct. Yep, you know life is going pretty good when a professor at BCU a 10tier university at best, is being elevated intellectually to the same status as Glen Loury, professor of Social sciences at Brown university , with a BA in Mathematics from North Western and phd in Econometrics from MIT. Basically black privilege!! The whole conversation is borderline ridiculous 🧮
Noooooooo.....if we accept reparations then MOST nations/races should pay reparations to some other nation/race!!! I love how “scholars” forget to think about counter-factionals and consequences of such decisions .
Let me see if I understand the argument correctly. Racism is persistent well after slavery and it manifests itself, not only in the vast differences in wealth between white and black people, but also in the opportunities between the populations and we need to do some sort of corrective action to reduce or even eliminate those gaps. Glenn Loury contends that reparations will create a further divide among the groups that will last for years or perhaps even decades, and offers solutions that will build a coalition between the two and help lift those less fortunate thereby reducing the gaps. And the response between the other two is that it doesn't solve racism nor does it acknowledge the atrocity of slavery. Is it just me or does that just tell you that the other two panelists aren't really concerned with alleviating the gaps, they are only interested in white people paying punitive damages. I don't know if reparations are the answer but that just seems like they are only looking in the rearview and aren't forward thinking at all. Perhaps I'm wrong, but that's what I got out of this conversation.
Fascinating point made by Dr. Kehinde Andrews on the bank of London paying the debt service of slave owners up until 2015. Wow, if "colonizers" would have kept to giving the 40 acres and the mule concept to enslaved people we would not be having this conversation.
He makes case that the Jew received reparations but that was in their lifetime. We are generations removed from slavery and a LOT of people came here after slavery ended. Also, only a fraction of southerners had slaves and they were not all white. Anything paid by the government is coming from taxpayers, most of which did not have slave owning ancestors. That money was earned in confederate money, so pay it back in confederate money.
Anyone studying black studies at BCU in England, is already intellectually at a loss. 1) Their at BCU paying £9250 a year, for 3 or 4 year degree in black studies. 2) Their studying a non subject at BCU, that will only strengthen their socioeconomic disadvantage narrative in a highly competitive job market. 3) It reinforces the argument/data, that says many black students are not ready or being advised not to take the difficult stem subjects needed to advance and understand in the modern world. 🧮
Loury was not given the opportunity, though if he were, he would have dismantled every single position taken on this panel. What a waste. Such rhetoric and emotionalism provided here.
Reparations may be due, but a condition needs to be attached to any such initiative amounting to a public acknowledgement of the duty to mitigate on the part of Black people. I suspect MLK understood this, and Loury does, but it is not in the mainstream discourse - in fact it is studiously avoided.
Reparations rests on the premise that former slaves would have created and passed down their wealth over the generations right up to present day. Inheritance is not a guarantee.
Let's be honest, if blacks received $4 trillion we would end up seeing Dave Chappelle's skit come to life. That money would not create wealth primarily, not at all and we know it.
I find this 'racial wealth gap' talk supremely pretentious. I'm white so I'm wealthy huh? So whereT.F. is the cash then..... cause I'm looking at my bank account and I don't see it.
Loury's arguments were completely dismantled in this video. his takes are very childish in my opinion. None of his claims have any evidence and when asked for it he either brings up his feelings on the subject or just doesnt present them. Yes you can blame the condition of black americans on slavery and continued racism. Loury talks often of culture being to blame and fatherless homes. Where does culture come from? Culture is built in response to your environment. The ruling class did everything they could to harm any positive movement within the black community. Malcolm X encouraged black fatherhood and emphasized family structures as well as anti drug and crime stances. He was killed by the american government. marcus garvey encouraged black entrepreneurship and his businesses were sabotaged and he died poor. All of our back leaders systematically dismantled. White supremacy attacks our culture and has never stopped. Mass incarceration locking up millions of black fathers for non violent crimes just trying to find a way to feed their children and communities after jobs and opportunities were systematically taken from them. Yes there is some blame for black people but when you havent been in control of your own destiny for hundreds of years how much blame can you really take?
Glenn Loury was a model of patience here
Loury is an intellectual titan.
Glenn Loury was the clearest voice of reason here
Pls prove it using algebra
Sington Clearest voice( Cv) = {x| x ∈ of black studies, Black studies

This lady is a prime example of what Shelby Steele talks about.
Glen for the win
Glenn the voice of reason as always

Glenn always makes sense. I wish McWhorter was on the panel, but at least they found someone that favors him to sit in as click-bait.
The doctor is in!!! Thanks for dishing out truth Dr. Loury!
Be nice to listen without interruptions every few minutes for an advert
Thomas Sowell had been a good choice here. He pointed it all out yrs ago.
Oh boy. Two idiots versus one of our finest in this country, Glenn Loury. The contrast is painful.
Yeah we would like to hear more from Glenn Loury please
Kehendi with a "Black Marxism" book behind him. Makes sense.
exactly...
I wish I could speak as eloquently and clear as Dr. Loury does.
2 on 1 but if anyone could deliver a knockout it’s Glenn. Looking forward to this.
TEAM GLENN!!!!
Add frequency is brutal here.
I wonder how they would define the class receiving reparations if it's not payments to individuals?
People alive today are not responsible for the actions of their ancestors. Nor are they entitled to compensation owed to their ancestors.
A legal issue? Explain to me why someone who never had a crime committed against them is entitled to an award.

Should rich people pay reparations to the working class?
No 🤣
It is not the result of privilege. It is the results of progress.

The number of adds on this video disgusts me.

Lol. Dr. Loury must have sent his fans to this video to give glowing feedback about him and him only.
I see he is an economist but didn't give any economic advice or solutions to the wealth gap issue.
He has an anti-black agenda that no one has called out.
He said White people will be resentful by helping black people.
Therefore we shouldn't help black people.
That is top notch PhD level economics advice. 👌
Effort is not distributed equally, why should income be.
18:00 reactionary right
Ah Katherine our white Savior.

It's about the wealth gap we'll deal with all that discrimination stuff after the government pay for the crimes against humanity
