    Thanks SO much. ignighter from JD is around $80. Far cheaper elsewhere. I always begin by testing the cheapest components first... they’re cheap because they’re cheaply made. When they inflate the price it’s difficult to know where to start.

    Thanks so much. I saw from another video that I probably had either a faulty igniter or rev limiter. So I bought both and neither one fell into the readings that you have posted. But I did check the old igniter and it read 2.94. So I cut the limiter wire and removed it and put the old igniter back in and it started right up. So it not only saved me 67.00, but if I would have installed the new parts, it probably wouldn't have started and then I would have thought it was the coil. So the video not only saved me some money but a lot of aggravation too. Can't tell you how elated I was. Very impressive! And it also shows that just because they are new doesn't always mean they are good.

      @@lawnmowerman4040 your ignition coil has one wire coming out of it if you have no igniter which means that it’s a high energy coil which is an upgrade the black wire that comes out from the engine back pan the wire comes from the coil out through that back pan down where are your Revlimid was and then goes over to the white wire with a blue stripe in it and there should be like a quick connect there. So we have the white wire with the blue line in our hands and we’ve disconnected it from the ignition coil we want to try to roll the engine over and make sure it has spark if at that point you do not have spark it is time to replace the coil. You can remove it and then use the test procedures from the video. And just to be perfectly honest some carts the rev limiter’s been relocated out in front of the motor to the crossmember frame so follow the wire coming off of that back in behind the plate it was properly mounted to and it will run into the igniter behind the plate I described

  • @lomasck

    The igniter bolts right behind the rev limiter. After removing the rev limiter brown wire 10mm bolt it sparked again so I cut the black line right next to the male plug in your picture & just left the short black part connecting the coil to the igniter. No rev limiter used now. Goes good again.I used a mirror to see what I was doing.You cant just disconnect the wire from the coil going down to the rev limiter. It needs the small igniter box as well.I have no high voltage to charge the battery as well .Thats the Voltage regulator at fault.

    First off, excellent video. I love your explanation. Second, thank you for including the Ohm ranges. Finally, I have a question regarding a golf cart in my shop right now. It has the FE290D-AS17 engine on it. When it came in, the guy said it was getting no spark. He had replaced the battery at the end of last season, and it just sat all winter. He kept the battery in doors and periodically charged it, so all good there. I put the battery in on Saturday, and it takes right off with no problems at all. Monday comes, and with it comes the rain. I hop on to move it into a sheltered area, and it won't budge. I pushed it under the awning and called the guy to let him know. I got around to checking yesterday, and it has VERY weak spark. Is that an indication that the RPM Limiter is going, or should I look elsewhere?

      Coil 's if they have a small breach in there sealed housing can take on water causing corrosion . this can increase resistance and weaken the spark. by removing your brown wire from ground on the rev limiter and the spark returns to normal ohm you Rev limiter it may be failing. if not and there is no change get ready to change out the coil.

      fe350 has a ignition coil that has a built-in igniter. no separate igniter on it. ohm the Rev limiter and then . do too test 1. unplug white wire with black stripe coming from wiring harness from the rear engine area. roll over , spark comes back check micro switch in the black odd shaped box with throttle cable in it. 2. disconnect brown wire on Rev limiter after reconnecting white with black stipe. if your spark returns replace Rev limiter. now if both test are done still no spark 3. check spark plug wire at the end of plug wire where the cap that goes to spark plug end. then can become corroded. still no spark . Replace coil . If in a presedence. drop rear springs only the back end of springs from shackle remove any thing that may prevent the rear end from coming don't . it will drop low enough you can get muffler bracket off and remove shroud cover to engine to get to the coil.

    I know this is an old video but I just got my first cart. It's a 87vor 88 I think. It's getting weak and intermittent spark. And other times it's great spark and runs fine other then a back fire. Any idea??

    • @Contractorrepair
      @Contractorrepair  Год назад

      Adjust the valves to start with.
      Then check the end of the plug wire at its connector and look for either wires that have or are not making contact with the plug end. Then goes to the brown wire coming off the Rev limiter ( black square box lower of the valve cover down in front of the motor. The brown wire will be connected to a bolt. This bolt grounds the Rev limiter. Unbolt it, let it hang free strat and run. See, at this point, we have checked to see if we have a good connection where we need it, and with brown wire off, we are checking the Rev limiter for intermittent failure. If your engine stops, miss firing we have found the issue . A Rev limiter, if it fails, literally shuts down the spark in the event you engines RPM are to great . This Rev limiter saves the engine from taking out your govenor.so we want to ensure this Rev limiter is functional at the right time. The backfire is a traight of a loss of spark at some point . Following what's above, we isolate why. After this we then check all wiring near the Rev limiter and see if the black wire running into the fly wheel area may have worn the coating off it and is it shorting the coil out intermittently . I lift the rear of the cart wheels off the ground and shut off all the light and watch for arcing.neear that area.

      If there’s a brown wire coming off of your black square box rev limiter remove it from its 10 mm bolt that grounds at two make it operate remove the brown wire. If you regain spark replace the rev limiter. That’s the cheapest way to start. After that follow the ohm schedule in the video for your igniter because that’s your next step. After that you wanna make sure if the igniter ohms are in correct it’s time to get down into the coil area under the shroud. Make sure you have plenty of time to cope with the shroud pulling it off. And then follow up with me once you find out what you have.

