    Those 2 men should be "the Godfathers of Fighters" as it's their work in SF & later SNK fighters which set the standards for the genre.

    I remember dreaming of owning a Neo Geo as a kid. But I grew up in a podunk town so our local mall wasn't really the upper echelon of keeping up with the latest in gaming. So to this day, Ive honestly never even physically seen a Neo Geo console.
    But man, did SNK open me up to a world outside of Street Fighter. I loved Street Fighter, like any other kid. I also liked Mortal Kombat, but it was secondary to me when it came to SF.
    Then I discovered Fatal Fury at the Laundromat by my parents house where I grew up in the early 90s. man I would go there every day to drop 2 or 3 dollars in quarters. Fatal Fury, to me, had so much that was different in a cool way from Street Fighter. I remember loving Terry Bogard's character design with the sneakers and jeans and red overshirt. That was me as a kid! lmao I thought it was so cool. Then the story was really deep, and I thought the little map of running all around town taking fights was cool.
    There were so many details and firsts that sucked me into the game. Among them are:
    -The noticeable echo when the fighters are yelling. It really does sound like they're fighting outside. That stood out to me big time.
    -The first time Tung Fu Rue morphed in a fight with me.
    -The first time Hwa Jai started drinking mid fight and I didnt know what was happening.
    -The first time I realized that Billy's club is a part of his character IN a fight.
    -The first time someone knocked me into the background. I stayed frozen for a few seconds trying to figure out what happened.
    -This was the first time I ever saw time change between rounds (round1 at day/round2 during the evening etc)
    -The first time Richard Meyer started dancing on his hands. So disorienting.
    It's also ironic that FF's art is what dragged me in, because shortly after discovering the game I had the good fortune of seeing the 1st and 2nd animated movies which filled in a lot of blanks.

      I didnt get a chance to own one until the late 90's. I eventually owned all three versions (MVS, AES and CD), Man I wish I had those again, I first played MVS with a cabinet with fatal fury 1 in it back when it was new/current in a grocery stores' MVS cab. I remember it getting samurai shodown 1,2,4, etc. Good times.

    I really enjoyed Fatal Fury growing up right along side Street Fighter 2. My go to games every time I got my hands on some change. Then came along KOF 94' and that really blew my mind up😂 Neogeo Fan for Life!

      Owning an SNES at that time, I enjoyed the FF Special port more than SSF2. FFS was really well-done on SNES vs SSF2 which felt like a downgrade from the SF2 Turbo: Hyper Fighting SNES port. Super SF2 Turbo being a newer update in arcades didn't help Capcom, here. They should've waited and ported SSF2 Turbo to the SNES, instead 🤷‍♂️

      Same, I absolutely hated when people called Fatal Fury a SF2 ripoff. Fatal Fury was more like an evolution of street fighter 1 than a rip off of 2.

    Also for SF Alpha Capcom took the 2 player aspect of Fatal Fury 1 which we all know in SF Alpha as the "Dramatic Battle" where BOTH Ryu and Ken Vs M.Bison.
    Which comes back in Alpha 3 when you face Juli and Juni if you use Cammy, Rose and Chun.
    Great Video Nabil!! I now am really excited for City of the Wolves after seeing this video!!!
    For lore I'm curious if Rock will be the main villain this time for City of the Wolves because in the ending of Garou, Rock sided with Kain leaving Terry.

    This was my favorite boss game ever. (I don't consider it a fighting game in the same vein as Tekken or Samurai Shodown; different mechanics.) At a time when fighting games were baffling mysteries to me, I could _figure out_ Michael Max and Tung Fu Rue and Hwa Jai and _beat them._ Sure I got pounded sometimes, but I always got something out of the experience. And Geese was the rare final boss who was a total beast but with exploitable weaknesses, and it was _highly_ satisfying to finally beat him.
    This was a great game for its time and instrumental in making a lot of arcadegoers, myself included, big Neo Geo fans.
    Oh, and because of this game, every time someone goes "REEEEEEEEEE!!", I think of Andy Bogard. Every. Time.

    I never saw the arcade version in my youth, but I did play the Super Nintendo version much later on which was my introduction to the franchise. The plot structure felt like a throwback to those low-budget martial arts action films from my youth, but I mean that in a good way of course. I did eventually play the Arcade version through the PS2 collections decades later.

    South Town is in Italy. It's supposed to be in Italy. The first game takes place in a European setting. The bridge from Billy Kanes's stage is The Strait of Messina Bridge. That's why Andy's stage in Fatal Fury 2 is clearly Venice, Italy while in KOF 94 they represent Italy. When Terry and Andy split after their father was murdered Andy went to Japan while Terry left to the U.S. which is why his manner is that of what the Japanese think an American teenager in the 80's looked like. Most people say South Town is in Florida, but Duck King's stage has a subway train in the background. Florida didn't have a subway esque public transit til 2014. Plus the train resembles the Italian style subway cars. Not to mention how Florida does not have mountains near the ocean cluttered with European style buildings.

    • @NeoGeoNow
      @NeoGeoNow  Год назад

      The official story from SNK states that South Town is in Italy. Also in the KOF Kyo rpg where you travel the world it shows South Town is in the USA. Andy stage is indeed italy. As for why KOF94 has the FF team as team italy, itvis explained in the story that Terry, andy and joe were vacationing in Italy when they received the invitation to KOF.

    • @soapdog6531
      @soapdog6531 Год назад

      @@NeoGeoNow The point is that South Town is supposed to be in Italy while now it seems, since KOF screwed up the timeline anyway, it has migrated to the United States. It doesn't help that idiot game reviewers continue to perpetuate this ignorance.

    5:34 "The player can jump from 1 lane to another to avoid projectile attacks.." This is not true, only the CPU can do it and then only the player can pursuit.
    Starting from Fatal Fury 2, the player can do this manually by pressing A+B buttons.
