It's cool to bring these design concepts into the public. Japan is not the only Navy to study odd ideas. We have the Tillman battleships in the US. Some of the Tillman designs make A140 look reasonable.
Your depiction of the A140 concept is very cool! I love the Tone and Nelson gun layouts so was very happy to see it for the Yamato too. I didn't realize there was such significant reasons the Nelson style big gun layout was not often replicated for battleship class ships.
The British were the first to discard the Nelson all forward main gun layout with the 1929 Design 16-A which was an enlarged Queen Elizabeth type design with 16" guns. It seems like the all forward layout was more trouble than it was worth. Design 16-A was never built because the global economic crash also occurred in 1929. The Nelson all forward design was copied by all major navies on paper (except Germany) because they thought the British were on to something with the Nelsons not knowing that with Design 16-A the British deemed the Nelson design a failure.

Thanks! Yes, the recreation looks realistic enough. I somehow doubt that it would be able to develop 31 knot with such a bow structure, especially on rougher seas. But apparently they simply did not elaborate on the bow structure at the time of drawing this sketch, instead concentrating on the general shape and layout of the ship, and the bulbous bow of Yamato was a further development.
i play wows and i got this ship design and i can tell the problemes with the ship first its accelaration i takes a realy long time for the ship to get to it max speed and second when the ship terns its very slow and it reduces the speed of the ship meaning its very dificult to dodge torpedoes and planes and the last probleme is how you angle her main guns whithout exposing to much of the side of the ship to the enemy i don't hate the ship its just that its not the best design and when play her you no to experience the flows of the design
The reason why some of the detail of this blue print looks weird is because the chef designer of this ship died in the year plan of Yamato has began(1935 January). And only thing he left is one concept art.
But I’m not trying to say we don’t have any detail so nobody knows what speed they have. According to some research with CFD, if we want tot speed up Yamato to 30kt we need to extend the range of Yamato to 40m which is almost same range as A140(301m). I don’t know is this helpful for your questions but I hope it will.
The wows ship which looks same is actually not this one. It’s one of the Yamato design plan but it’s must be Plan A140D or A140J or something near that. And this video’s ship is A-140 which is completely different things

You make the A140 look much more balanced than the Nelsons turned out to be. It was a very nice video, as all yours have been. As for the size issue, I believe such a large ship could have been built, but launching same would require floating the ship out of the building dock in lieu of standard stern-first launching; this would have avoided what happened to MUSASHI when she was launched. In fact, in a fanfiction story series I write, I have a fictional version of Warship #797 (called YONAGA) launched at Maizuru Yards by simply floating her out of a specially-built dock to prevent grounding of the hull.

If you want to have a glimpse what Nelson could have looked like without treaty restriction look up Battlecruiser Design I3 which was also armed with 18 inch guns. or look up HMS St. Vincent in the game World Of Warships that is based on I3. "I believe such a large ship could have been built". Building a giant battleship is the easy part. Maintenance is the hard part. Britain for example has the industrial might to build Yamato sized warships prior to WW2. But the problem is that there are only 2 drydocks in all of the British isles that can take this ship. One in Belfast shipyard (where the Titanic as built) and the other in Clydebank (that built the Queen Mary). There are ZERO docks in all of the British Empire outside the home isles that can service a Yamato size battleship let alone one the size of A140. You get more return to investment building TWO Alabamas than one A140 battleship for the same tonnage. When you think of building large battleships you also need to invest money in the infrastructure to maintain said large battleship. And when you are a global empire like Great Britain building large battleships will be even more expensive.
Interesting design! I would look into the USS South Dakota for insight into the gun placement. She had to fight off two enemies from two directions. That would not have been possible with all of the main guns at one end of the ship.
I think three guns forward is definitely worse in terms of actual battleship combat because the rear turret has such limited firing angles, and no ability to fire towards the rear, but, you have so much space on the back of the ship for upgrades.
There is another A140 design that is present in the game "World of Warships." The 3rd turret is turned to face the aft, like the layout of the forward turrets of the Myoko class. This shrunk the overall length of the ship (it made them cheaper), concentrated the main armor and gave more firing arcs aft. This design has so many versions in trying to solve specific problems. From a combined diesel and steam-turbine ratio, range, speed, and more secondaries, there is a whole host of solutions. This design is also one of the most plausible to be built as the size is doable compared to the massive A-140A, shown on the video, which is trying to reach 30+ knots with those massive guns onboard which in turn need more machinery space to achieve such speed hence the all forward approach.
yea i think izumo was based on the A140 design and i play her and she is a complicated ship to play i can tell you first you need good angles or you get sitadeled and then geting neer her top speed is a pain and when she terns she slow mining dodging torps is very dificult and then after terning her you need to regain the speed you lost that why if you play izumo you need to snipe ships and not get neer ships its question of skill yes but all so getting yous to the foes of the design
My father served aboard both the Rodney and Nelson during World War 2 and despite serving on other battleships including the U.S.S.South Dakota as a liaison he considered the Nelson Class the most comfortable in both the North and South Atlantic, the Mediterranean, and the Indian Ocean.

