- League of Legends' metas change constantly, and we've had some terrible metas throughout the game's lifespan. From spamming ardent censer on ADCs to unkillable tanks that one-shot enemy carries, League of Legends has seen its fair share of unfun and downright toxic metas that made the game unplayable. Not to mention the boring, stale Zeri/Lulu vs Lucian/Nami meta that plagued professional play for almost an entire season. Ironically K'sante right now is miles healthier now than tanks in season 12, 8, 6 and 5 lol
Laneswap meta was by far the worst meta of all time. There was 0 variation in pro play. 0. For an eternity.
I think it was kinda interesting bcs of strategy. Yes, it was 0-2 kills fot 25 minutes but it was interesting to see the strategies

@@skojuzija There wasn't really any strategy though. It was mainly the same thing, top laner helps jungler clear early on, then they become weakside trying to soak up as much xp as possible. The game was super afk, nothing was happening and no real variation existed. Like, sometimes something tricky would happen, but that was very rare and you could basically skip the first 15 minutes of the game. The fact that you could have a talented bot lane or top lane and never ever contesting the 1v1 or 2v2 was just stupid.

janna, lulu, karma, etc.
The Janna smite top was also made possible by the bounty system. Just worth mentioning.

I honestly think ekko should have been balanced as an ap bruser instead of assassin. Large area control and skill based stun on his w, a 3 hit passive that incentivizes slightly longer trades then most assassins, an ultimate that repositions, is aoe, and gives back hp, and a blunt force weapon rather than a more traditional assassination tool. He felt amazing to play as a tank, and while it was definitely unhealthy the way he was, I feel as if shifting him to an ap bruiser would have been more in line to the experience of playing him through most of his early life in the game.
Doesn't match his lore or power fantasy
His 3 hit passive does the exact opposite of incentivizing a long fight. It gives huge movement speed boost so you can dip in then dip out and the cd on it means you will usually only get 1 cycle of passive on an enemy in any given fight, even and extended trade
you want another sylas? i think ekko its fun the way it is. They should make him viable on jungle again
his ult makes him perfect assasin you can dive and fck up everything then you press r and try again. makes no sense on tanks

Crazy to think how many metas were dominated by 1 overtuned Item

But banner of command, holy moly that was the most boring thing to watch
@@whynachtsmann5796it wasnt funny at first. the ADC or midlaner would delete an entire wave with one auto attack. this would force both teams to only pick champions that built shiv, or else they'd just never get pressure.
Microwave tank meta.
Juggernaut Meta where Darius can go 1v5 and stay healthy due to his Q that can fully heal him and Illaoi's unkillable.
Obsolete ADC meta, where picking an adc means you're trolling.
Feral Flare meta, where the faster your jungler gets stacks, the faster you win the game. On hit champs where kings back then such as Yi.
Assassin meta where Fizz, Zed, Leblanc, and Katarina destroyed everyone back then.
Juggernaut meta was the most fun lol has ever been because adc wasn't a requirement
i think i know what you mean by obsolete adc meta. the only meta that made me quit playing league for a while. i main support off role adc and every game was swain heimer, anivia ziggs, xerath velkoz it was so incredibly boring
You forgot to mention about Conqueror meta, when in 10th season almost every assasin playing like a bruisers with Black Cleaver, Conqueror and Hydra. After several patches, Conqueror got nerfed, and some Fighters items
I always hated Talon Conqueror build otherwise Talon was a ward.
that was more a low Elo problem , thats why u doesnt even need to mention it :D every season is a Meta where some assasins can go off tank

kleptomancy before they realised giving items on top every 20s is a bad idea

Kassadin was a 99% ban rate in season 3

I'd rather have one broken character that is still beatable than 17 champs that all buy the same items.

@@kevinprinz3204mf really tried the “if u think that was op it’s a skill issue” when we had a literal top 5 champ in the game with ultra high mobility and damage+ heal doing instant tower shot cancellations and staying invisible .

