Really liked these 3 episodes. Finally this series has a more mature feeling. No corny jokes or forced comedy. Seems to have more budget than previous series, all the directing and sound design is far better. I hope it delivers.
@@Michael-bk5nz kinda reminded me of wall e but it was still a good scene, non verbal scenes are always welcome and is the star wars way , if they omitted that scene it would have been less interesting cutting to droid first talking to andor
They take their time. They pay attention to detail. They make the story hold up the suspension of disbelief. They show not tell. It looks lived--in, fantastical and vast. It's kinda sexy too. I'm here for it.
I am actually blown away by this show. I love it so far. New locations, new factions, no reliance on call backs. It feels like a ground level look of the universe.
These feels darker and much better done in terms of writing/action/directing than the others. I love the feel of it and the music has actually accompanied the scenes very well.
As far as I'm concerned this series is starting out on the right foot. I like the introduction of some of the key characters, including Cassian Andor himself, giving hints to their motivations and why they hate the impire so much. Looking forward to following this series all of the way.
I liked it, especially 3. Thanks for explaining so many details. I think I read Karn wrong. It seemed that after he saw the hologram of Andor, his attitude changed and after that he seemed really reticent about the whole mission. In one of those last scenes, he froze and was standing there frozen. He seemed traumatized. I got the feeling that when he saw the hologram, he realized that he recognized Andor and knew him and then felt completely conflicted.
My take on him was that was his first real life mission. A complete novice in the real world who wants justice for the two early deaths. I think at the end he’s in shock at what went down. He thought he’d just walk in and get him. From here on i reckon he will double down on hunting Andor down.
I wonder if anyone else noticed: Cassian's tribe consists very strongly of young people/children, there are not the same number of adults around, and they live like they are displaced. They pass a huge mining pit, (where cassian stops) on the way to the ship, so it seems we see the reason for their displacement. And if this is the Republic (and I guess it is Clone Wars/Palapatine's republic) then it is clear, why Cassian won't have good opinion of the Republic. The Republic offices goes "shoot" first, once he gets off the ground, in spite having a youngster standing there. Which says a lot more about the Republic in those scenes.
Yea I was thinking all the adults must have died in the catastrophe they mention in the corporate scene with the company officers. And it would explain his "Ive been in this fight since I was 4 yrs old" line from Rogue one. Cause he's definitely older then that now so maybe he's counting from the day he was orphaned. Maybe he was 4 and his sister was 1 when their family died.
Honestly it reminded me of the Han Solo trilogy written by Brian Dailey. The main antagonist in those books was called The Corporate Sector Authority. They were affiliated with The Empire and were in some ways more ruthless and viscous. They wanted control of their areas without getting the attention of the Empire and they allowed things the empire didn’t. The books are Han Solo at Star’s End Han Solo’s Revenge (best of the series) Han Solo and the Lost Legacy.
Loving Andor so far, definitely something very new in the stars wars world, gives off rogue one vibes very well which I love, shows gonna probably get so much better as the other episodes drop
Loved it, all 3 eps. Right up my alley. Yes little to no fanservice... can be slow somewhat, but it's so well made, shot, directed and acted for what it is... world building, character building, stakes, you get a feel for what they are going for very early on.
I LOVED these first episodes!! Also agree, tatooine is beyond uninteresting. It makes zero sense that so many of the stories are centered around it when it’s supposed to be this far-out world 😂😂
Things start happening immediately. You just mean no flashy action because you don’t have the patience for dialogue regardless of how good it is. Less talk more explosions.
Looking forward to the rest of this series. Can't say it's my favourite Star Wars thing since Disney yet (that goes to the Seige of Mandalore arc in the Clone Wars). I also found myself getting into the Mandalorian much faster than I did this, but 12 episodes should be plenty to change my mind. Sucks we only get one episode a week going forward 😅 Edit: after watching it all, it is incredible. It still isn't my favourite, and I'll be looking forward to other projects a little more that season 2, but it is a fantastic piece of work. I kind of hope we get a show in the future that sort of merges that style of writing with some of the mystisism and jedi stuff I love about star wars.
