My grandpa had a wagon, my dad had and has a wagon… and I just love wagons, never really understood the hype around SUVs. I would take the wagon every single time.

I like wagons too, but there are a few reasons one would opt for an SUV. Unless in cross country spec, number one reason would be ride height, especially for getting in and out of the car especially if you are older. This also has a commanding view, and helps if you live in a more rural area. The other advantage is size, if you have a bigger family and need more seats, we are talking about an XC90 at this point. Other than that, an SUV doesn't make much sense imho.
EDIT: It is cumbersome, much heavier, which in turn means less efficient, takes longer to reach the same speed on same power train, harder to park and manoeuvre, higher cost to insure, much more expensive, people are more prone to dent it when parked side by side with other cars, etc, etc, etc...

but wouldn't be better getting in and out of the wagon since is closer to the groung ?
      Notherless I agree with you

@@rdve I'd love for that to be the case, unfortunately the body doesn't agree with the logic as you get older. Once you start making noises when coming out of a car, you'll know what I mean.

Have one on order in this color, Thunder Grey, for overseas delivery. CAN NOT WAIT!

Got mine (in Thunder Grey!) in November and just love it. Nothing else like it available with the combination of practicality, economy and decent amount of performance. I'm hooked on the one pedal driving too, just being able to feather it through a corner is lots of fun. Also in BC! Perfect car for the area imo.

I got mine last July and am similarly partial to the B gear. Love how it works even with the gas motor!

Hoping to get this one. Coming from an Allroad and then SUV, the ground clearance makes me a bit worried even with little snow here in BC. 😅 When you said "It's a shame to see this go, because not enough people are buying them." Hits a string. I drove both SUV and station wagon, but the feel of a wagon is where i felt home. Thanks for your review. Well constructed opinions and beautifully written scripts.

Just try to keep it out of the deep snow and of course, have snow tires.

I am looking at the V60 precisely because it is a wagon. Not only are sporty wagons cool, but I already have a very utility heavy SUV in my landy, I really do not want two SUVs, but I need something to transport my elderly mother and everything that goes with that.

I’ve been looking at new a v60 phev polestar and reading and watching a lot of reviews. I’ve seen a lot of people compare the e63 and rs6 to this wagon and I don’t think it’s a comparison at all. The rs6 starts at 125k and e63 starts at 121k. That’s 50k difference between those two and the Volvo. Secondly the size difference is something to note. The v90 is more comparable to the e class wagon and a6 wagon which those two vehicles are based on. Third and most important to me the performance and power of the rs6 and e63 is much greater than this 4 cyclinder plug in hybrid. Sure this makes good power but it still comes in shy by 150hp. I’m not knocking any of these vehicles, trust me I’ve tried to make the comparison because I want all three. And if I could justify spending a lot more on either of the Germans I would. but the v60 polestar is not in the same class as the e63 and rs6. Rant over, just wish car reviewers would realize this car in the U.S. doesn’t really have a fair rival.

Yes, I agree with you. That's why at the end I said the E63 and RS6 are not quite competitors to this. I actually did a comparison a couple years ago between the V90 & E450 wagons if you're interested in that video: ruclips.net/video/-l-WGdjMj_k/видео.htmlsi=nnZdsEIHWNccAslN

When I drove the V60 CC last year my only criticism (outside of that bloody infotainment system) was that the vehicle could have used more power. The standard car is acceptable but not what you'd call thrilling. This Polestar Engineered iteration thing brings it all home. The power, looks, practicality and performance is all on point. Estate cars aren't long for these shores and it's most certainly our fault since we choose what we buy. This is a nearly perfect car and it's a shame nobody will buy it. Great video Mike!

Yea the standard B6 powered cars are not exciting to drive like their German equivalents, but I don't think that's what Volvo was aiming for with those models.

volvo needs more paint choices. The polestar blue would be a bold choice, but I have seen some V60 reviews from Europe with the car in a beautiful burgundy, so more colour choices are out there, just not in North America.

Great review, I really like the look of that Volvo. I agree with you, I wish more people will buy station wagons in the future, although as you said that is unlikely to happen.

It takes a leap of faith to pay almost same money (or more sometimes) over an SUV or truck. But I enjoy the novelty of daily driving an automotive outlier, that is low centre of gravity and handles like a sports car (C43 wagon). It's not for everyone but it is for some.

Grew up, in the early 90s, in a Pontiac Wagon. I can't recall if it was a Safari; it might also have been from the 80s. It had a v8. Reliable? I don't ever recall that thing, ever, breaking down. Ever.

Unfortunately I don’t see 70K worth of value here. A Subaru can tow twice as much and saves 20K. The Volvo is definitely more luxurious but not 20K worth.

But you're also paying for 455hp, better handling, and plug-in hybrid capability. If you don't need any of that, then of course there are better options out there to suit your needs.

It's a shame there's no third row. I had a v40 and a v70r. Volvo driving experience isn't good if you want to really push it.

    • @MGReviewsBlog
      @MGReviewsBlog  6 месяцев назад

A 3rd row would be useless in a car like this in my opinion. I previously reviewed the V90 cc and the E450 wagon which had a 3rd row and even little kids wouldn't be comfortable in it. ruclips.net/video/-l-WGdjMj_k/видео.html
For a 3-row vehicle in this price range, the XC90 or TX350 would be the best alternatives.

    • @FRL2000

@@MGReviewsBlog V70 had a 3rd row option, very useful when needed for kid transport.