やっぱり実際の大和が洗練されすぎていますね。
トップヘビーになるかもしれませんが、リシュリューやアトランタみたいに三段重ねの背負い式ならもうちょっとマシかもしれません。
そもそもカッコよさは自然の摂理にいかに近いかで決まります。
人間のDNAも自然の摂理の一部ですから、自然の摂理に近い方をかっこよく見えるようにできています。
例えば重心付近に重量物を配置したり、山型にまとまっていたりなど。
なので戦艦大和は戦艦の究極系のような洗練されたデザインです。
重巡洋艦摩耶も、山型配置の3番砲塔を撤去した後はプリンツオイゲンみたいになってかっこよくなりました。
艦橋がもっとゴツかったらカッコいい気がするなぁ……(大和の最終型的な)

砲塔が近い場所に集中してるから一斉射撃すると大変な事になりそう。
計画としては古い方だからか対空装備が貧弱・・・あぁ大和も後で増強されたんだよなぁ。
航空戦艦かぁ・・・後ろの副砲取っ払って甲板にしてカタパルト射出とやはり伊勢みたいな形になるのかな。

どこかで見たことがある艦橋だと思ったら、鋼鉄の咆哮2ウォーシップコマンダーの日本戦艦の艦橋にこのA140の艦橋に似たものがあった気が…
鋼鉄の咆哮は蒼龍原案の艦橋や喫水線下が緑色の戦艦とかもあったので当時のコーエーの開発者がとてつもない変態(褒め言葉)だったんだなぁと思わされます。
あと個人的にA140は好きです。
伝統的で長門からの流れをケレン味なく素直に形にした初期案は魅力的ですねー この後かなりの難題をクリアする為に出来る限りの小型化を施した完成版の大和の形に技術者の執念が溢れ出している姿も捨て難いです。

資料をみるとタービンのみの案はこの最初のA140と最終のA140-F6なのが興味深い。
スロープ（大和坂）がない分、デザインに連続性がないというか、より艦橋が「お城」っぽい感じがします。
海洋を進むというより、陸上砲台で存在してたらカッコよいかも？？
で、A140の艦橋見て、なんかに似てるな～とモヤモヤしてたら、ドイツ軍のウィーン高射砲塔だと気づいた 笑
A140は金剛代艦の平賀案にも通じる部分があって好きですね。副砲は大半の射界で9門指向が可能なのは大和型にそのまま引き継がれているのも興味深いです。大和原案の前に金剛代艦平賀案藤本案の立体化も拝見したいというのは我儘でしょうか。

俺は戦艦作れるゲームでは必ずと言って良いほど必ずA140の設計のを三隻作るなぁ…何故ならやはりロマンがあるからだ!!…まぁぶっちゃけこの砲配置だとあの艦橋と後部艦橋の位置とかデザインで毎回悩むちなみに…武装は主砲41㌢三連装副砲は１５．5㌢三連装…主砲を少し小さくした理由は…斉射すると…射撃制度が物凄く悪くなるから…