I wonder if anybody caught the fact that Kenari (similar to Canary) is a mining planet (Canary in the coal mine, anyone?), and the people who died on the planet had yellow skin (yellow canary)... fascinating really
Thank you for this breakdown and speaking to more of a casual type fanbase. I watched the 3 episodes but I was kind of confused what was going on. So I really appreciate how you explained them. When I get done with the next episodes I'll will for sure be looking for your breakdown videos on them also. :-)
The "mining accident" could actually have been a rebel attack with civilian casualties, including Andor's family. This would be a huge source of conflict within the rebellion.
Two possible easter eggs.1. In the warehouse during the fight between corporate security and Cassian with Lucien, the large objects on the ground and suspended from the ceiling look like struts that connect the solar panels to the body of the Tie Fighter. 2. Corporate security uniforms look similar to the Bespin Guards from Empire Strikes Back.
I agree on those uniforms, similarity to the Bespin guards, although, Kenner/Hasbro produced Expanded Universe toys, particularly the prototype of what became the Bespin Cloud Car (which became the Twin-Pod Cloud Car), but more importantly, the action figure of said prototype's pilot, whose uniform piping, and especially hat, more closely resembles Karn and his organization's. Many of the offshoot series or films have retrofitted forgotten Kenner toys, as well as Ralph McQuarrie prototype sketches. The animated series Rebels is heavily noted for this, one of the main characters is actually the McQuarrie prototype of Chewbacca, and one of the transports very frequently used is the Rebel Troop Transport toy.
The insignia worn by the crashed ship personnel is actually that of the CIS - it isn't republic, which makes Maarva's reference to one of the persons as a "Republic Officer" odd. Curious if this was a production mistake or an intentional creative decision. 6:06 for a closeup of the insignia on a dead craft member's front pouch.
Even as a huge Star Wars fan I was not planning on watching this series as it did not seem worth the time to me. However I did end up watching the first 3 episodes released thus far and I have to say I very much find it interesting. The world and setting is so intriguing and Cassian is more interesting than I thought he would be. I liked him in rouge one however I didn't think of him as special. This show has the potential to be very deep and most importantly tell a great story.
I heard season 2 was already filmed and they are starting season 3 now! I am so glad that the Mandolorian brought back good Star Wars shows, We have Mando, Bobba and now ANDOR! Rogie One was the the best if not only good Star Wars movie in recent years.
I wonder if whatever poisoned the Republic officers in the flashbacks was the gas the the Empire ended up using to all but wipe out the Geonosians, as seen in Rebels.
@Eesti mees Yeah, I just made a comment pointing that out; it's odd why one of them is referred to as a "Republic Officer" despite the obvious CIS insignia.
@@tom_skip3523 "Nah they didnt mess up" is quite the presumption; we can't be sure either way unless its somehow cleared up later in the show or by anyone involved in the production. I wouldn't be so hasty to whiff copium and try to materialize lore explanations for what may as well just be a production mistake. But, if I may give my opinion on that theory: it doesn't hold if you consider that Maarva refers to one of the bodies as a "Republic Officer" despite the CIS insignia. Why would she be privy to their real identities, if they are in fact secret republic officers?
This is exactly what I was thinking! Maybe they were extracting/experimenting with the gas from this planet to use it for other secret mass-destructive weapons...
Andor is getting really great reviews. I love it! It's already everything that I was hoping for. The only thing that's cracking me up is that it's considered "fresh," with little connection to previous Star Wars productions, but all I can see is a Star Wars Rebels Remix. "Pockets of fomenting." I recognize "spark of rebellion" when i hear it, used in very similar contexts, spoken by 2 people in the same line of work. In both shows, thieves with no professional connection to anyone, are being watched for months by people with very strong connections tore being monitored silently by someone who has very heavy connections to rebel cells against the Empire. (Bail Organa, in the case of Star Wars Rebels.) Eventually, the thieves join a rebel cell that soon becomes the Rebel Alliance. I would write a lot of this off a coincidence if not for the "pockets of fomenting" part, and when Luthen's escape with Cassian was reminiscent of Ezra Bridger's escapes through the underground sewers, or through air ducts in the ship. But these things made me love the show even more, And here is my prediction that I meant to leave 2 or 3 days ago. Kenari is one of the places that the Separatists were using to build the Death Star, probably mining for a giant kyber crystal. When it was obtained, the Separatist killed all the people at the mine, in the daytime while everyone was still there and the kids were home. A ship was returning with intentions of killing everyone there with that green gas, but the ship crashed, and all personnel died. But some of that green gas escaped and made the planet toxic. The Empire later got it right and exterminated all life on Geonosis, to leave no witnesses of the Death Star plans, except Klit Klat. This is the same gas that I'm assuming is responsible for Saw Guerrera's breathing mask. He was stuck in the caverns of Geonosis for 2 days in Star Wars Rebels, very shortly before the events of Rogue One. It's all a coverup for the Death Star, but there was a survivor on Geonosis that can draw a pretty good likeness of what he could see being constructed before it was moved somewhere else. And before that, the children were the survivors, likely knowing nothing, but the Separatist Movement can't be too careful. That's my official early prediction.
