As an owner of this car I totally agree with your sentiments ,you’re exactly right It’s a brilliant entry into the EV market And they will only get better Although I’ve managed with my 13amp charger just fine ,my battery’s never completely flat 20 /30 % and I fully charge it in about 14 hour’s Any longer runs and I use the numerous rapid chargers on route. My average range is about 170 miles level 3 regen eco mode which would probably suit most commuting needs I feel it’s money well spent for a spacious EV that does exactly what it’s says on the tin .
Thank you for your comment. The ZS EV is indeed great value for money as an EV, especially against cars at the same price. I am really happy to hear you are enjoying your EV. Cannot wait to see what MG bring out in the future EV wise.
Excellent review. Very well presented. Just a couple of pointers for you. On MGPilot you missed out the best bit. If you put the ACC on and set a speed, you can then pull the ACC lever towards you twice and the MG will then steer for itself (very Tesla like, but not true AutoPilot(which incidentally costs several thousands more)). I have been told this is a low speed feature, but the MG is quite happy doing this at 70 mph(+), but I'm a good driver so wouldn't know about higher speeds. This is setup is probably most of the difference in price between EV and petrol versions. As you had the press version (and first deposits also) you got both cables. All those offers have gone and new purchasers will only get the 240 volt (3 pin plug) cable. Type 2 cable is somewhere around £169 extra (unless you've got a friendly dealer who will throw one in with the sale). Personally I would have been happier if the cable choice was the other way round. On the pass through from the boot, If you drop the 60% split you can get 6 foot (2.4m) planks into the boot. I did this a couple of days ago. Hopefully, you are right about the charge port, but it isn't too much of a problem and you soon get used to it.
Thank you for your comment. Afraid I didn't get to use that function on the MG Pilot so was unable to comment. Regarding the charger cables I was definitely going with a recommendation for the Type 2. I know a number of manufacturers provide the 3-pin free with the car. The split boot definitely helps if you also need to also carry two rear passengers.
Big thank you for a very thorough and informative review. I test drove an MG EVZ yesterday, the first EV I have ever driven. I was very impressed and next week I intend to order one. I have the advantage of having a small solar array (6 panels I think about 1.5KWH) so with the addition of a Type 2 charging point, I hope to have very low running costs. This car really is amazing value.
Thank you for your comment Martyn. The ZS EV is huge value for money especially in the amount of metal you get for your money. With the solar panels and T2 point you should be in a decent position to charge your car and spend very little. Enjoy.
Nice review, i had a test drive last week and was well impressed, ive ordered one on the motability scheme and managed to get it for nil advanced payment, happy days ,cant wait for delivery in 3 weeks
I ordered mine on the Motability Scheme on Friday and I get the car this Thursday. I only paid £299 for the Exclusive model. So excited about getting it.
I must say, I wasn't expecting the squeak to be THAT audible! How perculiar as the test model I had never did that. I think it's time to get out good ol' WD40 😂That aside, that was a very good, thorough review Dave! The gag at the five minute mark made me chuckle as well, timing was spot on 👌
Thank you for the comment Aaron. Yes the squeak did show up very noticeably on the mike. Wasn't really and issue as the panel had a study feel to it. Thank you very much. I thought it would be a good poll to include on the review!!
I took a MGEV for a rest drive out of curiosity, 20 minutes later I signed on the dotted line, it was my first try of an electric car and was blown away, so much so I traded in my 17 plate merc 180 and have zero regret. When in sport-mode we have consistently done 0-60 in under 6 seconds and although the top speed in supposed to be capped we have had it well over a ton. It has its bugs but then again every car does and they are generally first world problem type of issues. Desperate for an App though. Great review.
Thank you for your comment. I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the EV and signed on the order form. Huge surprise to hear that you traded a Mere as well. That says volumes. I hope you enjoy your new car and glad you enjoyed the review.
Excellent and informative review. I have owned my ZS EV since 1st March and have found that I too am getting almost 200 miles regularly with no heating/air con on. Should be easily achievable in the warmer months. I would use silicon spray on that squeak rather than wd40 if anyone has the same.
Thank you for the comment. I am happy you enjoyed the review. I think that you can get nearly 200 miles per charge is a great achievement for the ZS EV.
Very happy with ours which we have had for 2 weeks now. Front parking sensors are not available, but would be useful in our narrow lanes. invested in a Zappi 7KW charger which will come into its own when we get our Solar panels installed. This allows the car to get a really good charge in our cheap electric times. Regen set to level 3 and the brakes hardly every get used. Cost per mile is about 2p on the cheap rate lecky.
Good review. On the strength of this I bought an MG ZS EV in July 2020. In September 2020 I had a minor accident. It is now February 2021 and my car will not be repaired for 2 months. DO NOT TOUCH MG WITH A BARGE POLE.
Thank you for your comment Cee. As mentioned that particular was a preproduction vehicle and not full production. I know others that have been reviewed didn’t have the squeak in the charge panel.
Yes I understand, it's just a bit worrying really - if I represented MG I'd make sure that was fixed before getting out to the press! But it's cheap, so maybe most people won't care if they're in the market for it.
