All this Chanel's teachers should emulate Akobian, none come close to his style. Congrats Varuzhan Akobian for your recent accomplishments. I hope to see more of your lectures on this channel, thank you.
Hi. I love your lessons and my chess is improving fast since I found your lectures. What a fantastic teacher you are. I just finish to win a King Indian's Defence using the trap you teach in this video. Keep on the good work. Regards from Portugal.
I'm 55 years old and although I know how to play chess I'm still a beginner. I feel like I fit in well with this class!! At 55 I'm confident in this class of 10 year olds! The way he talks to them/us... I feel I can learn!!! lol I'm ready really ready to take on these kids! I just need a few more videos like this one! :)
76 years old, haven't played since college days. Started again few months ago. Your videos are the best ones out there that I've discovered so far. All the others seem to be driven by their desires to demonstrate their virtuoso talents...to fast.
what a great calm, composed and patient teacher he is. Helps to understand chess to the whole class and encourage them with ideas without losing his cool. Hats off!!!
Learning with patience is already difficult... but having learnt it and teaching what was learnt with patience to kids is God level.... Kudos to GM Akobian
Akobian does a lot of things great. He's patient with the kids. Encourages the slower kids to answer, instead of just calling on the couple who know all the answers. He repeats and reminds frequently. If I had to find a critique it would be in showing the names and mainlines, but not always explaining WHY. Better to know why a bishop belongs on a particular square than just that this is where it belongs in a particular opening. He definitely does some of this, but probably could have made a few more points. Good video altogether. I wonder if his sequel got uploaded.
Mike Garner >but not always explaining WHY Well... Problem is that its actually much harder. Especially for kids. I used to learn chess in that age, so i can tell you - its VERY... I dont know, boring? Because its very hard to have interest in game where teacher just show those opening and tell this "just remember that bishop belongs to e3". And you came out with idea, that chess is about executing those ideas of others people. And you lose passion. That's very bad, BUT! Nowadays i understand that is maybe only way. You just need to know this, understanding will come later. Kids dont have it, they see a lot of pieces and just doesn't know what to do, dont have any idea. And if you will try to explain WHY they just will not know WHEN.

An excellent teacher, quiet and thorough. A .Iively presentation with students present, adressed by tbe teacher, but not seen, keeping the focus simple with just teacher and board. The action on the board is clearly demonstrated by the moving pieces. Constant action, simple to follow. Questions and answers throughout the presentation. A joy to watch and follow.

For all the carpers here -- and as usual there seem to be lots of them --- it is important to learn the basics before deviating from them in real game situations. This is one of the best videos for doing that that I have come across. Also, for those who ask what happens if the opponent does not follow through on the expected moves, as a few people have commented, that means your opponent is putting himself/herself in a vulnerable position and you need to identify the weakness to your advantage.
Damn, people, those are just little kids, probably just learning. Mr. Akobian is an excellent instructor-very patient and thorough. I wish he'd write stuff down on a board though, maybe that way the kids can pick things up faster.
Maybe the kids would be better served opening "a notebook" and writing them down? You can't take him or a blackboard home. That is why God invented a #2 pencil on the fourth day and paper on the sixth (the fifth day he had to invent an eraser. Stupid humans and their mistakes). It is a teachers job to teach and the students job to get the material being taught. How you do so is up to you, the teacher already has their notes and lesson plan written down, no need to write it again in this kind of setting. It's too simple to take the notes. Some of the kids got smart and saw how he was presenting and reviewing his lessons and later started writing them down. Me too!
I find the series for kids right up my alley, (I'm an adult beginner) but I dont always know what to do when others dont play what the lessons say they will.
+Dan Pfaffenberger I know exactly how you feel. I've been playing chess off and on for 27 years and I'm still a beginner! I also don't know what to do when an opponent deviates from the usual responses. Despite the fact that I'm an incomparably terrible player (I probably lose 20 games for every one I win) I absolutely love the game.
It's amazing the way how Varuzhan Akobian is great in understanding the learning processes 4 children, where repeating good ideas very well will be recognized, understood and memorized by children. He is a great teacher indeed, especially 4 children respect!! :) ;)
Here are my notes from this awesome video: 1:47 - queen's gambit accepted White can attempt trap with queen on F3 13:42 - queen's gambit declined Bishop on G5 putting pressure on the queen 19:58 - Slav defense - exchange variation Bishops goes B4 and D3. At the end of the development this D3 bishop is more active than the black bishop and give a slight advantage. 27:54 - King's indian defense - Smyslov-Petrosian System Bishop on E2 White trap: black may try to capture the bishop on G5. May result in a check mate. Genaral tips: - overall: knights before beshops - do not attack before every pieces have been developped.
Mr. Akobian you are not only Grandmaster in Chess but also in teaching. Great how you explain things plus the motivation in teaching. The game of chess has only made me more enthusiastic. Thanks for this!

Very good video. I'm just starting to actually learn chess and this was extremely informative. Thank you! (I agree with the comments about the kids :P they're young so they get a pass but I'm sure your patience got thin lol.)
This guy is amazing at teaching. I have learned more about chess strategies in the first 10 mins than the hours of tips and tricks videos I have watched

Well, the video title doesn't mention anything about a kid's class. It's a video for chess beginners, so, if you're a beginner, you should have nothing to feel bad about.

