  • MUST WATCH: Check out Ben Whalley's Original Video Here: • Reverse Bulkhead & Co...
I first saw this idea executed about 1.5 years back by Ben Whalley, and of course it was executed to perfection. A few months later, another friend of mine, Dustin Hinds put it to use to replace Hollow Tie sections on a BT Game Changer style pattern. I decided to give it a go, and OH MAN! The Blends, the Bulk, the PERFECTION!!!
If you are familiar with working complex dubbing loops, this won't take more than a try or two to get right and its all down hill from there. For those of you who may not have as much experience, I hope this video dials in some details to ease the journey!

I like doing this on a dubbing brush machine because I can make longer runs of it and mix it all sorts of flash.

This was awesome. I have tried creating dubbing brushes from bucktail numerous times and found them difficult to work with. Would you recommend always using the lower hairs for this? That fly by the way was picture perfect. Gorgeous!

Hey Eric - The lower hairs are most compressible, so the Loop itself will fully compress the hair and LOCK it in. On a good tail, you can definitely use some of the Hollow Fly section (Middle third of the tail) for the added length and taper. I would be interested to know where Dustin and Ben select the hair from on their loops. I don't have enough experience with the technique to know how much differently they'll respond. I like Hollow Tying to much, and have only used it to finish a fly at the head to replace Reverse BULKheads. So I gravitated to the same hair selection on the tail to mimic the results.

@@Gunnar_Brammer hey man thanks for the detailed response. The idea of a bucktail dubbing brush has always sounded enticing to me but it never lays the same way as it does with a hollow tie for sure. I’m deathly gonna try it on the head of some of my next flies. Thanks again man!

    Great looking fly and tutorial.
Maybe I missed it, but did you clean out the shorter hairs before putting them in the loop?

    Gunnar, привет!
Большое количество твоих клипов начинается с середины изготовления приманки, а где то есть начало? Хотелось бы увидеть с момента закрепления и показа упаковки материала, чтобы мы могли понять , что из чего и как делать?
    Спасибо.))