I have one and love it...this is the only squeeky charge flap I have heard about and there are many many owners on the FB site .....maybe it was ok when MG handed it to the first reviewerand it got a bit of grit in the hinge or something?....sounds like a spray of WD or silicone spray would cure it.
The reset of driver settings in fossil fuel cars is apparently intentional. Because if you drive the car in sports modes the emissions increase. So to discourage it they make it so you have to set it to that manually every time.
My production MG ZS EV (and others) do infact reset. Possibly he missed it as it defaults to top regen (but to normal not eco drive mode). Also had the charge cables the wrong way round, 3pin is standard and type 2 is an option.
Thank you for the comment. That is odd that on the production variant they do reset. That was such a great convenience. Apologies for getting the cables mixed. I am aware if you ordered early you got both.
@@AutoBears No need to apologise, I was unaware about the early order bonus. Maybe a software update will make it remember drive mode again, I can only hope!
No idea how you get even 150 miles out of the ZS EV during motorway use. Predicted range seems to drop quicker than my actual mileage. I do use the Eco setting. Perhaps I need to get the individual cells checked. Having said that, I do think the car is great and btw, the charging port does not squeak and never has.
Thank you for the comment. I think there are a number of factors. Weight in the car, outside temp, what systems are in the car etc.Plus driving style can be a sizeable factor also.
You know my plans Dave. You’ve just helped me make my mind up about my next car. I’ll be ordering one as soon as I can, lockdown permitting. Can you text me, please? I’ve lost all of my numbers. (Beta issues)
Hi there, yes try Scott at MG Wakefield also is on carwow, getting one soon with a very low deposit 😉 Worked out for me £60 a month cheaper than any other dealer!! Let me know if any good for you 😃
Thank you for the comment. Of course MG has had a bit of a mixed reaction after coming back to the UK but the ZS EV will undoubtably spark a lot of interest in those who need a very spacious EV without having to go over the 30K budget.
Thank you well made vid very informative . Nice CN made car but still keeps the UK MG sporty spirit, a lot fun changing 6 modes like a manual.;) Shame top speed 140km/h this is useless in Germany! I test drived 3 times. I think if u turn this car's nose grid 180 degrees , it looks like a Lancer EVO X SUV。ALWAYS DRIVE IN SPORTY MODE plz it's a car not a lightrail 哈哈哈哈haha . But I hate the plastic door, why dont just make it better? even 20k more NOK I will buy the car! It's not like we don't have the little more meny lol . Also, the touch screen is crap, so stop banning Huawei plz then they can make good 5G touchscreen on cars, a car is mechanical thing and is going to be safe for at least 30 years before it get hacked.xD As a Chinese living in Norway. I'm sure future electric cars have better touch screen and AI and range about 400km or so. But I can't wait anymore and I don't care those, only care Brand: 6star. Chinese manufacture Quality usually 2 star but this one I give 3.5 star. In city handling and power: 5 star. Noise, suspension comfort and material and function: 3star. Appearance design, well if it has bigger bottom vents and less fake vent, I give 6 star. But fake vent is good for ev car so....what can u complain about.
Lolol. 'Let me know if u like it mild or wild '🤣. Thinking about getting one of these. Tired of the expensive gas prices on my island but d infotainment seems so slow. I think that will really frustrate me
Pil-im-co blue? No its Pim-li-co blue. ;) Named after an area in London. pronounce.london/word/pimlico/ Boot in the EV is actually 470ltr (vs 448) so more than the petrol version.
Excellent and informative review. Looks like a nice package. Unfortunately the brand MG is still tarnished and associated with the past leyland era for poor reliability and sub-standard build quality in the 70s, 80s and 90s. Only the names Vauxhall and Rover concur up scarier perceptions and bad memories of build quality, Unfortunate because this is now a Chinese owned brand and the quality is could be quite good in contrast with MG of old.
Thank you for the comment. I think bringing them back was a good idea and in time they will become a definite brand to consider when looking to buy a car. Look at how Skoda has been transformed by being bought by VWG.

I am also considering buying one, on the back of the review and the comments, most of the comments are saying good thing about the MG Z

thank you, a really good review
What are the dimensions of the car Key? I want to make a 3d-printed case
Thank you for your comment Fredrick. I’m sure your local MG dealership will be able to help you with your inquiry.
hello does this EV come with a jack as mine did not ?
Hi there. I don’t recall seeing a jack under the boot floor but I did not check under the polystyrene mould.
7 year warranty is the icing on the cake plus for me the Dealer is 3 miles away. I shall seriously consider.
Thank you for your comment Neil. The warranty is a huge bonus to the EV. I always recommend taking a test drive.
Hi, how about charging, 1-2-3 phae? fast charging, kilowatts, range, range with average speed of? etc. Crucial things to know with an EV..
Thank you for the comment. Apart from the main parts mentioned in the video what are you wanting to know?

W40 against the squick
Can we start calling it an SUEV??

As time passes new younger generations of drivers who weren't around for the shoddy MG/Rover period don't persecute them on the past.
I wish this came in manual and not just automatic
EV’s will always be automatics as they don’t need the mechanics to change gears.

The MG zs ev, motorway range is a joke. You start with a range of 155 after 70 miles it's in empty.
