    Absolutely one of my favorite songs.
    So dramatic. Incredible transiions, (duh). Love the panning, with headphones on.
    Love your way of reviewing the band, album by album. Very cogent.

    Songs like this is one of the reasons why people suggest going in order. This would've been suggested eventually, but often they get overlooked by songs that get requested more often. John Paul Jones is a fantastic bassist but he is also a multi-instrumentalist and plays mandolin, and organ/piano/synth. If you look up on RUclips What Is And What Should Never Be isolated bass track, you'll hear the musicality that went into this song. This song is about the affair Robert had already had or was having with his sister in law. He dated Shirley first but she wanted him to leave music so they broke up and he started dating her sister, Maureen, whom he would marry and have three children with. Even so, he would still keep Shirley in the picture. Eventually, over time and through some tragedies (we'll get to them as you progress through the music), Robert and Maureen would divorce in the 80s. Robert would then pick back up with Shirley for a while and have a son with her, although they never married and didn't stay together.

    I think people don't recommend this as much because it's almost unclassifiable as to genre. Blues? Funk? Fantasy? Everybody can hear that it's great.. check out the version Live at Royal Albert Hall (1970)- superb! Peace from Canada.

    Just so everyone is aware...this album was released in October of 1969. I was 19, and I would live it all over again if I could... Excellent reaction/review. And I'll recommend "Thank You" from the same album, but you have to listen even after you think the song is over.

    Well, after listening to Stairway, you said you enjoyed listening to faster/harder music, so those were the recommendations you got. ;) Since you decided to start from the beginning with album 1, which I think was a good decision, it seems you've expanded what it is you like to listen to, which is the best thing of all. LZ can do that to people who are serious about exploring their music, which you clearly are, and I'm really enjoying following your journey through the world of their music. :)

    I really like this song. There are so many songs it’s hard to recommend particular ones until you get a sense of someone’s preference.. One that I like a lot that you don’t see often is Friends, on the third album. It’s really different. You have your hands full with this album right now. Enjoy!

    After Kashmir, this is JPJ's favourite LZ song. It rarely gets a mention because their catalogue of monster epics always seem to take preference. This song and Friends off III & Down by the Seaside off PG are always my recommendations.

    As far as bass appreciation, it would be a worthwhile endeavor to listen to Zeppelin's entire catalogue and focus completely on John Paul Jones bass work. He often does so much that is almost undetectable because it is as close to perfect as possible.

    I still think to this day Robert is under appreciated in the band and as a singer. Most only think of the highs and the screams. However , he can change his voice, almost switch gears to go with what Jimmy brings to the table, which is always first I might add.
    His phrasing, choice of words and what to extenuate , what to emphasis, when to bring it in tight and when to let it rip , to me, hasn’t been matched to this day. And don’t give me no Freddie Mercury ( although a genius also) bs. Do you know who Freddy Mercury’s favorite singer was…yes that’s right..Robert Plant. A lot of the British artists thought Plant was LZ weakness. However, as time went on they learned to appreciate this 4th instrument in the band.

  • @luvbasses5487
    @luvbasses5487 Год назад

    It’s just so good when the drums come in isn’t it? I first heard this record in 1981. I was 13. That was IT. I knew then that this band had zero competition. It made me want to play bass. John Paul and this record taught me how to play the instrument! LZ II is what I call British Motown. Check out the live version from the Royal Albert Hall ‘70 video DVD!

    Thing is there is basically no bad ones. Obviously some more than others. Love this song but not sure would be in my top 25. Enjoy the journey. The lemon song is blues and so good. Am jealous. Wish could re experience them for the first time again. Also John Paul Jones will bring the bass (and other things) He does so much in the background to pull it together. Under rated with the other three so brash in your face

  • @betseyr.9081
    @betseyr.9081 2 года назад +2

    The song would have made my suggestion list (as it has on other reaction channels) but you decided very early on to just do everything, knew then that it would be heard, LOL! IMO the "Lemon Song" gets requested for the shock value of the lyrics more then anything else but that doesn't mean it isn't a worthy tune. Having said that about "The Lemon Song" I suggest you find a stream that has the lyrics on screen to react too. Story to the lyrics Robert wrote here, it's all about his relationship at the time with his then sister-in-law, Shirley Wilson (yes he was married at that time). 8 years after his divorce, Shirley gave birth to his youngest child Jesse in 1991. PLEASE take note, you are a few tracks away yet but you need to react to "Heartbreaker" and "Living Loving Maid (She's Just a Woman)" as if they were ONE track, they are certainly meant to be listened to together and it was very obvious on the vinyl release that that was the bands intention.

    I'm not sure why no one recommends this either. It's a fantastic song. "In the Light", one of the band's favourite songs and which, for me, belongs in the Zeppelin top 5, never gets recommended either... I suppose the trouble with Zeppelin is that all of their songs are great and the majority are bona fide masterpieces! It can make it hard to narrow it down, so the best known will always cut through. For instance, although Stairway to Heaven is an incredible piece of music, I can think of 2 to 3 dozen Zeppelin songs that I'd rank higher. However, Stairway is easily their most well known song, so it's also their most recommended. Don't get me wrong, I think it's a fantastic song but... you get what I'm saying... I hope. :)

  • @anthonyblakely399

    Your generation is not into "Psychedelic Music", Mostly Rap and Hip-Hop.....we didn't think this song and others were Hip-hop enough or Rap enough to pull you into Led Zeppelin. Yeah this song is one of my favorites on the whole album along with "The Lemon Song" and "Thank You." The Lemon Song was banned from almost every Radio Station in the 60's and 70's because it was too sexually. Radio stations and Radio companies would not play it.......so we hear it on alternative radio station on FM. This album, "Led Zeppelin ll" is/was considered a masterpiece by Music Critic Worldwide......and it is/was one of my all-time favorites from them. I have the CD and The Vinyl. I will send you the vinyl, if you don't have it.

    Helene here, Sal. It wasn’t recommended because most young male reactors want the fast and hard stuff first. And Stairway didn’t impress you that much and you asked for harder stuff. We didn’t know your taste yet. At least I didn’t. This is t exactly a “deep cut”, but it’s included in lists of Zeppelins “slower more mellow songs”. But I think it’s a perfect example of Zeppelins famous “Light and Shade” approach……soft, and then bring down the hammer.
