Fatal Fury 2 was the game that started it all for me. I remember watching a lot of people playing SFII, Mortal Kombat and Street Smarts in the arcades back in the early 90s... but Fatal Fury 2 is what really got me in the genre.
It holds a special place in my heart. Pun probably intended...

I remember playing fatal fury 2 to Death at the arcade aside with world heroes.
I used mai alot I was more interested in fatal fury 2 than mortal Kombat.
Later I would get the SNES version.
And play that alot. I was trying to find a way to watch the anime version as well.

My 1st SNK discovery was in the Genesis playing Fatal Fury 1 and 2. I have so many fond memories of playing Fatal Fury 2 on the genesis and i remember Billy Kane, Mai and Axel Hawk being my favorites to play. Also IMO SF2 Hyper Fighting was when SF2 became the most fun and aesthetics we know today like Chun's fireball, the famous "red fireball" clipping glitch for Ryu, the arching Shoryuken of Ken, the Kick Lariat of Gief, the "Turbo" making the game Fast paced and fun opposite to Fatal Fury Special slower paced gameplay funny enough was done by Capcom USA's James Goddard who Creator of Dee Jay.
But Regardless SNK forced capcom to up their game with all these versions of SF2 refining it while Fatal Fury Special a solid entry. It's just unfortunate that Real Bout Special and Real Bout 2 which are imo the best Arcade Fatal Fury games where overshadowed by the Success of KOF fans just gravitated to KOF and forgot Fatal Fury up until Garou Mark of the Wolves.

Man you're totally right. If it wasn't for the Genesis ports of Samurai Showdown, Fatal Fury 1, Fatal Fury 2 and World Heroes who knows when or if I would have ever gotten sucked into the SNK fighting game universe. I'm also with you in that Real Bout Special and RBS2 are the best in the series but Fatal Fury 3 was a lot of fun for me too stringing together combos 😃

While most gamers here in the U.S. got introduced to one-on-one fighting games through Street Fighter 2 on SNES or Arcade, I'm one of the few that got introduced the opposite way through playing Fatal Fury on the Genesis first. Then in 1994 while browsing through a local pawn shop I saw Fatal Fury 2 for the Genesis which shocked me because I didn't know Fatal Fury had a sequel much less a port on the Genesis. I bought the game for $20 bucks without hesitation, immediately brought it home and when I realized it supported the Genesis 6-Button controller and you could press Z or C to switch planes on the fly or do side-attacks to knock opponents to the opposite way without needing button combinations gave the game way more strategy and quite honestly better controls than even the Arcade 4-Button layout. Once I got my hands on Special Champion Edition I started to gravitate towards Street Fighter games more over the years, but Fatal Fury and especially Fatal Fury 2 will always be my first love that I come running back to in remembering the good old times and enjoying a fantastic gaming series! 😎😇

Fatal Fury 2 did NOT really rival Street Fighter 2 if you're focused on gameplay. Yeah it introduced a lot of memorable new characters, with great backgrounds and music, but the gameplay ain't all there. Why? Zero combos... it's impossible to continue a combo on somebody already in hitstun (at least on the original Neo-Geo version). It makes matches feel like weird pokefests because often the only thing you can do to really punish a big whiffed move is throw. It's very dry and boring. There's a reason you see Fatal Fury Special still played to this day in tournaments by diehard players, but you will find pretty much no Vs. play of FF2. There's just no point, Special completely obsoleted it.

Seems like you are only reading from the booklet of these games. When you present the characters, you just say what the game tells you about them, not what you think about them, and it feels not organic.
You have amazing footage, and again, I love what you are trying to do. But it is so generic, those videos are not "must watch". I disagree almost completely, Fatal Fury 1 is one of my favourite games but FF2 is, in my opinion, in many ways a step back. The graphics aren't appealing at all, take Terry's stance for example, in FF1 feels smooth, fluid, the art is amazing, that one resembles of those of Street Fighter 2, in FF2, the animation feels cheap, the art is just not good, almost like a bootleg, doesn't feel like an arcade game (FF1 did), it feels like a generic Sega Genesis fighting game, and this can be applied to every character. The sound has nothing to do with the vibe that the FF1 presented, that "echo" was replaced for cheap grunts and samples, the same can be said for the music, nowhere near the epic FF1 ones, in this case i can say that not always more is better. FF3 presents something way much more interesting than FF2. And to be honest, many new characters are horrible. In my opinion, in FF1 everything is classic, but in FF2 everything feels like a rushed product. See ya.
