People should mention lifespan more often in videos like this. These little guys live a looong time, like 12-15yrs, I believe. It's quite a commitment. Darts are amazing though. I love the enclosures as much as the frogs, the good ones that is.
Many can get over 20 years old with proper care
Agreed. Many creators only mention it with stuff that can outlive you like parrots or tortoises.
Wow I didn't know they lived that long. I figured 5-7 years max. That's very good to know
Thank you for this comment. I had assumed it would be closer to that of a hamster.
I need ur opinion man.. i have two poisons and they’re roughly abt 4-6 months old. One of them got huge and is fat, the other one is shy and always hiding and is small skinny and fragile and doesnt move much. Im so scared for the little skinny one, i have her in quartine rn to see if she’ll eat when the other one isnt there. Can you please give me some advice?😢 (i feed them both tiny micro crickets)
Dart frogs is a species I’ve always wanted to keep but have just never dropped the hammer on yet. They’re so beautiful. Great video Adam!
Dart Frogs are awesome. I love our Phyllobates vittatus, they are colourful, active and their call is beautiful. Our group of five have been providing us with lots of tadpoles/froglets. To be honest, I love all our frogs: Dendrobates tinctorius, Dendrobates cobalts and Ranitomeya sirensis! 🐸🐸🐸
can't go wrong with a dart frog!

The frogs are gorgeous. The setups are beautiful and very well thought out.
I don't have a poisoned dart frog, nor do I ever plan on getting one but somehow I can't stop watching this video 😭
thank you! I love these little froggos!
I had an exo terra 12x12x18 laying around & wanted to keep something in it, but I was really limited. It was originally for my crested gecko when she was a baby, & after finding Josh's Frogs I was introduced to the wonderful world of thumbnail dart frogs. I did research on the most bold & beautiful thumbnails & chose R. imitator "Tarapoto". It's been such a joy though there aren't many sources specifically about the smaller guys, especially breeding, which mine started almost immediately. It's a goal of mine to post to RUclips about it / my pets :)
My favorite dart is the bumblebee! To me they are so cute with their black masked faces and yellow "hats" on top. Ours are quite bold too. Feeding-wise, if you want to look into it, you can try bean beetles. They're easy to keep and gives the darts some variety.
Mine absolotely *hated* the beetles. They would catch them, spit them out and ignore ever after.
Bu yes, pinheads are the worst: they get everywhere.
So I'll stick to both varieties or fruitflies, aphids etc. (Bioactive bottoms, so they probably snack on the pillbugs as well.)
@@muurrarium9460 Heb je een terrarium in je uur gebouwd? Awesome man.
@@danny9905 Nah, staan in zo'n alu-stelling. ;)
@@muurrarium9460 Haha, ook gaaf man!
@@danny9905 Ohja, helaas zijn de bakken zo oud dat de kit uit elkaar valt :(( en nieuwe kosten een godsvermogen...
I got my first dart frog (Dendrobates azureus) at an expo last summer and he/she is so entertaining. I love watching feeding time!
I love em!
These are very social frogs, don't keep him/her (check the toe"caps") as a solo-animal plze.
I’ve been waiting for this! Pumped to watch it. Thanks man!
Very interesting, thanks for putting out this info and letting us know about other things we need to look into. 👍
This was GREAT! I love how upbeat you've been of late. It was a wonderful video...and now...I want dart frogs‼️
Nature is awesome! I ❤ how it never ceases to amaze. "Living art," like literally having a piece of the Amazon in your home. Thanks, throughly enjoyed this video 👌
Thanks! I am about to consider purchasing and starting to learn. The Thumbnails have my heart
Good video, I have a very active very bold breeding group of 4 Ranitomeya Variabilis Southern in a 36x18x18, beautiful entertaining species. I'm currently converting an old 35 gallon hex aquarium into a front opening viv (definitely a bit of work pulling off this conversion & setup but I'm happy with how it's coming out) for all the froglets building up lol, think I have around 15 froglets right now and another 20 tadpoles lol.
i used this video's info to help me keep a pair of santa isabelas since roughly the same time last year, and i love them and their songs :))
I love their call!
Love the shirt Adam and I hope you are having an awesome week.
Been waiting for this video, also your a great RUclipsr
Hopping Jewels. Very pretty. Great information too! Thanks!
Love it bud smashing video
Beautiful clips of the frogs! This is a great video
Many thanks!
Love the dart frogs! Great video as always. Will try darts one day.
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 well done!! I love my leucomelas. Soon to be adding more enclosures for future dart frogs. I am unsure which species at this time.

Mr. Adam Sir. I keep Dendrobates tinctorius 'Citronella'. I love em. Your video was spot on.
When I made up my terrarium using spray foam and dry lock, I added some medicine pill bottles, the red/orange ones you get for prescriptions, and embedded them in the foam. I cut off the back sides, so it was a hollow tube. I embedded them in the foam. The frogs LOVE these as hides. What is really nice, too, is that if you get them flush against the back/side of the terrarium, you can then view them in the hide from the side/back of the terrarium. Gives a neat perspective.