      Go to the spark plug wire at the end with a cap is I want you to ensure that the brass screw is up into the wiring of the spark plug wire. Then take the ground wire off of the rev limiter that is brown tan and color just remove it from its 10 mm screw there and then I want you to do 5 time start it run it for 2 minutes and turn it off then I want you to put the brown wire back onto ground and do the test again now if it fails it's your rev limiter if it continues to run no problem your issue was in your lead wire at the cap not making good connection. Now if doing all of this doesn't help at all I want you to go to the coil again find the kill wire that comes out through the Shroud area and check and make sure that it's connection to the harness is correct. If you have an F E 290 ohm out the igniter. If it's an fe350 it will not have an igniter. Keep me updated

    • @Contractorrepair
      @Contractorrepair  4 года назад

      @@StutlaProduction we are either dealing with a Temp issue causing a failure. Rev limiter brown wire off just aliminates the Rev limiters operation . If brown wires connected and no spark there is a direct short. a Rev limiter basically calculates the RPMs coming from the coil that being said if it reaches 4000 RPMs it will make the spark go to direct ground. If you were having a unit that has periodic Spark that goes away and returns no matter what the time frame is what is important is when do you lose Spark. If the unit is cold and you start the machine up and it runs for let's say 10-15 minutes fails to continue in operation by losing spark while the engine is running this indicates that a temperature issue on the coil causing it to go too short as if it was like someone shut the key off. Sitting for a little while unit cooling down and then turning your key and it starting back up I would search at all components but they must be hot such as at the time of failure remove the brown wire if it starts up as soon as you remove that brown wire then you know the rev limiter has got a temperature issue and failing under Heat being the unit is most likely bolted near the engine in my past experience I take and butt connect extension wires to the black and brown wires and relocate a new rev limiter just out to the frame of the cart to prevent heat build-up. I know what you're asking me is which component is failing, but you need a OHM tester on your multimeter to check at the time of failure. Your ignition coil itself just bolts into the engine area it's black lead wire that comes off through the shroud to test at failure disconnect this lead and really start unit if it starts it'd not the coil.

    Does the voltage regulator hook up to ignitor

    • @Contractorrepair
      @Contractorrepair  Год назад

      It does not , the igniter acts like a capacitor. Your voltage regulator comes off of your starter generator leads into the black box. It regulates the power that comes off of the surge generator and ensures that you have a sufficient amount of voltage in your battery for the next time, the engine startsand keeps it charged as you use accessories like lights etc. that would draw off of the battery. An igniter is in your start and run system which is separate. If you need more information and you’re able to you can call me it’s 989-395-0913 ask for Nick.

    • @Contractorrepair
      @Contractorrepair  Год назад

      To describe it a little better inside the black box weird throttle control is just behind your seat. That’s where the vultures regulator would normally sit down in there, so the starter motor is two phase it first turns the engine over at a certain RPMs when the engine itself starts up it converts into what they call a alternator/generator. It delivers power down to the voltage regulator, and that determines how many volts are put into your battery most the time you want to provide more than 12 V some run 13.5 and up to 14.75. It all depends on the strength. I have seen the mounted outside where someone had removed it and then mounted it outside the black box somewhere it’s about a 3“ x 3“ square flat with one hole right through the center of of it that mounts to the bottom of the plastic box the black plastic box.

      ok. you need to make sure the wire " Brown coming off the rev limiter is in fact the wire. sounds as if the wire coming off the igniter is what is the issue . in pet the wires black coming from the engine area to the coil . brown comes from the rev limiter. this wire Brown just bolts as a ground just lower the rev limiter with that 10 mm bolt . the igniter it located back behind and is the size of end of you middle finger.

    Hi can. Anyone help me I have a 1992 club car ds fe 290 engine I changed the ignition coil 2 years ago with one with the self igniter in the instructions it stated only clock wise direction engine , mine is anti clock wise no spark the right way round, but sparks the wrong way round it’s ran for 2 years and now has died any reason for this? Rpm limiter disconnected

    • @Contractorrepair
      @Contractorrepair  3 года назад

      Yes the rev-limiter is probably disconnected, because it is either defective, or someone didn't know what they were doing. If you have a meal emanated the igniter. And you have installed a coil that has an igniter in it combo. You must get the correct coil pickup directions. Your cart what direction does it crank over to the left or to the right when looking at the flywheel

    My fe290d does not have a rev limiter or igniter. It’s on an old gator

    • @Contractorrepair
      @Contractorrepair  2 года назад

      Your gator will have a Governor and a throttle stop. Your ignition coil will have some type of a high energy ignition which means built into the coil. That coil grounds to the engine block, and will have a lead wire that comes off do your ignition one wire. Don’t confuse them with wires coming from magneto which generates power as an alternator to run lights or recharge the battery. Are you having spark issues. Inspect the lead wire from the coil coming up to the spark plug. If yours is not a molded endcap it may unscrew off the lead wire coming from the coil up to the spark plug sometimes they get corroded. Trim back 1/4 inch of the wire and reinstall the endcap if it does screw down in with a barbed copper styled threaded end. What’s going on with the unit itself

    Still, no one says where this igniter is located.

    • @Contractorrepair
      @Contractorrepair  2 года назад

      Igniter if it has one will be located behind the rev limiter mounting plate. So if we look and find no igniter your cart has a ignition coil that has one built into it. What year is your cart ?