Thanks a ton for posting this on youtube, Cheers!! QuQ Edit: and... what did they go through last sunday..?
This was the first video I ever watched about 6 months ago. I've been playing QGA and QGD lines since then, it has helped tremendously that he plays these lines a lot. Which let's me study his games. Now I'm only rated 1200 but when I first started I was sitting at 800. Yeah... Pathetic. But I have improved. Maybe if I had even more time to spare I could be a tad bit higher. But you know "life". Wanted to say thanks for the videos. I feel confident enough that I have a decent understanding of the QG lines. There's so much more obviously but I have noticed when someone uses the QG against me I have an easy time sliding around the board. Anyways thanks. Any ideas on some new openings too play?

Me too!
SparksMagoo god invented youtube so the kids can watch the lesson again at home
Paul Googol
Actually I invented RUclips so people could watch cute puppy videos. People playing chess should not need any help !
Hay
Lana Cheng armenians start learning chess in class from a young age
Excellent class! Master thanks.
I find the series for kids right up my alley, (I'm an adult beginner) but I dont always know what to do when others dont play what the lessons say they will.
if they move odd it means they are making mistakes. find them and exploit them (look for undefended pieces and converge your pieces to thay square.)
I love the way he explains, with such patience and humbleness, he completely caught my attention. Great teacher.
2019 and this video still rocks 👍
life was better back then !
i'm here after watching 'Queen of Gambit " lol
just binge watched it...great series

Awesome lecture….. very knowledgeable and patient teacher….
13:16 queens gambit declined
19:37 Slav Defense

10:00 welcome to chess where safety is number 1 priority. Didn't know crazy russian hacker stole his intro from this guy
Robert Stanton great deflection
Robert Stanton a
Robert Stanton a
It's not like CrazyRussianHacker made English up...
It's very reassuring when he says , " sometimes I also play this and win some games"
unfortunately I don't.
Here are my notes from this awesome video:
1:47 - queen's gambit accepted
White can attempt trap with queen on F3
13:42 - queen's gambit declined
Bishop on G5 putting pressure on the queen
19:58 - Slav defense - exchange variation
Bishops goes B4 and D3.
At the end of the development this D3 bishop is more active than the black
bishop and give a slight advantage.
27:54 - King's indian defense - Smyslov-Petrosian System
Bishop on E2
White trap: black may try to capture the bishop on G5. May result in a check mate.
Genaral tips:
- overall: knights before beshops
- do not attack before every pieces have been developped.
Love the way he is teaching and getting the kids involved
Great video and great teacher. I like it

You forgot my favorite, Queens Gambit Screwed-Up
Mr. Akobian you are not only Grandmaster in Chess but also in teaching.
Great how you explain things plus the motivation in teaching.
The game of chess has only made me more enthusiastic. Thanks for this!
I found Mr. Akobian is very patient with the students. The lecture is really helpful!
im 32 and i started playing chess recently and im terribad at it. Ty for this lesson now i know couple of opening names =D and hopefully some traps aswell
Very good video. I'm just starting to actually learn chess and this was extremely informative. Thank you!
(I agree with the comments about the kids :P they're young so they get a pass but I'm sure your patience got thin lol.)
He has so much patience...
I am 65 years old and learning. Great teacher.
This guy is amazing at teaching. I have learned more about chess strategies in the first 10 mins than the hours of tips and tricks videos I have watched

It's quite surprising to know that over 98% of billionaires we all know are secret investors in crypto!! That's where they grow there billion dollar portfolio.
The rich does what the poor is scared of doing!
Wow I'm just shocked you mentioned and recommended mr David mark ,I thought people don't really know about his services. he s really awesome
I have heard a lot about investments with mr David mark and how good he is, please how safe are the profits?
I've also been trading with him, profits are secure and over a 100% return on investments
This man has an awful lot of patience asking these type of questions. I would've lost it if i would ask something 3 times, and still no one would have remembered.
Is it bad that this is a kids class yet i learned something from it at the age of 27
I learned at 29. You're never too old to learn. :)
Well, the video title doesn't mention anything about a kid's class. It's a video for chess beginners, so, if you're a beginner, you should have nothing to feel bad about.
Mac C applicable to any age...its just openings!
I will be 30 in few days.
I'm 54 years old and learning from this kids class. No shame in starting late. This is a very good video.
I thoughly enjoy your lessons...You are a very patient and good teacher. I am trying to get back into the game so your youthful approach is perfect for my 76 year old brain....thank-you chess is enjoyable again.....the beautiful game!
I am 64 years old and it has been years since I've played chess. I love this video.
Hey, I'm wondering if there is a part one of this one, or is this part one...?
becasue this is really really good for me, I'm a beginner myself so this really helps alot,
or, do you have to figure out what parts that comes after this by the dates?
Thanks a ton for posting this on youtube, Cheers!! QuQ
Edit: and... what did they go through last sunday..?
Where is the 2nd part with the other 6 oppenings of this video? please help
Our country needs GM Coaches like him.
Amazing teacher with awesome patience with the students which sound very young.
Dang. You are a good teacher.
All about getting better having fun mang keep it up!!!!:)
I would recomend you to watch videos with TheBackyardProfessor.
I've watched quite a few of his. Thank you
Adam Landa instead of openingsvideos watch the MIddlegametraining by Majnu. Amazing videos that learn you soooo much about the middelgame.
Here is day 1: /watch?v=rk47zfq788M
I'll check it out thanks!
Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis Any chance the second half of this lecture will ever make its way online?
+Chess Club and Scholastic Center of Saint Louis +Mike Garner I'd love to see it too. I was keen to learn the other openings. Perhaps there's a similar lecture uploaded?

This teacher is so good. I'm learning how to play chess as a 36yr old!
That kid always raising his hand getting ignored xD rip
I noticed that
he's probably the only one who knows all the answers, so it doesn't make sense for him to answer each time
I remember when I first learned Queen's gambit, my online rating started to increase gradually from 1100 to 1400 :D
