    Dear NEOGEO guy.
I just wanted you to know how much your vids about the neogeo games in order coming out- have got me through a very tough time.
Ive recently lost my dad. My dad bought me my entire sega collection and more but life dictated i had to sell all about a decade ago and for a too low price... although most of my machines were not mint - but more well loved with many many many miles on the clock so to say!!
I never got to own the mythical neogeo but i am very greatful for emulation.
Thanx to emulation i have my entire collection back plus all the arcades i dreamed of...and of course neogeo. Having an 8bitdo mini controller hanging off my car interior mirror with everything on my phone is pretty cool.
Regardless, thanx to dad we will be set up for life as we were dirt poor, so id like to get a consolised mvs at some point.
He left me a property, a nice car (Peugeot rcz) and about 160k.
However, this takes time to come through.
I miss him so much and would trade it all in to have him back.
Alas thank you for getting me through with hard depression. I know a lot about the neogeo and thought there wasnt anything else to learn... but ive learned a lot from your uploads.
    I also adore you intro.
Reminds me of my nephew and i playing mega bomberman on gene/drive on a tiny black and white tv, whilst bein shouted to "go to bed" because even though the sound was down, we laughed a little too hard and loud alertin the adults 😂
    Anyway.
Much love and look forward too the next upload.
    Much love
    Your
    Order Of Magnitude

I dreamed of having a Neo Geo as a kid. It wasn't even a thing you could find at my local stores. Kids who DID have them (asians) were kids who's families would take trips to New York on the weekends. I wanted one so bad but somehow knew I'd never get it. Kids at school would talk about how expensive it was.
But this Laundry spot down the block from me had the arcade cabinet for all the Neo geo stuff. Fatal fury, World Heroes, Samurai Showdown etc. God I spent tons of quarters there. Those games were so amazing at the time. Especially as an American kid who only had access to Street Fighter and MK.
Eventually, like 1994, I got a copy of Fatal Fury 2 for SNES. Then played it all in ports later in life. But man, when all this stuff was new to you, it was groundbreaking and revolutionary. The graphics.

As soon as I saw it was 53 mins I made sure to grab a beer, and take a beautiful stroll down memory lane.
That was amazing! Thanks so much for this vid! I only recently picked up an AES after spending my entire childhood dreaming of owning one. Playing the games in arcades for hours.
I never played the first FF as a kid, but after I picked it up recently I honestly fell in love. There's a certain charm to it and the jank makes it kind of fun to me. Granted SF2 is the better game, but I think it's as you put it in your video, the story, the sound, the characters..that's what makes this game truly unique.
Also I think Geese survived by landing on the tent canopy you normally find on building entrances, and it broke his fall. Plus the muscley back. lol!

Southtown was special. I don't think any other fighting game franchise has a setting as fleshed out as Southtown, the place is a living, breathing city, and each stage is a specific location denoted on a map in which your tiny little avatar moves between matches. And this city has it all, residential areas, slums, bars, night clubs, shopping districts, factories and so on. Its all a bit primitive in this first game though, which takes place entirely on the small peninsula area to the west on the city, but later Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting titles greatly expand on the various locales, with both the Pao Pao Cafe, Sound Beach and Geese Tower introduced here becoming staples of the city and of SNK.

    • @BknMoonStudios
      @BknMoonStudios 2 года назад +2

I love how Fatal Fury 3 shows a full map of the city, then transitions into a panoramic shot of the location where each fight will take place.
It's also neat how FF3 shares many locations with FF1. The Pao Pao Café, Howard Arena and Sound Beach are instantly recognizable.

    • @kwizzeh
      @kwizzeh 2 года назад +1

I'd argue Metro City, but it took Capcom a long while to fully embrace it even though SF has had its fair share of stages (usually just one) in SF games.