I would like for them to again incorporate Naboo into the early days of the RA. Since they were the first to take on evil corporations (The Trade Federation) they should again come to the forefront. Like did they upgrade their Naboo Starfighters for any future conflicts with outside forces. Who became Queen of the Naboo after Queen Jamilia and other things.
GEEK ALERT: Did anyone notice that when Cassian was scanned as he entered the bar, it was the same sound effect that was used in The Incredibles when Syndromes drone scanned the bones of Gazerbeam?
Andors been surprising bomb. Really enjoyed his character in Rouge One so it's gonna be kewl to his development.. and finally we actually get to see bahl organa! Just like rouge one though in the fact that Andor is one of Disney's best. You can tell they put alot of money into ir
I'm invested enough to want to see more, not enough episodes to give my conclusive thought yet, but is good enough to continue. Music, direction and ambiance/environment are promising
It's funny I remember talking to a lot of people after Rogue One and they were saying they didn't like it but I loved it. It was a little gritty, well acted I felt, and just felt a lot more real to me. But all of a sudden the same people are like I like Rogue One, go figure. Like people were criticizing the move like Han and Rouge One but to me those were my favorites of the new generation.
I was a lot more engaged by these first episodes then I thought I would be. I did see poor stupid Timm's demise early on and that overly enthusiastic official, I knew he'd be responsible for letting things get out of hand. I kind of wish I could see him getting torn a new one by his boss. That brief scene when his superior was questioning him about what new additions to his uniform told us all we needed to know about his character.
A mining accident was the excuse given to the Senate for what happened on Jedha in Rogue One. I'd bet something happened and Palps covered it up. Maybe it happened when Cassian was 6 and his parents died leaving him with his sister.
I dont mind the slow plot but the character motivation build up, background score and entire aroma of public sentiment is amazing. They nailed it. keeps me on edge what's gonna happen next.
5:36 That scene took place sometime during the Clone Wars, not TPM, because the people on the ship have CIS symbols on their clothes. The CIS wasn't founded yet at the time of TPM.
Agree with most of the comments here, by far the best series to come out of Disney Star Wars. Rogue One was the best spin-off movie out of all the prequels and sequels from the original three, they worked hard to keep the look, feel and humour in that movie and so far you can see the same attention to detail here too. 12 eps that’s speaks volumes to me, they’re really invested and will take their time. Great start.
I think it would be really bad ass for this season and next season of Andor to feed into a future series that shows the really unheard of large scale battles between the rebellion and the empire which gets mostly covered in the twilight company battlefront books but to cover other battles those books did not but I say make those seasons eight episodes but at the minimum an hour long or the same as Game of Thrones!!!
I actually do not agree with your Timeline. Cassian said in Rogue One, "I have been in this Fight since I was 12 Years Old!" , just after he was confronted on the Plane for having the orders to Kill her father Galen Erso. So it seems to me that when he turned 12 years old was when the Empire was just starting their oppression... thats why that crew was so ready to kill everyone around there, Republic officers would not have such a reputation, neither would the Separatists. So this is either within the first year of the Empire, or its a secret crew of Dooku, Grievous, or Palpatine.
The people from the downed ship were wearing CIS (separatists) badges. I think Marva was just expecting the Republic to show up and investigate the wreckage because it was probably Republic ships that caused them to crash on Kenari.
