Cosplayer here. You can take the shine out of a cheap wig by using a mix of 75%water/25% white vinegar. Spray it all over the wig, let it air dry on a wighead or stand. You can rinse it afterwards in lukewarm water with a tiny bit of fabric softener if the vinegar smell is too strong. The fabric softener will help with the shine and keep it from getting too frizzy as well. Let air dry again before combing it out and styling.
I wonder if I'm using the wrong liquid fabric softener or if I have synth wigs on which it just doesn't work. I've tried the fabric softener method on my Lapin d'or wigs and my Dream Holic wigs and it just makes them more shiny. I've used baby powder and dry shampoo but that makes them rough and hard to comb through, plus it might transfer on black clothing so that doesn't have my preference either. Vinegar also didn't work on my wigs. Edit; I also used baking soda, also didn't work.

Pro tip from a dressmaker: Please do not spend money on fabric shears to cut wig hair. If you do, get cheap ones and dedicate them to wig hair only. Otherwise you will likely struggle to cut a lot of fabrics and need to sharpen them often. Bonus tip #1: Don't cut loose threads. Use a needle to fasten the thread and pull it on the inside of the garment, and your clothing will be less likely to have holes or seams open up. Bonus tip #2: If you need to remove tags (or you make a seam and need to cut the end of the thread) use a thread ripper. Instead of cutting the actual tag, leaving behind unsightly frayed bits of fabric, you can just cut the seam of the tag and it will look like it was never even there! And if you're removing the tag because it causes discomfort, this will also be the best option. (If by "tag" you mean the price tag/brand label that is often attached with a piece of plastic, use kitchen scissors - spare your poor fabric shears 😋)

I have a tip- if you use tape ins, apply them in entire front area (from ear to forehead. Power your hair down the middle, and apply them parallel to the middle part. You’re going to need to apply the last few straight beneath the straight middle part! Be careful that it’s not completely visible . But yea. I used to do cosplay as a teen and cutting those cheap wigs is so difficult! Best way to cut them is just to point cut everything, a lot! And the best way to make curls is to put rolls on the wig and then put almost boiling hot water in a bowl and dip the wig in and leave it there until the water is cold again.

Wigs like this (not heat resistant) hairdryers, foam curl wraps (using steam to set) and steam work amazing (as well as using certain ethnic products). Heat resistant definitely give you more options for use of heat tools with them. The cheaper wigs do take more effort at times but to start of for learning they're worth it! The tricks I am going to share work for re-rooting doll hair (which looks just as cheap, shiny, and fake as this wig) that might have made this easier for you. Wrap the head form in cling wrap or an old plastic grocery bag before putting the wig on the stand. Pin the wig in place with T-pins. Place wig stand in a plastic dishpan. After cutting the wig to the length you want, do not use dry shampoo, a curling iron, or hot rollers. Use the old fashioned foam rollers with the hard plastic insides that snap closed on the end. Section the hair and roll it as you want. Thin sections will be extremely curly (not recommended) and medium to wide sections will produce a looser curl or wave. After rolling the hair, spray the entire wig with water so there are no dry areas. After wig is damp, pour boiling water over entire wig, one area at a time. Back, sides, then front. Let stand overnight. Carefully unroll a curl to see if it is what you want. If the hair is not curly enough, roll the curl back up and repeat the boiling water pour, or dip sections into a saucepan of boiling water. If the curl looks good after unrolling it, continue to unroll all the sections of the wig. Let the wig completely dry before brushing. The boiling water creates the curls and removes the fake shine at the same time. You can create a more realistic look by using different sizes of rollers along with medium to thick sections of hair. Remove the T-pins and style. Good luck and I hope you try this method.

Hey Brad, isn’t there a wig-specific brush that’s a metal pin brush? That’s what I’ve used, but yeeeaaah, a $19 crap wig isn’t going to give awesome results, generally. You want to use moist heat, a travel clothes-steamer works great. It will change the curl pattern or straighten it, without melting the plastic of the fibers. There have been wigs in the past few years that DO say a curling iron or straightening iron can be used, but on low heat levels. EDIT: I see you used a steamer, yay!! You know what the f*ck you’re doing, why did I even write this damn comment..LOL

Ok Brad....the cut was so uneven and don't get me started on the bangs. I wouldn't have used regular sheers, I would have used kitchen scissor. I'm so glad my mannequin head didn't have that kind of hair. I would have failed miserably. I guess the curls hide all the imperfections. Still one side is longer than the other
Saying this as both a fan and a cosplayer, they both look like they’re the same price Next time if you wanna try this again I’d use some cosplayers tips and tricks, I use this sorts conditioner bath for my wigs to reduce the shine and tangles for instance And to reduce the middle scalp part do a little weaving moment, one side over the other over and over again in very very small sections
Pro tip: do a ACV soak to remove the alkalinic film out of the wig that causes the excess shine. Detangle, put in 6 twists, and place in 1/5 ACV and 4/5 warm water for 30 minutes before working. It's going to also prevent itching

You probably already know this, but a little tip from the cosplay community: let the wig soak over night in a sink with some fabric softener and then let it air dry on a table or tripod the next day. It deshines the wig, helps it detangle, and depending on the temperature of the water you use to rinse (if you rinse, depending on how much fabric softener you needed to use) it can help reset the fibres where you want them to be. Mane n tail detangle also is helpful to coat the fibers in a silicone that helps it detangle, and deshines it a little more from what I've heard. I've only worked with fabric softener myself personally.

