@@chriscody2778 I remember calling the radio station and asking how I could get this song. at the time he said it wasn't available. I requested it and lamely recorded it. ❤️❤️✌️
I jokingly dedicated this song to my then girlfriend about 14 years ago. She liked to first few lines lol. She still married me, great sense of humor. Unfortunately I lost her to unknown cancer 2 years ago two months after she gave birth to our 2nd baby girl. This was a good find in reactions, makes me smile for few reasons. Thank you for doing it!
Actually, this song came about because Zeppelin didn't like putting out singles, but, their record company wanted them to release, as a single, The Immigrant Song, Jimmy and Robert didn't want to use any other song for the B-side, so, they hastily came up with Hey, Hey, What Can I Do.
Originally a B side of a single . When he yells BOOGIE CHILDREN ! its a reference to John Lee Hooker . The Zep guys were fanatic collectors of ancient blues singles . Their own songs were full of references to much older songs , both in lyrics and guitar riffs .
The cool thing about this song, back in the 1970's, was that it was not released on an album. It was released on the B side of the single: "Immigrant Song." Back in those days, there was no internet, so if you heard this song on the radio, it was a very rare thing. So until recent times, this was a rare song that most people didn't hear unless they were lucky enough to catch it on a radio station.
we did have a cool radio station in my hometown so it was played often and I hear it on the radio here on Cape Cod on the radio stations(we have an older population here)
I owned this single back ii the 70s..I worked at a pizza place in Dallas and I had the owners put it in the jukebox ...it got played A LOT...got fired from my job and they kept the record.
Yes, I remember it being quite the treat when this song played on the radio. I don't even really remember them playing it until about '74-''75. It was quite the elusive song
My favorite Zeppelin song ~ the band instrumentally at their best.... As mentioned, hard to believe never made it on an album ... Damn ~ John Paul Jones and Bonham just.....pfffff. Nice.... Cheers Friends
Another surprise from you Pope! Even the Mighty Zeppelin's "bits and pieces collection" released after John Bonham's untimely passing brought the band to an end. But I defy anyone to criticise - the singing is fantastic, the music engaging and flawless as always Loved your reaction Pope, you always enjoy your Zeppelin!
Awesome reaction to, as you said, an underrated song. Really digging your Zep song selection, and enjoying the passion you have for the band. Fun watching you realize what many of us know, none of their songs are below the level of greatness.
This was the golden unicorn song for decades because it wasn't on any Album and was only ever released as the B side of the 45 of The immigrant song. You could only hear it on the radio for years and it was magical whenever it got played.
Found your channel by searching for “led zeppelin hey hey what can i do reactions”… not many reactions to this song. Great song, great reaction, I’m now a sub of yours 👍🏻
Not sure if Pope knows the true origin of this song. Originally sung by Lead Belly. Maybe look up and learn about Lead Belly and Robert Johnson. Zeppelin redid a lot of African American folk / blues songs. Travelling River Side blues is another one, 1930s, Delta Blues of the deep South, songs about superstition, heart break and freedom. Robert Johnson was an amazing legend and the originator of the 27 club.
Thank you for reacting to this song, as no one seems to cover this ? This song was only released on a 45 RPM Record B- side of the Immigrant song, and never on a LP. Very hard to get a copy. ,but I have a copy in my jukebox. a Classic, Need to react to OVER THE HILLS FAR AWAY by led ZEPPLIN NEXT !!
Back whn I was yer age I'ld already come across Led Zeppelin. I was like 14. But I still had the same reaction, "I love all their songs". Also, I don't know how much attention you paid, but John Bonham is the greatest drummer of all time.
I remember my friend back when I was 13, '78, bought the single "Imagrent song" we loved that song especially for John Bonham insane bass drum triplets, but we played the flip......and this was so f ing groovy, John Paul Jones is the feature on this for me, he was incredible on this, but he always was.
I bought EVERY zep album looking for this song.....before i found out its NOT ON ANY! It was only released as a " B" side of a single 45! They felt it wasnt good enough to be on an album! Ironic, as we all love it!!!!😄
And to think this song was never issued on an album when it was made. Zeppelin’s “throw aways” would be any other band’s gold.
You got that right man!!
Reverend!
B side of Immigrant Song ❤️

Lol your right
No one sings like Robert Plant or plays like Jimmy, John Paul and Bonzo.❤
OMG! You’re like one of the only people to react to this song... it’s one of my FAVORITES!!
Mine too!
a underrated zeppelin gem 💎💋, maybe my most listened zep song! addictive

They put together their first album in 35 hours. This was one of their leftover scrap songs. Pretty amazing, yes!!
Yes they did!! Pure talent and genius!
I thought is was conceived during the led iii sessions no?
yeah but they've been playing those songs for a very long time they were familiar with them so it's just like going and record it pretty much
@@fredtello this was recorded to be on III and got scrapped. This album was a collection of unreleased stuff after Bonham died

"Hey, Hey, What Can I Do" by Led Zeppelin, released in 1970 as the B-side of the single "Immigrant Song" in the US.
Robert Plant said the difference between LZ & Deep Purple is if the power goes out LZ can still put on a show

Back in the 70’s the word ball, meant screwing / f@cking. This is how they got around being sensored