I’d love to see a teenage Leia 😍 That little girl in Obiwan had so much spunk! But about Andor, the first 2 episodes were dragging on… was about to give up on the series until I watched the third episode…
Supplementary books say that he's born 26 BBY, meaning he's 26 during Rogue One, 21 in the series, and placing the Kenari flashbacks around the late stages to the tail end of the Clone Wars.
The breakdown of the first 3 episodes was really helpful - thank you for that. I seem to not be in line with other viewers, because frankly, I was pretty bored with the first 3 episodes. Sure, everything looked amazing. And the warehouse scene was pretty good. But I’m generally underwhelmed with the story so far. Hopefully it gets more interesting.
I found it amusing that the blue guards were actually more competent than storm troopers , but andor also says arrogance is weaknesse of the empire, which totally makes sense for the whole universe
I noticed that they have Imperial army troopers in this show (18:28), who are supposed to be the rank and file soldiers (while stormtroopers are supposed to be the elite force). Hopefully that's a sign that the writers/directors are actually putting care into the accurate representation of Imperial soldiers.
I'm not sure that Kenari isn't toxic. Did you notice how everyone on the planet is young? Maybe the mining accident causes all the inhabitants to die in early adulthood.
The shuttle they used to get to the planet and how it dropped gave me the strongest Aliens vibes. They paid this back with the shuttle taking off and crashing immediately. No xenomorph was hurt in this crash. Game over man, game over!
I can’t believe I’m posting this, maybe someone else already did. 13:15 the thug that Andor’s friend uses to stand there and look scary, is the same species of alien that fronted for Cal Kestis in Jedi: Fallen Order. Unless it’s a similar looking species, I remember that opening scene where the Inquisitors came to another scrap planet looking for Jedi. Lol, I was waiting for you to mention it but you’ve got a lot to sift through with all the shows out now.
I also loved the format, not interrupted by commercials , the better to absorb, not having to sit in a theater for way too long with irritating talking people around.
I would very much like to see them aknowledge/make mention of Starkiller/Galen Marek, what with his house's crest being the alliance starbird. An easter egg would be sufficient hommage.
Didn't like Rouge One but Andore is much more promising. The cheesy call backs that everyone seems to love are at a minimum and the acting for the most part is wonderful. Grounded action and some much needed character building for Andore. Looking good
I have some questions about the nature of the Kenari Flashbacks such as what happened to the Adults in Kassa's tribe? The lead female looks like she is in her late teens. I actually wonder if whomever ran the abandoned strip mine killed off/murdered the adults in the tribe and left Kassa and the other kids to fend for themselves. The kids reminded me of a Cargo Cult.
I know im late to the party and I haven't ever commented before, but I was wondering about the changed intro to this new Andor series. Comparing the longer intro to House of the Dragon and your description of the changes in bloodline, could you take a bit of time to describe the many images/helmets that are flashed after the "Lucasfilm" logo? I know the first is Vader and the last is B2EMO and R2 is in there too
After watching all 3 episodes, I rewatched Rogue One again. Personally I feel Jyn Erso had so much bigger part than Cassian Andor. Yet she got no show. I was hoping for a kick ass female lead since they screwed up Rey. I read somewhere Jyn Erso WAS supposed to be Rey's mom but they screwed that up too.
I feel like the corporation after given Syril Karn explicit instruction not to pursue the two deaths, Syril will be retired soon after all the damage he did by bringing in the Imperials.
when they showed the flashbacks, did anyone get subtitles for when they spoke? disney+ seems to not show them when people aren't speak English. In this show and the new predator film too. its a bit annoying as no idea what they are saying.

We need more serious themed series like this. Is so good!!
Don't forget that according to the Rebels series, Ashoka was in the early rebellion as "Fulcrum", so e may very well see her too at some point.
Most likely not as the director said he wanted no cameos in the show, but you never know
I would like for them to again incorporate Naboo into the early days of the RA. Since they were the first to take on evil corporations (The Trade Federation) they should again come to the forefront. Like did they upgrade their Naboo Starfighters for any future conflicts with outside forces. Who became Queen of the Naboo after Queen Jamilia and other things.
Queen Jamilia became Queen Titania and Queen Walters dethroned her.
Finally a Star Wars series that is not all fan service. Something new which is always exciting.