I'm surprised you didn't mention that in ardent censor meta, some adcs started building relic shield as their starting item to funnel more gold into the support so they could get ardent censor faster. Buying sight stone before ardent censor was also trolling.
My least favorite meta is League's focus on skins and not having a permanent rotating RGM

"no other role mattered than AD Carry". Why is this such a common misconception?
Ardent meta was a SUPPORT meta. Supports were broken, not ADCs. In competetive pretty much 8-10 supports were banned every game, until people had to pick something like Taric with Ardent just to have it somehow.
For some reason supports can be as broken as they want to be, and nobody blames them. Only because they don't kill you themselves?
For aupport it was get Ardent than spam shield on ADC.
It wasn't impossible to reach that point quick, but ADC's still needed at least 2 or 3 items to deal real dmg next to it.
So in the end it was a race who can get their whole bot lane ahead faster.
Support can have is Ardent when the ADC only got 1 meanwhile the enemy Adc is close to finnishing his 2nd, it is pretty obivious who will win.
The moment both got the Ardent it became a handshake beetween the 2 and ADC was the one who metter since they are only thereto buff them.
ADC is and always was the strongest role when it comes to proplay and not soloq where the team just ignores them, meanwhile in pro if the team is able to protect them good they will deal tons of dmg what no oher role can compete with.
The meta was based around how powerful you can make your ADC to carry games and Ardent Censer with the appropriate enchanters were the way to go. The ADC was the one becoming broken from these items and being the problem, not the supports. If there were no marksmen on the team, nobody would ever care or this would never be a meta, therefore yes, no other role mattered other than ADC.
Because Supports are still reliant on the rest of the team to do anything. ADCs are the ones who are actually supposed to do the damage. A good ADC and bad Support still meant a
4.5v5, but a bad ADC and good Support felt like a 3v5.
It's the reason why the Support role is encouraged to be diversified. No one wants their entire gameplay experience to be attached to an awful player.
Devourer on yi was something else.
I loved the top laner jungle start meta and smite Ezreal with splash dmg on Q
I still remember the bruiser botlane meta, adc's were so useless that they just pick randomchamps on bot
Sunfire eve was so broken the entire stealth system got reworked and we got camouflag
Runeglaive meta was hilarious as well, but everyones forgotten about that one
Don't forget the Courage of the Colossus rune meta where tanks would get shields for CC'ing people so they were basically unkillable x_x
I had an 80% win rate on Hecarim out of like 30 games this season because of courage. Season 7 I think?
I still remember when tank Ekko top was a thing, being an AP mid ekko main I just said "This is blasphemous. Im staying AP"
then they buffed AP ekko and nerfed tank.

Ksante in proplay is probably the biggest piece of crap I've ever seen. The champ is so broken it's ridiculous, oneshoting fed midlaners and adcs
So devastated that people abused that gold funneling strat and ruined smite.... i miss taking challening smite/ignite shaco top and mid. That was very fun being able to steal camps and useful in duels and late game objectives. Cant even go smite on urf now without ruining your gold income

i hate that riot just takes assasin meta than puts it into tank meta than into bruiser than into this into that its anoying
the black cleaver thing worked because the %armor reduction could be stacked to up to 100% with enough black cleavers, turning any and all physical damage dealt into true damage
Its so ironic even in season 14 you still see Lucian Nami. Azir Corki or Orriana. Like it's to boring because I feel there is just a lot more champions that are good but they don't get touched.
far as I'm concerned, lucian nami stopped being a problem long ago. It was the Zeri lulu bot lane that was the lane bully hyper scaling carry problem, and Lucian nami was the only answer to that due to their obnoxious level of early dominance that can help snowball the game well before Zeri goes online and insta win the game. Now Zeri got a few knee capped, lovely job knee capping her, Riot, maybe chop her arms off too so I won have to see that abomination ever again. Now you see Lucian nami rising back due to new items and once again, other adc being kind of shit, but they were never the problem, just a symptom. But isn't that the whole point of balancing, leaving many options open without ever being so oppressive that they are the only option?
Black cleaver meta existed because the armor shredding passive stacked (enemies have negative armor now LOL). Once the passive was made unique, it was instantly gone.
i dont understand why every adc meta is objectivly bad. Ardent meta was my most favourite worlds to watch and my second most favourite meta to play after 2016 adc season. Quinn top gKindred jngle, ezreal mid etc

Season 6 tank meta was insanity. I remember playing tank Yasuo against a Zed and it legitimately felt like cheating.