I also added a couple of inches of a rock layer, with a substrate barrier in mine. With the humidity that high, it is a good idea.
For the humidity, I just used a cheap party fogger that I found on Amazon for $40. Put it on a timer, and it works great.
Your content is great. Not too sure about why you felt you had to mention that you shouldn't put dart frogs in your orifices, but whatever. lol
Keep up the great work.
I have had my 2 dart frogs since summer and they are amazing :)
Dart frogs are my favourite terrestrial frog! Awesome care guide! Your the best Adam!
Beautiful filming. 📹
Great information. I really like the bumble bee dart frogs. Im getting a 20 gallon tank set up so I can get some next month at the reptile show in Lodi California in Febuary if someone is selling them.
Otherwise I will order from Josh.
Thank you for all the information. I subscribed.
Dart Frogs are freaking amazing! There obviously my favorite amphibian and I found this content very helpful!
Love your fog videos!
More to come!
Just ordered my Ranitomeya imitator and I’m so excited !
such a cool species!
Love your frog video's dude
Nice video👍👍👍
I appreciate all of your knowledge I am a small reptile RUclipsr you are my biggest inspiration so thank you for giving me this opportunity
I appreciate that!
great video!
thanks!
Gorgeous creatures!
I think so too!
Yay my next pet! Can’t wait to build another bioactive for these guys 😀
YOU GAVE THE PEOPLE WHAT THEY WANT!!!! HELL YEAH!!!!!!
Couldnt have come at a better time!
I'm planning to pick up a few at my local expo next week
Awesome to see dart frogs get more coverage!
I have to say that at least one of those Azureus looks alarmingly skinny. Of course I don’t know about the background of that frog but I’d definitely separate it from the rest of the group immediately, especially since tinctorius are known to be territorial and bully each other.
You’re right. He was super skinny. I took this footage the day I got them. They are big fat bois now
@@WickensWickedReptiles Glad to hear he’s doing better :)
It isn't just not mixing species but localities we don't want to Localities to get muddy.
You are the best RUclipsr ever wicked wickens reptile have a awesome day have a cool day have a absolutely wonderful day great work wicked wickens reptile
Oh dear. I didn't think I'd get pulled in by frogs, but you have me doing extra research now. I'm pretty sure I have dart frogs in my future.
Go for it!
Hello your my favorite RUclipsr you inspired me to make my own channel thank you
We have D auratus, and we love them. One of them is actually pretty bold, the other two are newer and younger, and still hide quite a bit. But they are so fun to watch, and they're a major talking point anytime we have company.
In addition to fruit flies, we also feed them confused flour beetles, which are incredibly easy to maintain a constant supply of, even easier than fruit flies.
I love this species
auratus are the kind i am looking at if/when I get into it. Nice to meet someone else that appreciates that kind.
Poisons dart frogs are so cute
So beautiful these little guys are 💜
I dont have dart frogs yet, but am in planning stages.. i think i love them all! 😂 ive noticed your humidifier in your room behind you and ive been meaning to ask... what do you keep your humidity levels out in your room. Im guessing its because it winter and super dry? I live in wisconsin and have same issue
Ur my favorite RUclipsr
Awesome video, Adam! I surprisingly don’t have any dart frogs (yet..) 😅 Primarily because I know that, if I get one species, it’ll snowball into me wanting more! 😂
So true! I got one species and now have so many
these are so beautiful & you're actually the reason my husband has decided to actually get a frog of any sort. he enjoys dart frogs..... and will hopefully one day be on board with me getting whites tree frogs?😂🤞🏼
I call them hopping jewels, unlike hummingbirds are flying jewels, lol. They are so beautiful, and I hope you share more about them in the future. Thanks so much!
I love your RUclips channel
Azureus!! My fave!
Love my Oophaga pumilio punta laurels! Although i also love my Phyllobates vittatus. The punta laurels seem to be a little more personable
Dart frogs are awesome pets. My favorite is dendrobates tinctorius or ‘tincs”. They are large, bold and great eaters.
I keep dart frogs. I find most of us are really get into the enclosures more than probably any of the other group of pet hobbyists. Probably a third of posts of Facebook groups are about the enclosures themselves.
Me and my boyfriend we've been planning on getting Dart frogs for months, but we just can't decide what species to get :( Thanks for your amazing videos, it always helps ! :)
Thanks Adam, I just got 2 Azureus about 2 months ago, they are great but almost never see them, I hope this changes as the get older. Anyway great channel
It will for sure !
I personally don't plan on keeping any frogs, but if I did, it would definitely be dart frogs. Great video, love learning about them. I didn't know they could get too wet, I assumed since they're amphibians that you wouldn't have to worry about it being too humid. Learned something new
Thanks for watching!
so how do you navigate the grow light and glass lid situation?? :))))
Do you think you could do a video of reptile enrichment I think it would be really cool
already have, enjoy!
Great video. I don't keep them but they are so pretty.
They sure are
can you showcase the santa isabels terrarium please ? how it works, how did u built the runing water sistem?
how do you keep the temprature in the terrarium ?
do you use a heat matt or heat lamp ?
thx.