A140のデザイン、昔から好き過ぎな人ですが、今回は３DCGに再現して頂いて感無量！有難うございます！！
現実の大和は確かに美しく、整ってはいるんだけど、何かまとまり過ぎてて自分的には面白くないので（元々扶桑とかやばそうなデザインが好きです）、この主砲まとめてどーん！と置いちゃいました！ﾃﾍ！という大胆すぎるデザインが大好きです。
戦艦はどでかい主砲をぶっ放せばOK!という構想を具現化したような… もう後のことは何も考えていないようなデザインが最高ですね。
当時の日本のドックじゃ建造できないサイズでしょうが300メートル近いデカさも好きポイントです。
４６センチ主砲を撃てるサイズとしてぎりぎり小さく纏めて（若干無理もある？）大和より主砲に見合った本来のサイズだったのではとも思うので、余裕のあるサイズのA140が大好きです！（めっちゃ個人の感想です）
動くA 140を見れてとても面白かったです。
できれば対空強化版や航空戦艦版、あるいは現代版のCG も見てみたいです。
ご検討お願い致します。

ぶっちゃけカッコいいとは言えませんが、自分は利根型の主砲集中配置が好きなのでこの原案は嫌いじゃないですね！46㌢連装砲塔にするとか41㌢連装砲塔を利根のように4基にするとか😅あと、スタイルはカッコ良く作り上げるのが当時から日本の特徴？なので結構カッコいい艦になったかも？？
やっぱ艦首に二基、艦尾に一基がカッコいいかな。

A140の戦争末期バージョン、防空戦艦になった姿をリクエストします。
坊ノ岬沖海戦で奮戦したにも関わらず大和は敵機を6機しか撃ち落とせませんでした。
A140なら46センチ砲が前部に集中しているので、対空兵装を大和より機能的に配置でき対空戦闘を有利にできたのではないかと妄想しています。
対空戦闘の場合46センチ砲の使用は事実上封じられてしまうので、A140が対空兵装を充実させ対空戦闘をした場合大和に比べ活躍できたか、あるいはできなかったのかシミュレーションした動画を観てみたいです。
大和が対空で戦果を上げられなかったのは 大和型に限った話ではなく 日本海軍の対空兵装に40mm対空機関砲もしくはそれに類する兵装の配備がほとんど行われず1000m~4000m内での対空戦闘が行えなかったのが原因なので 艦が変わったからどうにかなるってわけではない気がします

艦橋の形を洗練させてやればこの艦も格好いいって思えると思うのだけどなぁ…
ネルソン型に比べると艦形が長くなってる分、ネルソン型に発生してた不具合は軽くなってると思われるのですよね

