      Thanks for watching, definitely add potatoes on the bottom or cut up smaller. A subscriber mentioned she par boils hers first. I am going to be filming a pork and sauerkraut video later this month with my 82 yr old dad, so I am excited about that one. I have never done a crockpot version. Please let me know what you think. thanks

    I rinse my kraut in a hand strainer because of the high salt content, and mix my potatoes all thru the kraut so they can soak up more salt. I don't eat the potatoes but hubby does. I peel my potatoes.
    I will try the caraway seeds, dijon mustard n chicken broth. Sounds tasty...thanks!

    Potatoes are tricky; I either par boil them or first add liquids to crockpot on high setting and then once very hot add potatoes to bottom before adding other ingredients.

    I truly love kraut, but I would have added a white rice and shrimp, scallops, crab, and lobster, and then the kielbasa, but yours looks good too, but to much juice for my taste.

    • @MommaNeedsAGoal
      @MommaNeedsAGoal  2 года назад

      I recently decided to do this in the frying pan and I like it much better in the frying pan. I would have to agree with you, it is better with less juice. What you mentioned sounds absolutely delicious.

    Can you use beef broth

    • @MommaNeedsAGoal
      @MommaNeedsAGoal  Год назад

      You can substitute beef broth for chicken broth when making kielbasa and sauerkraut in the crockpot. While the flavor will be slightly different and much stronger, it can still work well in the recipe, and the beef broth can add a richer and heartier flavor to the dish. Just be aware that the flavor of the kielbasa and sauerkraut may be influenced by the choice of broth, but it can be a delicious variation. Adjust the seasoning as needed to balance the flavors to your liking.

    Almost cut the crap outta my fingers trying to get the kielbasas out of the wrapper. I also add about a half of an onion chopped (whatever is left in the fridge) and a splash of ginger ale to counteract the acid in the kraut.

    There was an audible gasp of horror that came over the internet when you cut that potato open and didn't see it right away. 😰 And what in the world is wrong with your family, that they don't like Sauerkraut! I'd be trading them in on a newer model! I will make this, but I would put my potatoes in first and cover them with the sauerkraut. The chicken stock with Dijon is a great tip! Usually I like my potatoes fried with onions for this dish and a little brown sugar with the caraway seeds for a Bavarian style kraut. 😋

    Sodium, fat, carbs. How about making your own sauerkraut and chicken stock, then use a less starchy potato, and hunt for a sausage that doesn't have as much salt and preservatives

      This is not the healthiest dish but it is a popular Polish dish. The whole point of this video was to teach you how to make this dish and also how to make this in an easy way in crock pot. It never claimed to be the healthy version of this dish. It does cut down my time in the kitchen when I use a crock pot. If you’re familiar with using a crock pot, then you know that it’s a slow cooker so you normally have to turn it on in the morning then 6 to 8 hours later, you come home to a hot cooked meal that is ready to eat. Yet, you still spend less time in the kitchen and don’t have to check on the cooking once you use the crock pot.
      My husband is Polish and he said he would not like it if I substituted the Polish sausage, Kalbasa, with a healthier version or a chicken jalapeño sausage from Trader Joe’s since it would be a completely different flavor than what Kalbasa is known to taste like. The flavor of all meat is more delicious in its own fat and bone. So, some people will add the bone of meat or broth from making meat also into a crock pot. It’s actually healthier since she used chicken broth in this recipe. So, it’s great to eat healthy but it will not taste as good and this video was not about the healthy way of cooking Kalbasa. The best way to eat healthy is to only eat chicken, fish or just become a vegetarian.
      Like you, I like to make things the healthier way but my husband is really particular about the Polish dishes he grew up on and knows that pork does not taste as good if you find meat with less fat or use chicken; therefore, that would not be called Kalbasa. You should make your own video and call it a healthier version of Kalbasa or call it a Kalbasa Substitute dish.

There is no excuse for their rude behavior and I will never understand why there will always be rude people writing rude and disrespectful comments. It says a lot about them and their character. Your videos are great. The issue is not you, these rude comments are coming from people who have a lot of unresolved issues and need to do themselves a favor and get therapy to figure out why they are so rude. I’m really sick of it and also see rude comments and bullying by adults on Facebook and all social media. God bless you and don’t let these rude comments and rude people get to you.