Ya know i always loved frogs really enjoy your content on them always thought a frog named yotzee covered in lil dots would be cute
I love my Dendrobates Tinctorius
My favorite is tincs
How do you keep the fruit flies in the enclosure with a screen lid, is the mesh small enough that they don’t escape?
I am looking to start an enclosure of dart frogs. I want to keep it in my classroom to go along with my science lessons (I teach 2nd grade). I have not owned any amphibians before. I enjoyed this video because I have no idea what to do about a tank. Are there any other tips I should keep in mind for this?
I love all the important information you give about the different reptiles and amphibians. I think it would be amazing if more people/keepers/RUclipsrs would actually show how to setup the tank/enclosure. Information is Great!! But I know some people, like myself, are very visual and could use a visual tutorial/information.
after hearing how much pricy they can get with proper set up I think I might wait a month or two before actually geting them or maybe I will decide on different frog.
I'm currently building a new enclosure for my day gecko and have been contemplating adding some frogs. Geckos and snakes are easy, frogs seem like work lol
Can u make a vid about abronias please im gon get one
Would a 12x12x18 work for a smaller species? For a pair maybe?
more poison dart frog content please
ok!!
Is distilled and spring water ok? I've used those two no issues.
I want mint terribilis. I saw some in person and they almost look shimmery green. They’re so beautiful. I’ll have some one day but I need to be sure I’m ready. I know they’re super sensitive and I don’t want to kill them.
I absolutely love this species
What's a good beginner dart frog that's pretty quiet? I'm really interested in getting into dart frogs but I live in an apartment and can't have a species that is very loud
thinking about a new pet, as my 12y 3mth dog is fading out with his final illness. yesterday we were at the reptile/aquarium center picking up a pump and i was looking hard at dart frogs, somthing ive thought of before. who knows when ill be ready and how i will feel
Can you mix species
Did you sea Ryan trahans new video it also includes dart frogs
What can I use as a background I don’t want to do the spray foam and shave it like others do. Do you recommend anything
universal rocks?
A video of CHE vs DHP vs halogens and wat would be the best lighting/set up for u
cool idea!
@@WickensWickedReptiles thanks it's actually a issue iv been dealing with and figured I couldn't be the only one that may benefit from a in-depth video of different heating and lighting sources pros and cons of each wat works best with wat pets ECT and iv been watching ur videos for about 6 months now and u seem to always go above and beyond for not only ur animals but also ur fans so thought I'd drop the idea
Where’d you get your San Isabels? They’re my favorite species and I’ve been thinking about getting a few🐸
A Kijiji deal
@@WickensWickedReptiles thanks, do you know any shops with them near Texas
Where do you buy them?
I am considering dart frogs for my pet, I would like keep strawberry ones.
I LOVE FROGS
I adore my Ranitomeya imitator Varaderos
Your video was great. I am inspired again 12:37 12:37
I am looking into possibly getting dart frogs and I can't find an answer to the following question: Say I wanted to get a group of 3-4 D. Tinctorius how big should the tank at the least be for them to have enough space to appeace their territorial nature? Would a 100x50x50 cm tank be big enough? (~40x18x18'')
Can I use my 100 gallon tank? And how many can I put in?
Just got a baby bearded dragon. He's a red one. Looking to get a Leppard gecko. Or a dirt frog
I don't keep dart frogs, only Japanese fire bellied toads. Very interesting care guide. Thank-you.
A lot of people don’t recommend mist systems because of fungus and different bacteria’s that can become aerosolized. What do you think??
I just received my Tinc Azureas two days ago. I received 2 and one is out all the time and all over the 18 x 24 x 24 terrarium, eating and exploring. The other, five minutes after being introduced, went under the leaf litter and has never been seen again, even at feeding time. I am very concerned that the shipping was too stressful for that one. Is there a way for me to go searching in the enclosure just to make sure it is okay? The readings fortemp and humidity ranges are 72 - 79 degrees and 77-99% Humidity. I have a drip will and an automatic mister comes on 3 times a day for 10sec each time. Lights out by 10pm and on at 7:30am. Any help you could provide would be greatly appreciated as I am fearful that one may be ill.
I’ve always wanted to keep Gold Mantellas
I don’t own any dart dogs at present but my husband is interested…I admit to not knowing the species names but the blue ones seem to be his favorite
They are pretty cool!
What do you have to feed then to make them poisonous again?
can I keep dart frogs with my crestie? Just wondering :)
So im in the process of building a a 40 breeder, ive been watching your videos for a few weeks now. The other day i came across a video of yours saying that you can cohab dart frogs with mourning geckos. So my question is are there specific dart frogs that share similar parameters with Mourning geckos? Or is this doable with most darts? Thanks. Your videos are great, super informative, and inspirational!
thanks so much for watching!
They are fine with most denrobates species. I would avoid thumbnail (could be a snack for mourning geckos) and I would avoid terribilis since they can get big enough to eat the young of mourning geckos
How are they called? Menterbilis? I can't recognize the word.
