  • I have a confession - this is my first time installing sex bolts on a skateboard! Yeah, it's probably obvious, and I should have practiced on an old deck, but I was feeling confident and just went for it. Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes and if you're an expert at sex bolting, please drop a comment and let me know best practices for success!

    Heyyyy this is awesome info! I love rails and I really like the idea of super-locking them to the deck. Awesome video!

    I agree with you Nate! The sex bolts seem to have a better feel rather that the standard wood screws... A long time ago on my schmitt stix monty nolder back in 1988 I had what was similar to the sex bolts for my rails..

      Oh wow, that Nolder deck was so sweet! Any chance you still have it?

  • @MFXdump
    @MFXdump Год назад +2

    In my experience Wood screws would always work themselves out because of the flex of the deck. I liked the slick bottom plastic coated boards when those came out.

      @GeezerSkateCo  Год назад +1

      Oh yeah, the slick bottom decks were great! I still have 2 from the early 90s, but they are trashed! Which slicks did you have?

    Did you say Rad Railz?!
    I'll be using sex bolts next time I buy a new nose bone, which will be never 😆 but Rad Railz sounds like great company and I will use their product with standard screws.

    • @GeezerSkateCo
      @GeezerSkateCo  2 года назад

      Haha - do it! Get that nose bone! I’d love to get one, but none of the decks I’m riding have a rounded nose that they would fit. What would you put it on?

  • @renheitman
    @renheitman 2 года назад +3

    Always wanted to use these but was entirely convinced I would mess up my board. I've been known to do pretty messy with putting on my tail guards. Takes MANY mess ups for me to get it right. This would probably save the trouble!

    Do very small pilot holes make sure your drill bits are sharp as new first drill your pilot hole from the bottom then drill the second hole from the top just in case you would get a slight chip the rail will be covering it

      Yes you can - they may go by a different name, such as Mating Bolts, Chicago Bolts, Binding Bolts, etc. They should be found at Lowe’s, Home Depot, Ace or a local hardware store. Good luck!

    • @rtornellort
      @rtornellort 2 года назад +2

      @@GeezerSkateCo He's right. I used them all through the 80's and after a bunch of boardslides the hole gets bigger from the stress and they loosen and rattle. Better to make a small pilot hole and use the wood screws.

    • @bootyerbutt
      @bootyerbutt Год назад

      I started skating in late 85. I had probably a dozen decks with rails and many with tail bones. Every single one back then used the sex nuts or P&P brand rat nuts to secure the rails and other plastics. Countless rail slides on curbs, coping etc and never ever had any rattle loose, EVER. It's not rocket science the drill hole needs to be the exact size of the female sex bolt. Sometimes I'd have to gently tap them into the deck because of being snug. I recently unearthed all of my old decks at my mom's house. I removed the rails and sex bolts to save the hardware. On all of the decks I had to use a small punch and hammer to tap out the female portion of the bolt because they were so snug in the deck even after all these years. I suspect if you or anyone had "rattle " issues you initially drilled a hole that was too big.
      edit: For the life of me I can't understand why any of these rail manufacturers would use wood screws. It's like they went backwards with their engineering lol. Anyone would know the force against a rail doing a rail slide on any hard surface would rip the wood screws right out.