A140案は某海戦ゲームの日本戦艦を思い出すよな…見た目が良いか悪いかで言ったら好みは分かれるだろうけど…大和型が美し過ぎるよな

戦後まで生き残って、現代化改修を繰り返していくと第三砲塔が撤去されてミサイル装備に置き換え、
後方のはヘリ運用って感じで現代の護衛艦の装備配置に近いのになっていくんじゃないかなと思った
素晴らしい動画ありがとうございます。A140は格好良いですが、ネルソン級にも影響を受けたと思われる、集中配置の46センチ九門の一斉射撃の爆風は、凄まじいものがあったと思います。また、万が一弾薬庫が誘爆した場合を考えると恐ろしいですね。やはり大和級は、従来の形が性能的には、バランスが取れている様な気がします。
大和型の出力でこの長さになれば最大速力が伸びると話もありましたね、空母設計に良かったかも
自分はリシュリュー級やダンケルク級が大好きなので主砲の集中配備方式は恰好良いと思います
しかし3番艦のクレマンソー以降は分散方式にする計画でしたし、ネルソン級のバランスの悪さ
を見ると中々使い勝手は厳しそうですね
20センチ（8インチ）砲の山形配置や利根型の場合はそれほど問題にならなかったがネルソンだと爆風が大変だと聞いたから46センチ砲だとどうなったか気になりますね
あと30ノット原案だと決戦兵器ではなく翔鶴型と行動を共にした遊撃役とも聞いたから形状は別に30ノット級は見たかった
大和原案の艦橋が前傾してるのは、極端な集中防御を目指した結果として艦橋と煙突の距離が異様に近接し、排煙の影響を抑えるために少しでも距離をとろうとした設計の名残なんじゃないかと想像してます。
原案の変遷の中で、機関は蒸気タービンとディーゼルの混載だったり結構迷走してますね。
Ａ-140はかっこいいとは思わない。ただ、大和やアイオワのような戦艦の完成形とはまた違う、進化途上のバージェスモンスターめいた魅力がある。
発展途上であるが故の洗練されきってない独特の美しさがありますね
個人的には全面の三連装主砲塔３基の高低差を３段階つけて敵に対して自艦の正面の投影面積を最小にしつつ主砲６門を前方に一斉射撃出来るようにしてみたい、形としては前方に三連装主砲塔三基、後方に三連装主砲塔一基と対艦ロケット砲と対艦VLS沢山搭載して😅で高速巡航で最大火力で一撃離脱的しながら逃げ切る最中に対艦ロケット弾と対艦VLSを追撃してきた敵に大量にバラまきながら逃げる
大和原案、扶桑型長門型の流れとしては割とありえそうなスタイルな気もするし、金剛型が大和型に与えた影響を感じたりもする。あと、原案型のスタイルからして後にありえた防空強化改修なり航空戦艦改修や歴史iｆめいた近代化改修も気になっちゃいますね。
艦橋がヒョロっとしてて、なんか悪い意味でゾワゾワします。コイツの航空戦艦化も見てみたいです。
主砲配置に一時代前感がありますね。赤城型戦艦後部の主砲配置を前に持って来た様な配置です。
艦橋も「扶桑」ぽい「違法建」感します。
後部の副砲集中配置はユニークですが、両舷側配置が大和初期に受け継がれているようです。
「饅頭の川流れ」はCGですか？勿体無いです。
格好良さの話ならA-140ってやつはやはり違和感がある
前半の巨大砲塔x3に対して後方は密集副砲っていうのはちょっと
あと、艦橋がなんか不安定な造形でぞわぞわするｗ
利根型の前方集中配置が成功したのは砲塔、砲弾が軽いから斉射してもそれほど問題がなかったとかそういうところじゃないかな
A-140は計画の艦型を図面にしてあるだけだと思うので、実際A-140を建造していたらもうちょっと雰囲気が変わっていたのかもしれないですね。

試作の時に、ちょうど1/2000で大和がでたから、５砲塔バージョンも作ったなぁ
This design looks very similar to Izumo in World of Warships.
yea i think izumo was based on the A140 design and i play her and she is a complicated ship to play i can tell you first you need good angles or you get sitadeled and then geting neer her top speed is a pain and when she terns she slow mining dodging torps is very dificult and then after terning her you need to regain the speed you lost that why if you play izumo you need to snipe ships and not get neer ships its question of skill yes but all so getting yous to the foes of the design

シルエットはA140は他にない新鮮さがありますね。
ただ、原案だけあって艦首が長門っぽかったり船体形状のバランスとか微妙に古臭さを感じるところがあって、大和の方が洗練されているのでこっちの方が好みです。
艦首の形状が古さを感じます。折角主砲を前方に集中配置したのだから、航空兵装を充実させるべきだったのかなと思います。改めて大和のバランスの良さを感じます。だけど、機動部隊に随伴できる高速性能は先見性がありますね！
ところで、主砲の配置をキングジョージⅤ世のように４連装２基、２連装１基の計１０門案もあったそうだけど、２タイプの砲塔を造らなきゃならないこともあって見送られたとか？だけど、やつぱりバランスが悪い！😸🤭

a-140は後部副砲全廃の上、航空戦艦にするのはありかもしれないですね。当時の造船士官の頭にアングルドデッキなるものが想像できたならば水上機ではなく、爆装した零戦を運用出来そうですね。
実現していれば大和型の戦艦で、形も良かったです。