Viktor top, when lethality was first introduced with the assassin rework in s7, courage of the colossus and the divine sunderer meta were awful aswell
Innervating Locket with Soraka or Udyr when game was launched. Just spamming abilities and healing endlessly
Goredrinker talon and goredrinker blue kayn still give me nightmares

A champion 👤 with 4700 HP 💪 329 Armor 🤷♂ and 201 MR 💦 has Unstoppable🚫, a Shield🛡, and goes over walls 🧱, has Airborne 🌪, and cooldown is only 1 second too🕐 It costs 15 Mana🧙 The W CD is even refreshed when he transforms 💫 He has true damage 🗡 on his Passive. Then, when he stacks 📈 Armor and MR 🥋 he gets Ability Haste too ⏰ Ability Haste to his Q ⏰ and his spell casting speeds up 🚀
Then, he has an AD ratio 🗡 so he has W... W is like eee 😡 aaaaaaaaaaaa 😱😱

Tank ekko was legit cancer. Can't get him low enough and in the event that you did. "Oh wow what's this button next to my e? Oh yeah!!!" *R* and then starts chaining ridiculous low cool down spells again.

Ardent Censor was for about 8~ months in 2017 -2018 so how tf was Zeri and Lucian a proponent of a meta that didn’t even exist anymore by 2023?

Unsealed spellbook meta. When the buffed i5 a bit than it didn't matter which role you played you took it nd kept swapping summoners through out the whole game.
I was a top lane main around S6 and I loved just absolutely bullying people with tank top, going grasp and just perma building iceborn + sunfire/spirit visage.
I think around this season the awful trio of ekko/maokai/poppy were heavily picked plus akali for awhile, it was hilarious being ekko/akali and having a billion mobility plus being completely unkillable.
League of Thunderlord's wasn't mentioned? Back when games were decided based on which team had more TLD on it. (It was a *much more* disgusting version of Electrocute for those who weren't around.)

janna top should also be there with sona soraka top from s10 but i forgot why they were good it was before obj bounties so no one could abuse it
I don’t really see much variation on pro play at this time and we are at season 14 and what happens ? Aggressive items get nerfed and restricted to be bought with others for absolutely bullsh*t reasons making it that the season didn’t change at all. At the time of typing this tank items haven’t been nerfed enough while others have not been nerfed at all, defensive ap items have more ap than the offensive ones and plenty of ad items are restricted to be built with other ad items, which will lead to another toxic protect the (crying) adc type meta (opportunity for another tank meta with tanks everywhere) with borderline unwatchable games

The first tank meta was the worst because of cinderhulk with old Maokai kit cuz his ult had a % damage reduction that was a toggle and his passive proc'd on buildings and reduced its cd whenever anyone, enemy or ally, CASTS spells within range, which made him an unkillable monster lategame who could genuinely 1v5 under turret and get a pentakill AND kill the turret. WITHOUT RESETTING ITS TARGETING FOR LESS DAMAGE TAKEN.
Remember Kassadin meta early seasons when he was perma banned literally every lobby
Yeah and if your midlander picked anything other than Kassadin in normals (which were all blind pick back then), they’d get flames by the entire team lol
Supps rarely have impact. Top supp smite is a work of art. Shitty metas: tank metas, assasin metas, juggernauts metas and double mages meta. They suck because get out of game roles like supp and adc and/or jg. They destroy how the game is supposed to be played

Runeglaive Ez should be in the list, it was corki mid but on crack and hit powerspike at 1 item that cost less than a standard laner item. He literally could 1shot any non-tank champ at 1 item

What are you talking about look at all the wide range of builds you can do now, and the amount of headache that the team has to go through to Nerf and to bumps are in champions. It's obviously that mythic items existed for a very solid reason, but everybody hated them because it made everything cookie-cutter
.. but you know, screw simplicity, and preventing really weird ass builds from showing up and then having to Nerf the items instead of the champion. Like crit la blanca...

This current season shows how much impact mythic items were that led to less diverse champs that we're seeing in pro play except T1. Therefore, i love this current meta except sundered sky, tf is that sht every bruiser and jungler build the same first item sundered sky??
On the other hand, one thing i hate the most in metas is ksante. Delete that champ.
