Zeppelin would usually release a whole album and no singles but in this case they released the Immigrant song as a single on a '45' this song on the flip side. The album CODA came out after the band broke up in 1980. CODA was compilation of songs they recorded but were never released on an album. Another great song on that album is We're Gonna Groove.

This song was the "B" song to the "45" record of the hit "Immigrant" song which was Led Zeppelin's second hit released in 1972 and was more played on the airwaves than "The Immigrant Song." It really was considered "Country" and was on Billboard's Country Chart.

Great choice, glad you didn’t skip over this gem. Constraints on time and locations and touring etc. made recording a little haphazard at times, so songs end up on B sides or left off the album for unknown reasons. Artists usually recorded more songs than an album required just in case. Do some of their early live stuff too if you feel like it. Zep fans always want more.

This song was written during the same time as LZ III, however, originally it was only available on a UK Atlantic Records sampler album called The New Age Of Atlantic and release in 1972. Coda is an album composed of unused tracks that Jimmy assembled and with the others, released to cover their contract obligation with Atlantic. Back in the day (at least in my market) this song wasn't played often on the radio due to the lyrics. Robert sings "I got a woman, wanna ball all day." Again, because I'm ancient, lol, to "ball" was a crude euphemism for having sex, as in, "Are you guys balling?" Also, he sings he's "...looking for my street corner girl." which implies she's possibly a prostitute. I'm a bit of a stickler in this regard; I wouldn't have suggested to dig into Coda until it's proper place in the catalogue, but, your channel, your rules. Hi Sal…..Helene here. Some people will say go on to IV because it’s a big deal……a major seller and put Zeppelin in stratosphere in status and they are looking forward to your reactions. I am too. A lot. But Sal, this is your channel. You expressed a desire yesterday to see further live performances from songs on Zep III and to provide links. Which I did. From years of reading comments on Zep reactions, I would say that most would say to listen to studio version of a song first, but then to definitely watch it live, because of the energy and improvisation etc. and this is what you are doing. So I would suggest to watch the two links provided and then move on to IV. But it’s your channel….you are the leader. We will suggest….you decide. Whichever way you go, we will be fine. I would say that the live performance of Since I’ve Been Loving You from MSG ‘73 is iconic, and at some point you simply must watch it. Link is in yesterday’s comments. You’re doing a fantastic job!

Wasn't included on the original release of "Coda". It was released as a the B side of Immigrant song in 1970 in the US. Read this, en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hey,_Hey,_What_Can_I_Do

theres another great dazed and confused from royal albert hall 1970 and it shows how much they changed each song everyt time they played them live. the song is a skeleton and they improvise all the meat every time!

I agree, I like this track better than 5 or 6 songs you already listened to. Hootie and the Blowfish did a great cover of this song. Most Zep fans don't consider Coda an actual Zeppelin album. In my opinion there is only really two songs worth listening to on it. this one and Darlene.

The fact that you found it. Shows it wasn't "thrown away"
Look at it this way you gave zep3 10 out of 10; what song do you take off that album to make room for hey hey?

No space on the album for it. Vinyl had size limits of about 25 minutes a side.

Why was this a throw away song? Because Led Zepplin use to like to fuck with the record companies and their manager wanted to fuck with the record companies even more. Led Zepplin did what they wanted and how they wanted, same reason they released an album without a title.

If you think this one deserved to make it in the album... oh, boy, go listen to the Red Hot Chili Peppers B-sides. Some of them are even better than the actual tracks on the records. You can search them up here in RUclips, you'll be surprised hehe

I know Hats Off To Roy doesn't get much love but I personally love it more than this coz it its Zep having a stab at the blues that inspired them and all the early rock bands. Perversely though, I think this track in Hats Off's stead on III would have improved the album further. Each to their own I guess. A bit schizo I know. Nobody's right nobody's wrong.

I know you already did the live version of Since I've Been Loving You but I think you would be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't take the time to react to the studio version. The live version is good but it is a completely different version and the studio version of this song is a blues masterpiece.
