  • The Volvo V60 T8 Polestar Engineered is one of my favorite cars that you can buy. It's a gorgeous wagon. It has 455 hp. And it can cruise silently when you want to thanks to the strong PHEV powertrain. This thing rules, and I want one

      @nouvelle_vogue The mild-hybrid B6s have the new electric supercharger. The T8s are turbo only. The updated electric motor makes up for what was lost with the supercharger on the low rev range.

      I appreciate them, but find me one that is fast and has 3 pedals. CTS-V wagon was a monster and now priced to the stratosphere. Saab 9.3/9.5 Aero Sportcombi are cool but now 10+yo phantoms (never see one). VW sport wagons/Alltracks are nice, but 3 pedals are few and far btwn, they aren't fast and diesel gate killed the allure of the 6spd TDI. no one makes a Golf-R like wagon (except VW). Subaru sells the Levorg everywhere but north America. Mini Clubman S/JCW aren't bad, except slow and overpriced (3 pedals are rare). So, show me a fast, sub $45k (new) in the US, and I'm there.... 🏁

      …so true. I love my fleet of mature bitches . My 1985 MBZ 300 TD Turbo takes her sweet time to get going and she blows smoke when rushed. Then there is the 1990 Volvo 245, so square and basic yet has the utmost reliability and divinely dependable. And there’s the 2016 Volvo V60 Polestar no words can express my thoughts on this for my 88 year old Mother has taken it for a test drive back in the summer of 2016 and she ain’t done with it still.

      Since new in November, my S60 Recharge sedan (same drivetrain, also beautiful), 9,000 miles, 103 miles per gallon, cost to charge ~$34 per month at $.17 per kWh. This compares to my last 4 cyl ICE at 29.7 mpg. Cost, about $15,000 less than the wagon. But I do love wagons, this car shares the garage with a 1998 V70 5spd bought new.

    The XC90 T8 is this same car with 7 seats and a slightly different form factor. They're _incredible_ road trip vehicles. Bowers & Wilkins, pano roof, 20" alloys, air-suspension are the must-haves. I got 168 mpg driving somewhere yesterday, and 68 mpg driving back. The return journey I had a heavier right foot and my kid in the back was giggling every time I floored it.
    You didn't even mention the safety equipment (cross-traffic alert has saved my literal automotive ass a few times now)!
    Great to spread the word though.

    The quality of Volvo's has always been outstanding and I love the fact that you can be incognito. The look of it is fresh and sharp but not arrogant or pushy. It is fast, drives smooth, has enough space for the daily needs and 90% of our drives is within the 30miles distances so mostly electric coming from our solar panels.

    I shopped around a bit, and the wagon type is going through the same thing as the hatchback in the late 80's and 90's. There are people who love wagons, and there are more of them than folks who want sedans. Unfortunately, there is a much bigger market for SUV buyers than wagon and sedan buyers, even the weirdly-shaped egg-SUVs which have far less usable space at the same wheelbase compared to a wagon. Buying decisions are emotional, and I've had conversations with many everyday drivers who repeat the same thing, "I like sitting higher up". On the other hand, Honda and Volkswagen - when every other company declared the hatchback dead - saw a different market, back in the 90s. I don't believe the wagon, as a design, is dead. It is undermarketed, and lives in the shadow of (frankly, and relatively) tiny and less competent SUVs, but the pendulum always swings.

I was smitten with it if memory serves. I got four hundred miles to the tank. And I am a full grown man as my wife is a full grown woman. And with our second child, it was like we're living in a small tent with two monkeys. And that's when we went on road trip somewhere altogether. My wife has her own car. Oh and I recently bought a non-running vintage Omega quartz from the 70s or 80s. I had a Swiss movement swapped in (non Omega) to get it working again. Then I have a cheap Timex that has a cool Day of the Dead theme on it.

    JG: It's 74k.
    Me: Umm, after TT&L, this is an 80k car. That is absurd. Jaguar pulled this garbage with their XF wagon, too. It's not that people are sleeping on this. It's that its intended audience doesn't have anywhere near the cash to afford it. Go pound sand, Volvo.

    • @TheHooniverse
      @TheHooniverse  Год назад +4

      I agree the price sucks... but it's also wild for a company to offer a car that is this good looking, has 455 hp, and can return very usable EV range. Plus, Volvo at the same time knows the market is small for it (despite all of us wagon fans absolutely loving it). So they can charge the premium and eventually phase it out.

    PHEV hybrid is the best of both world. You get to enjoy the EV superb quietness, smoothness and huge power starting from low rpm delivering monstrous 300~1150HP, achieving 2~5sec easily for 0~100kmh that was possible only in expensive sport cars previously.
    It has incredible fuel efficiency of just 3~5L/100km when runs on fuel, even with the extra heavy battery weight that gives low CG and good stability.

    Dealers and Volvo unfortunately seem dead set on making these things a total pain in the dick to get because they’re pretty much the only product they have with serious enthusiast backing and they’re woefully unequipped to deal with that type of product and customer.