Thanks so much for explaining everything! You always know how to make it all make sense! ❤️
This was a great start to a new series.
Funny how we know how Andor ends up but we still fear for his character in this show, at least i feel that way
THIS. I WAS REALLY NERVOUS lol
0:04, wrong Scarsgaard sound effect (Sardaukars throat chant)?
Agree with most of the comments here, by far the best series to come out of Disney Star Wars. Rogue One was the best spin-off movie out of all the prequels and sequels from the original three, they worked hard to keep the look, feel and humour in that movie and so far you can see the same attention to detail here too. 12 eps that’s speaks volumes to me, they’re really invested and will take their time. Great start.
I’m pretty sure Sgt. Uptight is the first person to say the word “shit” in Star Wars canon.
Please, don’t mention G.O.T.. I’m having flashbacks of the ending. But, I understand what you mean.
I have to say way better than Kenobi. Loved it and like that it's 12 episodes.
I'm so excited when you make new videos they are so cool, Hope You Have a Wonderful Day
The people from the downed ship were wearing CIS (separatists) badges.
I love this series so far! 👍🏽
Geez, tough judge! Bored? 😮
I have not seen any of this but your breakdowns being so good, I think I will give it a try and watch :)
Andor feel like the DS9 of starwars.
Andor is incredible... loving it
Bix is cassians sister. its a plot twist for the end like luke finding out leia
At 12:44 omg I did not expect Charlie to go that hard on bro 🤣🤣
This show. Beautiful. Exactly what I was waiting for from star wars. I'm here for it.
I'm not sure that Kenari isn't toxic. Did you notice how everyone on the planet is young? Maybe the mining accident causes all the inhabitants to die in early adulthood.
Rouge 1 may be the best product from the current Star Wars era.
Thank you Charlie, you're Awesome and I Appreciate your work! I Absolutely Love the "Andor" Series! It's ReallyGood!❤️👏👏👏
This series is grade A best one since Mando so stoaked to see Star Wars universe again til mando 3 thanks for the video
It was awesome! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the episodes!
The shuttle they used to get to the planet and how it dropped gave me the strongest Aliens vibes.
They paid this back with the shuttle taking off and crashing immediately. No xenomorph was hurt in this crash.
Game over man, game over!
If ever there was a moment in a video to clip Liam Neeson "I have a particular set of skills" this was it lol
Luthen’s ship is insane
The cast is stellar so far
I believe episode 4 explain.
I haven't seen it yet. I'll watch your breakdown tonight.
I still want to see Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones) to return for a couple episodes in parallel.
felt like the thrawn audio books when the corpo characters were talking, that vibe is awesome
I know the first is Vader and the last is B2EMO and R2 is in there too
I really enjoyed the first 3 eps. Can't wait for more 🔥😀
Same here!
@@emergencyawesome Nicee😄🤝🏻
After watching all 3 episodes, I rewatched Rogue One again.
Personally I feel Jyn Erso had so much bigger part than Cassian Andor.
Yet she got no show.
I was hoping for a kick ass female lead since they screwed up Rey.
I read somewhere Jyn Erso WAS supposed to be Rey's mom but they screwed that up too.
Glad I'm not the only one that who, as soon as Karn opened his mouth was like "AND I'M JAVERT, DO NOT FORGET MY NAME...24601"
I feel like the corporation after given Syril Karn explicit instruction not to pursue the two deaths, Syril will be retired soon after all the damage he did by bringing in the Imperials.
This is where the rebellion begins ..
LOL on how Star Wars producers/writers figures out how to make names of characters… Sgt. Uptight, General Grievous and others. LOL!
Always a good day when Charlie upload new content love to see it
Thanks!
@@emergencyawesome welcome
Very cool that they added in the Espos that up until now were only seen in the old school Han Solo books from the early 80's.
when they showed the flashbacks, did anyone get subtitles for when they spoke?
disney+ seems to not show them when people aren't speak English.
In this show and the new predator film too.
its a bit annoying as no idea what they are saying.
Awesome. Thanks so much Charlie! 🙏🏻
My pleasure!
Thank you, Charlie! 👍🏻🙏🏻😁
Finally had time to watch the show. Seems great so far!
Watched all 3 and still had little idea what was going on
