Love, love the detailing you take with your own machine and how clean you keep it. Excellent teaching video, and I'm a retired teacher doing her own work on my mowers now. Thank you so much!

Hi David, thank you so much for your video. Hoping you can help me on my question. Last year, I bought a GCV160 mower at a geat price. Now I knw why. It worked when I bought it. It started to slow down on the Revs when I first used it and sounded choked. So, I fell in the trap of buying the Amazon carburettor. It didn't work. So, to my question. With my model & serial #'s where can I locate the exact correct Carb ? I have a GCV160LA0 S3A NH1 GJARA 3218705 . Mine doesn't appear to have all the bells and whistles that you had on yours, but it may have and the guy didn't put all the parts back!!! Help.

      This was a fun one.
      Thank you for asking.
According to my Honda Shop Manual, which you can get on line for $40 or so, you will need Honda Part Number 16100-Z8B-851, Description CARBURETOR ASSY. (BB65U A), Serial Range 3151055 - 9999999. There are several Honda Parts dealers around, I saw this carb at geraldjoneshonda.powerdealer.honda.com for $18.83. Now you need to add S&H and tax if applicable.
There are other Honda dealers, PropartsDirect, Boats.net is a good one, Heartland Honda and others.
Be sure to check everything before ordering to make sure nothing else is damaged or missing.
Also check the tank as mine has an internal screen and you may have to back flush the tank in order to clean the screen. Use fresh 93 Octane fuel and perhaps replace the spark plug with an NGK BPR5ES and make sure the kill switch is working as the default is connected meaning normal position is the non running position.
Good luck and feel free to ask if you have other questions.

The spark-plug gap WAS correct at .036" (0,9mm) and correctly set from maker, but you adjusted it to wrong setting.

Strange, on mine the gaskets on either side of the air guide are the same (part#12 16221-883-800). Odd since there's a hole in the carb but not a matching hole in the air guide, so the gasket seems to just block it off. On the oposite side the hole in the carb matches up with a hole in the air cleaner and the gaskets have the same holes. Recently had to work on the carb due to a sticking choke plate, wouldn't move freely back to the closed position and a few sprays of carb cleaner removed a bunch of built up gunk at the spring. I originally was expecting to see a failed thermo wax but got lucky. All the original gaskets were in great condition except at the air guide, I think those two gaskets come pre-installed on the metal air guide and they were squished and deformed. No reason to buy a new air guide since it's metal and in perfect condition, just bought the two gaskets and seems to work great.

Excellent point. The engine shown was one of the first ones manufactured. Today, auto choke is not even offered. Manual, cable controlled chokes only because of the problems encountered with the thermal wax systems used in the past. That has led to a situation where gaskets are still made the same but air paths are not needed or are otherwise blocked off. Thank you for your comment.

    FYI
As my trusty , always reliable hrx 217 stopped mid mowing and unable to restart, I found your video content pertinent to my quest in resuscitating it. Unfortunately it seems, HONDA "free" service manual no longer are free to download. The link, although correct, the attempt to download the hrx documents, yields NO response. There is, although, A shop manual FOR SALE for a "paultry" $39. 😢

Holy sh*t. A 4 dollar can of starting fluid and 15 minutes of time and you would have been cutting the lawn. You install the carb/gaskets to the air box and put the rod and spring on and your done.. There is only a main jet and float needle to clean.