Playing since 1984 and managed an arcade for 16 years Till about 4 years ago when it closed. Held on through the pain cuz I knew the day was coming and I wanted to see the job from start to finish. Good work here. Was also into SNK since this game here was really coming into it's own and spotted it in an arcade on a trip to Colorado from my New Jersey home as a kid. I was drawn to it because someone important in my life was named Terry. Turns out that much like Bogard, he wasn't always staying in one place, and worked various jobs. But he wasn't exactly a martial artist, but knew a life past, though completely legal, was one he didn't want to stick with.
Granted I didn't know as much about all that other than he was in my life, was much nicer and more understanding to me than my father, and shaped my life a bit early on before he had to leave. Turned out due to something between him and my father. One shaping point of my life led to another. A favorite character in a favored medium of gaming that wasn't by far yet considered the sheik choice but as I was, it was growing and with deeper and deeper thoughts and goals.
rather like seeing videos about these past gems, especially when ye ol Bogard comes back up.

It's quite rare that I comment on RUclips but I really wanted to say that your channel is really amazing and became in few days, one my favourite one RUclips.
I discovered your channel thanks to your video on Legend of heroes III: White witch on pc-98. I completed the remake on psp few days ago and I was wondering how does the game look on original hardware.
I love Japanese games but Japanese pc always was my blind spot (with pc engine). I really enjoy how you show the original packaging and explain all the process which allows you to play.
Same for your neo Geo playlist, I love the fact that you follow the productId order. At the time of the PlayStation and PlayStation 2, I always looked at the productId on the side of the box and tried to order my collection by this number.
I am currently stuck in the bed due to sickness (not something very bad just a strong flu) and your video really kept me entertained. I also learned a lot even about games that I already know like Fatal Fury as you explained a lot of details and reference.
Thanks a lot for your video !!!
PS: I will be very interested to know more about exclusive Japanese rpg on pc engine like Tengai Makyō. I don't know if you plan to pc engine playlist as a lot of famous games looks to be port from pc-88 or 98. I saw that there is a fighting game spin-off of Tengai Makyo on Neo Geo so you will maybe talk about the series during this time.
PS2: In one of your old video, I think it was Tokyo Xanadu ex+, you said that you never played persona. I hope you had the occasion to play at least Persona 5. I know they are quite time-consuming type of game and it aren't really compatible with adulthood (I was quite lucky to do 3 and 4 when I was in highschool) but they are really good J-RPG which is quite rare nowadays.

What Fatal Fury did on NeoGeo was be a game that told something of a story, and allowed the 2nd player to be involved in the 1 player mode fights. And in regards to that aspect of things, it holds up. It also had a lot of personality. The backgrounds are much more lively than on SF2. Yes, the game doesn't play as well as SF2. But kinda looking back at the over all experience I had between the two games, I enjoyed Fatal Fury about as much as SF2. And Fatal Fury didn't try to be SF2. It brought its own gameplay concepts to the table, that carried on into later games in the series. It did its own thing, and it worked.

And that in Art of Fighting Karate wound up being a character and ultimately Ryo's father. Seems like a lot of people don't make the realization of the relation of the Karate in one game and art of fighting as it is. But neat that it was picked out here that the music was re used.

