Great video. My '89 GT also just turned 36K on the ticker. Big problem even with garage queens are plastic parts always breaking. Good thing parts are getting easier to get.
@@afdave7 I did not. It was in very, very rough shape. Body lines and panel gaps were good, no major rust, but it needed all of the interior redone. The doors were saggy, all the weather stripping was shot. Aftermarket stereo just thrown in the cubby and not mounted. Steering column was missing top and bottom cover exposing the ignition which means it was probably stolen at some point. The list goes on!
@Nick17354 ouch. Good job you avoided that. I just passed on one tonight. Too much rust. And many other things. Glad to have videos like this to help me know what to look for. Saved me a Ton.
I had all the Mustang fliers from the Ford dealer 82 to 89 finally threw them away about 10 years ago. I nearly bought on after the 87 5.0 fuel injection upgrade to 225HP
Just found this vid. After having bout of nostalgia thinking about my 1989 I’m watching youtube vids and even posted some of my own old vid. Funny its been a super long time since I’ve seen a relituvely stock Mustang! 😂 thx for posting this vid is really helpful for newbies searching for a Foxbody of their own.
i found an lx that i will fly out to look at and potentially drive home. claims it's a 100k original miles. pictures look amazing but the seller s willing to get some video and undercarriage footage for me so i can potentially decide before making the trip. thanks for your advice in your video! :)
Would you ever purchase a Salvage Titled (California) fox body Mustang? The car I’m looking to purchase is overall straight and original but holds a Salvaged Title.
I would, and here's why: the pickings are slim. At this point, you're buying this car for its current condition, not its history. If this were a later model car, there'd be more fish in the sea from which to choose...but foxes are getting hard to find in *any* condition, so if the price is reasonable, I wouldn't hesitate. Do you know *why* it has a salvage title?
@@Mustang-Geek I really appreciate that advice. Unfortunately I don’t know the reason. I looked up the CarFax and it shows that it was salvaged in 1992. If I were to guess, it may have been salvaged for theft. The last time it was registered was in 2002 and appears to have been sitting for the past 20 years.
@@raybareng4561 Noted. Look it over carefully. Identify what's "less than ideal" about the car and ask yourself, "Am I able to fix that? Do I WANT to fix that?" Buy a car that is strong in the things you don't want to do, and weak in the things you're good at.
Not bad. Depends upon the part. Much of the commonly broken or missing parts are available aftermarket. I like LMR.com as their search function on the website works well.
Good video lots of good tips, personally I can't afford a good one so I bought a bunch of clunkers and spent 20 years piecing them together myself but those kind of cars will never have the value of a good original car, although you can go as wild as you want without feeling bad
Sweet Hatch, I’m the guy who bought it a few weeks back. I haven’t put many miles on it but car is a blast to drive.
It's a really good one!
It's WAY better than some overpriced wine and cheese machine !

Yes, especially the interior parts!
Thank you for your time. Very informative. These foxbodys are nice to have and fun to drive
If your expectations are low! :)
Going to look at, and potentially buy, a '90 LX notch back tomorrow. Thanks for this video! It's a huge help knowing what to look for.
Great! Glad to help! Please like, subscribe and check out my other videos!

Cracking floor pans is what happened to my 5.0 4 speed Pace Car when it was less than 10 years old.
Very common!

This car looks exactly like my 88 which still has everything for the factory bone stock except for the Flowmaster mufflers
@@nathanlopez5935 Not very many unmolested examples left!

Great!
The SSP bracing was just a 1/8" plate on inside...
Ah, good to know!
Hey at 3:58 he mentions a “air pump” can some one fill me in on what that does?
Just pumps air into the catalytic converters. Typical on cars of the era. Usually one of the first things that gets ditched by hot rodders.
@@Mustang-Geek ok thanks!
@@robertshaw6921 No sweat! Happy Fox hunting :)

mine has been in the family since new-ish but none of the pannels line up after a shit paintjob
reassembly is a skill!
what sound would the car make if I put it in reverse like it said in the video and the clutch WAS spinning with the engine?
Good question. It would grind.
@@Mustang-Geek thanks for response

Where are you located and how much do you want. Looking for an 88 coupe to go with my hatch
This wasn't my car, and it's already sold!
Great video !!!! Random question here. Im 6'3" 200 lbs. Will I fit in a 90-93 fox you think ?
There are seat track extenders. I'd also recommend getting a Corbeau seat with the bottom cushion shaved to make it lower.
Ok. Thanks for the suggestions !!! Much appreciated. 👍