The uneven bangs are KILLING me lolol Too great Brad!
Can we talk about the amazing job of the editing with the special sound effect of "cutting hair" be alarming, even when its brad doing the cut?? Because i think its perfect 🤣
I've got some cool cosplay wigs in storage, and hope I'll be able to get to them by next summer, and you've helped me know what to do with them. Thanks beautiful 💜😎👍😘
i like how the before & after was like “ugh i hate myself” to “praise me, im hot.”😭😭
Ya did amazinggggggggg, don't be to hard on yourself. It was a 18$ dollar plastic wig, you did that!!❤️❤️❤️
Ok Brad....the cut was so uneven and don't get me started on the bangs. I wouldn't have used regular sheers, I would have used kitchen scissor. I'm so glad my mannequin head didn't have that kind of hair. I would have failed miserably. I guess the curls hide all the imperfections. Still one side is longer than the other
Who else wants Brad to give their hair an absolute makeover?
⬇️
Saying this as both a fan and a cosplayer, they both look like they’re the same price
Next time if you wanna try this again I’d use some cosplayers tips and tricks, I use this sorts conditioner bath for my wigs to reduce the shine and tangles for instance
And to reduce the middle scalp part do a little weaving moment, one side over the other over and over again in very very small sections
the outfit and hair that brad has is SERVING Draco Malfoy

Hey Brad✨💞Can we get haircut tutorial for long hair-long layers kinda Trend🙊
Yess please!
I could use that.
I fourth this vote!! 💃🏼🤩🥰
I would love that too!!!
Love your videos so much! I’ve been bald 25 years…. I’m a HUGE fan of your creative out of the box ideas! ⭐️⭐️
Hey brad💖💖 could you do a video on how to handle thick frizzy hair? Especially during the summer? Love you!
I like how in the first sentence Brad bleeped himself, yet we still hear
"sh!tty" -the word he bleeps 🤣🤣
Pro tip: do a ACV soak to remove the alkalinic film out of the wig that causes the excess shine.
Detangle, put in 6 twists, and place in 1/5 ACV and 4/5 warm water for 30 minutes before working. It's going to also prevent itching
Yes!! I got swindled when I thought I was getting many lacefronts when they were just like this! I've been waiting for a wig transformation that applies and this is IT! THANK YOUUUU!
Hey Brad! I don't know why, but your hair is giving me massive Spike vibes from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Nice style!! 🦇
THE WAY YOU CUT THE BANGS AGGRAVATED ME THE WHOLE TIME
Brad i have a recommendation for you...
Mackenzie Marie completely destroyed her her again about 8 months ago but she bought and dyed clip in extensions as well as bleaching her bangs. We need you to watch her it's been way too long without a video about her lol 😆
Honestly Brad between you and Dollightfull, that’s how I learned to not only style but also make my cosplay wigs look not only real (all synthetic non lace fronts cause I am not made of money I’m afraid, go Arda!) but incredibly convincing
I love arda wigs, they always come in clutch
When Brad says "There is way too much fucking hair on her head" Iam like "Thats what I want ! Please God give me some hair".
Omg the whole spike from Buffy vibe is ugh *chef's kiss*
Definitely a huge improvement from where it started. 💜
Gurllllll you look absolutely STUNNNING in just that blonde hair!! 😭😭😭😭😭✨✨✨✨✨🥹🥹🥹🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
"Colored hair has a lot of breakage in the front."
"Naturally hair is not this thick at the bottom."
MY HAIR IS ALIEN: CONFIRMED
All I ever need is that first line…”hi beautiful” 🥺
This makes me want to see him either react to anime hair or try to recreate anime hairstyles because that would be hilarious.
i think it'd be so fun for brad to like review cosplayers and cosplay wigs cause like animation and characters are so different from everyday wear
I will say that the after does look wayyyy better than the before 😂 great job Brad 💞😁👍🏻
6 seconds in and i’m already dying!! the beep did NOTHING 😂😂 what a vibe 🫶🏼
What an AWFUl cut Brad. You're all about sections so why didn't you use them at all here LOLOL and your scissors dont even cut , I feel that tho I wouldn't ruin my good scissors for plastic hair either
The blonde hair and black shirt are giving off Spike the vampire vibes and I am so here for it! Love it! xD
i'm sorry, did he not notice that the wig is uneven...?
Aside from your talent, you look so handsome in this video! The hair sleeked back, the brows, the jacket, you slayed 🤌🏻❤️
Brad, your new honey blonde hair looks fabulous!
Would love to see some new videos of you doing your own hair.
I was getting a Sandra Bullock vibe in the all done over wig. Made me happy.
I’m always so happy when u upload it
always makes my day so much better! ;D
Honestly, you did amazing. You know what would be even better, you collabing with James Mansfield. I would love to watch a video of you two working together on wigs.
Brad is the only person I know who can look good in any hairstyle and colour. And am so jealous.
My hairdresser said my hair was unnaturally shiny. And this Brad Mondo, is why I am using Henna.
What kind of Henna do you use?
You took it from trash to trash with a pretty bow on top. Not even brad can make a cheap Amazon party city wig look expensive lol
The ‘hi beautiful’ touches my soul in the sweetest way 😍
i love this certain shade of blonde on you Brad !! i know you have been every shade of blonde but THIS looks so good😍😍😍
Halloween is coming and this is exactly what I am looking for! Thx
OMG. I just wanna make this mandatory viewing for all my black women out here looking crazy in these horrible wigs. They are just a starting place! Not meant to plunk on your poor head and go! I just cut a gorgeous red loc wig for my mom. We had to take out at least a quarter of the locs, but it's so stunning now.
