My favorite part of Gravity falls was when Alex Hirsch sacrificed himself to save the world from Alex Hirsch.

I just love the fact that as his memory is being erased and he's finally being engulfed, the last thing he holds is the picture frame. He's holding onto that memory of his family as long as he can. Love Gravity Falls.

And I guess he did manage to hold onto that memory, since Mable's scrapbook is what restored all of his memories.
And I'm pretty sure that's what made all the difference.
“You’re a real wise guy but you made one fatal mistake, you messed with my family” amazing line always gives chills. Stan in that entire end scene is just cold asf with how when Bill is going crazy trying to survive he just stands there staring at him

Stan really cares about his family more than money. This is proof. He sacrificed his memories to destroy Bill Cipher. Bill was an idiot and a dorito anyway

Two ways to interpret this line:
(1) By messing with Stan's family, Bill incurred his wrath
(2) The Pines family is better than Bill, and by messing with them he picked a fight he couldn't win.
In a way I like that stanley gets the final punch . This was his way of taking his revenge against the person who traumatised his brother for 30 years

it does seem they were going that route , maybe a human who got trapped in the monster world. as only he could crack jokes and stuff and others were just dumb . so basically a stark contrast to ford maybe that he stayed sane and bill went crazy

Tbf He's been in stans mind before though, shit was a maze back the lol.
It’s because he was so driven by his greed for the equation or whatever he was going for he was ignoring all signs that it was a trick. Like the 6 fingers, the awkwardness of ford acting as Stan, the biggest being the look of stans mind obviously. It’s actually really cool how they did that. How the most maniacal all powerful villain ignored all this just to get what he wanted because in that moment that’s what was most important to him. Underestimating the power of selflessness and the care you have for your family is what led to his downfall along with everything else I listed above
So basically Stan knew and remembered 🤣

Honestly something about this scene that hits hard is how calm Stan is about his entire memory being erased. He doesn’t care that much because he knows it will mean Dipper and Mabel will be safe.
I like that Stanley chooses to appear in his casual wear during his heroic sacrifice. Earlier, he was put out that he succeeded in repairing the portal in his underwear, but here he's content to go out this way.

I think the reason it's so good is that that's Bill's final plead. He has pure desperation in his voice, trying to somehow be spared.

The fact that The Eye Window gives off a look like Shattered Appearance, It’s almost as if we are watching bill coming apart/dematerializing(as you said it) and forcefully getting sent back to the nightmare dimension

When you realised stanley knew dipper and bill were in his mind back in season 1
I mean, he talks directly to Dipper when he's in the flashback
yeah, but in that episode, when he became conscious again, and Dipper mentioned that they defeated Bill, I don't know how to explain his reaction if Grunkle Stan had read about Bill before in diary 1, or if it wasn't there

You can also tell the difference by their noses, Stanley's nose has a smudge on it, and Stanford's doesn't.

6 fingers is Stanford’s key feature, so Stanley had to somehow mimic the 6 fingers from inside the 6 fingered glove to fool Bill.

Memory wiping just disables bill's powers leaving him vulnerable to be erased from that timeline and multiverse, but Stanley's subconscious memories must have probably been gifted by the Axolotl for the ultimate sacrifice being done... so that he can return to normal also

I love how if you look close enough before Bill enters Stan's mind, you can actually tell that it's Stan and not Ford by their facial features. Like Stan's bumpy nose and differently colored grey chin. As well as the 6 fingers on Ford while dressed as Stan.

Theres also a detail i found interesting. When bill enters “fords” mind “ford” seemed scared. Ford let bill into his own mind before. Stanley was asleep when bill entered the mind in the dreamscapers episode. So this is another detail you can tell it’s stanley and not stanford. Also a funny detail i noticed, “welcome to my mind surprised you didn’t recognize it” bill has been there before but still thought it was fords mind. If it was fords, alot of things would be running through at once
The he just casually says he's gonna kill them is something, alright.
I think this brought back painful memories for Bill when he was surrounded by fire. This is how everybody in his dimension died.

