I hope Tobey Maguire knows just how big of a role he played, not only in Spider-man but in the comic book community as a whole, it's him and Sam Raimi who are to thank for essentially the birth of the MCU and the inspiration to filmmakers everywhere who have made excellent comic book movies, an entire generation of fans, actors and filmmakers alike are standing on their shoulders and if I have an inspiration, it would have to be Sam Raimi for reinforcing the message that was in the comics from the beginning and exists with the character even today that anyone can be Spider-man and that it's about doing the right thing, that's why I consider the Raimi trilogy the best series of comic book movies of all time and Raimi himself as one of the best filmmakers of all time

He still made a great film with it. SM4 and possibly 5 are the real casualties of the Sony interference.

That’s a pretty stupid assessment by WB, Tim Burton had only directed 2 films before Batman ( I really don’t count Frankenweenie or Vincent being they were just shorts) and wasn’t even really a fan of comics.

The reason why the original trilogy and TASM1 were memorable, was because of the producer LAURA ZISKIN
It was because of her and her husband (the screenwriter Alvin Sargent) that the movies had depth
Unfortunately, she died in 2011, during the production of TASM1
Without her, there was no one to stop AVI ARAD from destroying the franchise

Sam hadn’t made the movies Oscar nominees and winners yet. After a director does that, it’s usually when producers start getting cocky and thinking they know better.
With all the goofy stuff I still find Spiderman 3 to be quite good considering today's standards of films, I never hated it anyways, you're right though in a sense the movie would've likely been infinitely better had that guy not pushed for something other than Raimi's vision

I actually disagree with this take. His (Willem Dafoe) natural face is much more menacing and actually allows you to see his facial expressions. Even Willem Dafoe himself said that wearing a mask made it much more difficult for him to act and emote.
