Tim, I 'm gonna buy a new rig for my local great river, fishes are 1-3lb,1ft wading, and need for constantly 80ft distance. One choice is the ECHO OHS(single hand spey)4wt 10’4 switch rod, cast with double haul or double handed mode, another choice is 3wt or 4wt 11’ trout spey rod, heads may be 240-270 grain,23' or 26’ scandi head like SA Spey Lite and Airflo Rage, and Airflo Scout skagit head .Which one could cast a better distance and keep the fun of fighting fish? Being grateful and looking foward to your recommandation.

do you think there is a standard overhang ratio based on the characteristics of the rod, i.e. length and line weight?

There might be but there are so many variables it’s almost impossible to quantify. Best to fly by the seat of your pants 🔥👊