Now the memories are even more painful
All the things in that room represent Stan's memories. He picks one of them out of the flames of his erasing memories and clings to it to the very last. It's the last memory he thinks of before they're erased. He picks it up, looks at it and closes his eyes to remember it.
What is it? It's a photo of himself with Dipper, Mabel, and Waddles.
As his mind is in flames, that's the memories he fought hardest to hold on to. The memories of his summer with the kids. Everything else could burn for all he cared. But that memory, he wanted it to be the last things he remembered, his final reminiscence before amnesia takes him. If he was gonna lose it all, he wanted to remember the ones he was doing this for as long as he could while he still could.
There's something so touching about that. So heartwarming. He wanted his last thoughts as himself, to be about much he loves those two kids.
This was such a good show

First show I cried watching.
If you look at Stan's hands before the reveal you'll see that he's got 6 fingers, signaling that he's Ford, although it's the same case for Stan dressed up as Ford but he's got Ford's 6 fingered gloves on. How does he manage to control all 6 fingers of the glove to shake Bill's hand, I've no clue.
Stan always had a bunch of shit for his shop and to con people, sleight of hand is his specialty. My guess is he had some sort of fake finger in his glove to move along with his pinky.

when they switch clothes, you can see that spot on "fords" nose which is a subtle hint that its actually stanley, that was a good detail from the show

I've watched Gravity falls so many times, and I noticed something that not many people have.
You see, Ford was trying document all his findings in gravity falls, but there was one mystery even he couldn't solve. But that's when Bill entered the picture. Bill Cypher may have had knowledge beyond anyone's comprehension, but Ford started catching on to his betrayl fairly quickly. However, there was one way in which Bill and Ford could have both got what they wanted.
Yes, that's right! Bill Cypher, Ford, Grunkle Stan, Dipper, and Mable could have all had a happy ending.
All Bill had to do was trade the secret to obtaining a physical form; and I cannot stress this enough... WITH THOSE DAMN PHOTOS OF SPIDER-MAN!!!!

My favorite detail about this scene is that you can tell that they switched clothes if you pay attention to their chins. Stanford has a butt chin while Stanley doesn't.

I love how this is Stan's first and only time facing off against Bill on his own, and he handles it like a champ.
Kind of confused why he needed to erase Stanley pines from his memory when he probably couldve erased Bill Cipher from his memory. Idk if that would still work but it makes more sense than erasing his own name.

Well, the memory gun just erases memories and that’s it. If Ford had just typed in “Bill Cypher” then Stan’s memories of Bill Cypher would have been erased but Bill would still be in his mind, so it seems pretty simple that in order to erase and destroy Bill, they had to erase and destroy his mind, i.e erasing Stan’s memories.
Bill cipher is just a nickname, and saying his real name can kill people, so they have to erase the memory

Mcgucket (the old man who worked with stanford making the portal, who saw bill eating his own exoskeleton and who created the memory gun to erase his own memory) never forgot about bill. In the episode about the blind eye society in the memory video of mcgucket we can clearly see him in his broken phase saying some weird words. Thoose words meant "bill chiper! Triangle" so even if he forgot everything he never forgot bill and this would have been the same fate of stanley but fortunately he got his good memorys back thanks to mabel
This scene just show that Grunkle Stan ain't only a funny guy but...a hero.

It might be unintentional, but a neat touch is that Stan, as Ford, interrupts Bill right when he's about to kill Mabel.
Stan has shown throughout the series that his favorite is easily Mabel. She is supposed to parallel himself as a twin, after all.

That’s not true. While Stan outwardly gets along with Mabel more, he loves both the twins equally. He just shows it differently with Dipper. Dipper reminds him of his younger self and a bit of his brother, too. It’s why Stan felt the need to do to Dipper what his father did to him in order to toughen him up for the world around him.
When he speaks the backwards message it also sounds like he says Newtopia

So much about this scene and finale is amazing, but one of the best things is how it’s showing an all powerful god begging an old man for mercy, now that… that is something else. 😧🤯

This ending was awesome. Though, IMO, I think it would have been better if Stan's memories had stayed erased.
I get it, the sacrifice he took would have meant more, but McGuckett remembered who he was after watching his memories. So it only makes sense if Stan remembered who he was after seeing the scrap book.