I always loved Fatal Fury, ofc street fighter 2 was more famous, ofc everyone was doing hadoukens and having a SNES with sf2 was the dream, but man... I will never ever forget that first time I saw Terry fighting against Tung Fu Rue, the first round was impressive enough with the best Tung theme ever ( 4000 years of Chinese history, what kind of badass name is this ? ) With the wind blowing on the trees while you are fighting an enraged hulk like Tung, but the second round... Oh boy the second round... That pouring rain, roaring thunder, and roaring more Tung Fu Rue, the loud thuds thuds thuds when he hits his chest, in contrast with his theme. Yes, it left a huge impression on me, history and the masses will keep mentioning street fighter 2, but Fatal Fury had that classy badass personality that was unique and like nothing else there ! I'm a HUGE Snk freak. I couldn't have a Neo GEO home console as a kid/teen since they were pretty rare in Brazil, but MVS cabinets were abundant! By the time the Neo Cd became more "popular" they were sold here by the Brazilian branch of Snk and I could see a lot ads in magazines, but I did what a sane persin would do in 97 and got a Psx instead.
Bc of that I spent most of my childhood playing the Snes ports from Takara - little I knew how weird some of them were compared to the Genesis and NGeo ones, since I used to think they were better bc of the clearer sprites and sound (I love how ART OF FIGHTING sounds on the Snes) - and played the dubious Psx ports that got better and better as time went by. I knoe the tunes can sound more similar to ogs on the Genesis but the hit sounds hurt my ears a lil bit haha.
I was only able to truly check MVS titles with NeoRageX in the early 2000s, and got all the Snk collections released for the Ps2 (I still collect everything related to Snk for Ps1 and 2).
Well, that said, it's no surprise how much I love everything about Fatal Fury and its lore. Your video is simply the BEST thing I've ever seen about the series. Thanks!

I prefer some of the SNES ports to the Genesis ones. Just not in this case of this game.

I know I'm probably the only human being on Earth that does this but I go back to fatal fury 1 to play it all the time but I very rarely go back to even super Street fighter 2 let alone the original release of Street fighter 2
Funny thing is I can't get into fatal fury 2, special and three. Especially fatal fury special. I never understood why the Japanese love that game so much

So far this is my favorite fighting game for the Neo Geo. I don't care for the combo-based mechanic fighting games where you gotta memorizes the combos to win; and hate games with infinite combos where you have no chance of recovering. Here it's different, it's about timing 1 attack to hit.
This game I'd say is less comparable than Street Fighter 2 and more comparable to Punch-Out (even though Punch-Out isn't a fighting game), where that game is about memorizing the patterns for the enemies to win.
39:30 Kicking the main bad guy out the window of a tall building is probably a reference to "Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man" which came out a few months before Fatal Fury did.
41:33 I've managed to do it.
44:46 Inflation happened, as well as supply & demand.
52:07 I have, uploaded it here on RUclips. 1CC it on Hard. The AI are input readers, you gotta turn their strength into their weakness. They react the same way when you do a move, so you can counter against that.
53:03 I managed to 1CC that on Hard too. Though, the 2nd game seems to be harder. I have yet to manage a 1CC on that one.

If you have to play to win then yeah. But if you play casual, the newer fighting games are a lot of fun.

Ah man…grew up in the 90’s and Fatal Fury series hold a special place in my heart because it felt like real fighting
Street Fighter was good too don’t get me wrong, but Fatal Fury animations were better in my opinion…especially when you knock out an opponent and the ring outs

What a HUUUUGE stepup in quality in the last few chronological games from Legend of Success Joe (NGH029) to Legend of Success Joe Higashi: Hungry Wolf Battle of Destiny (NGH033) as I call it in my head-canon since I absolutely LOVE Joe Higashi and always main as him. ^_^ (the next few look to be a bit iffy though except for maybe Crossed Swords)

Duck King is the classic joke character that you start mocking because he looks quite ridiculous but you become a die hard fan once you realize he is a pretty good character and quite a bully in the Real Bout series and has a sidekick duckling who mimicks him during fights.

Technically Billy Kane does not have a cane, he has a Staff specifically a sectional staff. I just can’t recall if the “sectional” was used in the first game, I know it was later on. I chalk up the pronunciation to early SNK issues. I mean listen to what Terry says when he does a Power Wave.

I am looking forward to your video on "World Heroes". I have fond memories of playing that game in a smoky Arcade called Silver Tips in the City I grew up in. Although the game kind of sucked it was also out in the same time frame as Street Fighter 2 and I started playing it due to the Street Fighter 2 cabinet having quite a lineup in order to play it. Not only that but due to having to wait in line to play, you were always playing vs. a really good human opponent. I wasn't that good (average) at SF2 and the people staying on were amazing. It was basically put my quarter in lose 2 matches and then done. So World Heroes was my back-up... lol.
