    Throw your 2 young men into swags and let the sleep outside under the awning. Keep the living area inside for chilling out. Stay in one place for longer so its worth your time setting up the amazing annex room. That would be my fix. Thanks for the great content. You make the unit look so attractive. B

    Just a friendly reminder to all the adventurous viewers of this video. The trailer is Australian designed for Australian vehicle's. In Australian vehicles, the drivers side is the right side when sitting in a vehicle so the fold-out/cargo holder sticks out on the drivers side so the driver is more aware of it and the solar panel is commonly strapped to the cargo holder, not placed on the ground.
    Also, when on-road, other motorists tend to keep away &/or give plenty of room to vehicle's that are towing when possible.
    Happy camping 😉

    Howdy from Jolly ole' England! I'm a Yank that married a local gal after my USN career and stayed. We bought a used MDC Cruizer Highside (very close relative of the Jackson) and love it. We are preparing to take it behind our classic '87 LR Defender and ship to South Africa to spend a year doing a the bottom third of Africa. Is it perfect? No, but nothing is. It is absolutely the wrong thing for here in the the UK. It's way too wet here. It's best in warmer climes. We have the setup down to 5 mins. Like you, we only take the awning, the two sides and skirt. With the wind behind the trailer we have weathered through some horrific UK weather just fine and had amazing views while doing it. Fuel; you have the wrong drive train for towing anything big. I had the same problem. The Aussies and Africans always use low revving, powerful diesels that get 30+ miles to the gallon even while towing barge sized trailers behind. And I am swapping out my lovely BMW 3 liter 6 cyl petrol engine for the BMW 6 cyl diesel for the same exact reason. Having lived overseas for the vast majority of my life, I get a chuckle when my fellow 'Mericans worry about doors and coat zippers on the 'wrong side' ;-) It is what it is and you get used to it. Storage; dang little of it. But there are a few YT vids available from people who have these trailers and use them long term. Look up "Roamin in the Robbo" (bigger MDC trailer but same idea) for some great adventures in Oz. I hope you find what you need and I'm glad you gave the MDC a go. They really do have some good things going for them! Shame about the US side of the company not quite having it together yet. But trust me, you get more traction there with them than I ever will here in Old Blighty! Cheers from over here, y'all! (Ps. and, yeah, no kidding; people LOVE to ask about it!!!)

      Cheers man! Really appreciate you chiming in you're so right about a lot of this especially the drivetrain. The Aussies are so much better at off roading and overlanding than we are! Overall we got pretty attached to it! Thanks again for chiming in from the other side of the pond!!

    You seem to need something like the Topo2 teardrop with RTT. 1000lbs lighter than the MDC self contained. Or 2 RTTs one on a utility trailer like a lobotrailer and one on truck bed rack.

    from a back packer perceptive those rating for how every many people can fit is mainly for survival only. Just like the rating on your sleeping bag.

    Good review. Would you have purchased this with “your own money?”

    • @FarFromOrdinary
      @FarFromOrdinary  4 месяца назад

      That's a really good question. If our kids were younger, yes. But because it doesn't sleep (4) comfortably, for a family with kids our age, no. We would go to a really small trailer with an RTT, then put another RTT on the back of the truck.

    I’ve got the Jackson. When you say the Anderson plug needs to be connected directly to the alternator, is this correct? I wired mine with a fuse directly to my jeep battery… is this not correct?

    • @FarFromOrdinary
      @FarFromOrdinary  8 месяцев назад +1

      Yep it should actually go to the alternator because you want high-amperage. There's nothing wrong coming from the battery it'll just keep it trickle charged, but if you find that it's not charging enough when connected to your rig then def go to the alternator.

    • @ailo4x4
      @ailo4x4 7 месяцев назад

      The Anderson plug is the best thing since sliced bread for powering a trailer. It bring real current to the trailer house batteries instead of a tricle charge from the 7 pin connector. Worth every penny of installing it! Ps, if you have or switch to Lithium, you MUST have a DC-DC charger to manage them or it will destroy you alternator. Cheers!

    You will be hard pressed to get a real offroad trailer for a family I looked for 2 years settled on the Jackson due to construction of the trailer

    • @FarFromOrdinary

      I hear you there! The Opus is the only other trailer that sleeps 4 comfortably because of it's layout. The Jackson comes close but still falls short!

      @@FarFromOrdinary I think you need an excursion with an RTT, then you dont need to tow the trailer, same wheel base as the glad bigger motor and axles 😀
