Kirby’s Dream Buffet came out of nowhere at a cheap price, and all content is unlockable through offline, as well. Heck, I haven’t even gotten everything yet! Combine that with my brother and I hopping on from time to time for same-system 1v1, and this one’s still got some life in it for me!
Even if updates would’ve saved the online, I’ll always appreciate this charming little title.

This should've been a free game with Nintendo switch online
The only games available for free through Nintendo Switch Online are limited-time 'Game Trials'. Kirby's Dream Buffet is still cheap anyway.

It's crazy it's been a year since this game launched.
I feel like this game has never really left the eShop charts, even if it's just been really low on the download-only section. Guessing the paywalled online is a contributing factor, seeing as Dream Buffet seems like the perfect "oh my kid likes Kirby and it's cheap" kind of game to pick up and thus it's probably not really being bought by people with NSO
A cute little spin-off game like this was never going to have a long lasting large player base.

The only reason I picked up this title as soon as it came out was because I knew It’d be like this sooner than later. Glad to have enjoyed it in its peak.

People like myself and many other passionate fans are still definitely keeping the game going with small tournaments and such!! This game is so fun.

Been a while since i played this, but i remember spending a ton of time 100%ing this
I still find it insane how much they went with celebrating Kirbys history here. Tons of remixes from the old ball games, and even some 25th/30th anniversary stuff was thrown in
A simple game, but i loved what it did (also god damn is the music amazing)
It happened with Kirby Fighters 2, and so this was pretty inevitable.
It is worth noting that Super Kirby Clash, the only free-to-play Kirby spin-off, is still alive in terms of online players. Makes sense, but I would wish better for my favorite Pink Puffball.
That Searching music is totally the Hold music from most Health insurance phone calls and I immediately thought i was on Hold. 😅
I haven’t looked at this game since it first released, but I seem to remember it being very limited in terms of local multiplayer options.
If only they had updated this game. It could've been something cool to come back with new content rolling out every few weeks/months 😔
I don't know if this is controversial, but this game should have been free and had microtransactions, maybe some DLC mixed in. The concept of this game is fun and amazing, but the execution in my opinion could have been so much more...
Or they should've made it free for NSO users.
The only Kirby spin-off to recieve major updates was Kirby Battle Royale for the Nintendo 3DS unfortunately. Kirby's Dream Buffet would have really benefitted from having at least 3 more stage types.
@@TheInfiniteLegend Microtransactions would've realistically helped, but DLC would not work as the content would have to be free as a live-service game to stay afloat.

I really liked this game. Had a blast with it and still occasionally play it. Sad to see it wasn’t flushed out more. Now give us Kirby Air Ride 2 🙏🏼

I remembered getting this game to pass time until Splatoon 3 came out. A fun little game, but probably not something I'd ever go back to.

I 100%'d the game week 1 so I really haven't touched it since, though I'd never have forgotten about it, especially since i have a bit of a series clause when it comes to buying games on a console

It ends up slower to pick the online mode now, because you have to wait 2 minutes to play like that. It's enough to offset the lack of the 1.8x online multiplier, but not enough for the 1.25x full course multiplier

At 1:15 the colors are inverted.
No dlc and didnt fix a mayor bug where you couldnt see your friends in the same room. Game was some fun and had potential.
They could blow in some new life by releasing a few courses.

I recall trying to do an online match in november and I waited over an hour for a match and never got another one after that on that. Atleast they have the AI that automatically goes in.
So, I live in Hawaii. When I play this game online matches easily because my ping time is closer to Japan. I get matched with LOTS of Japanese players.

For that games free to play really is the better option I think. Or at least just put it into the online sub. Would be a perfect addition next to the 99 games, which are always very samey.

I decided to take advantage of the absence of players in multiplayer to get the most out of the multiplier that they give you for playing online even with pure bots, that's how I went up level quite fast until reaching 135, every 6 or 8 games playing only 1 of those 6 or 8 I had to play with someone real although they are not usually very good at playing And I'll be honest sometimes if it feels ugly to see desolate rooms And to top it off the CPU doesn't make the slightest effort to emulate human behavior.
There were rarely any players online a few months after the game's launch. I usually went with the normal offline mode despite the boost because I didn't want to waste a minute in the waiting room every time I played. I reached maximum Gourmet Rank earlier this year.

The game just feels like it was a quick solution designed by Nintendo to try competing with Fall Guys' playerbase surge from becoming F2P, but when it didn't make that much mileage they put it on the backburner.
HAL Laboratory made this game, not Nintendo. Nintendo barely has any involvement in the development of Kirby games. The only Kirby spin-off to ever recieve major updates was Kirby Battle Royale for the Nintendo 3DS, so it's obvious why this never got any.

I'd have given it a shot...if you could play as someone *other* than Kirby. Major and minor characters in the Kirby series have simple enough designs, so why not use more of them? Metaknight, Waddle Dee, Elfilin, Ribbon, Adeline, the partners from Dreamland 3, even Gooey.
I mean to be fair you can technically play as the "Knight" characters and Waddle Doo
There are loads of costumes and colours that can be combined to make Kirb look like characters from other games in the Kirby series. Most of them just look like a differently coloured Kirby in a costume, but the Meta Knight and Waddle Doo ones are near identical to the characters they're based on, especially the latter.

People forgot about it because better Kirby games came out before and after the release of this (Forgotten Land and Return to Dream Land Deluxe).

@BowlOSoup6661 it's the first spin off to be a completely original concept, as the last 2 were enhanced versions of their 3ds counterparts

if this game is dead all year, we need to at least blow it up on the ANNIVERSARY like, the WHOLE POINT OF THE GAME is that it's KIRBY'S BIRTHDAY PARTY so one year later is the perfect time to play it
If it’s like Fall Guys then it should be free now because what fall guys did was they released the game that was $15 in 2020 on year later it become free for all and I think it helped the game. I mean we do have a free game by Nintendo but why not a new one or give it a sale like we have that multiplayer sale that would be perfect for Kirby’s dream buffet
It's not meant to be like Fall Guys where everyone is playing it all the time. It's another small Kirby spin-off. Kirby spin-offs have never recieved major updates besides Kirby Battle Royale for the Nintendo 3DS. The only one on Nintendo Switch that's always had a large playerbase is Super Kirby Clash because it's free-to-play, but HAL hasn't done anything to take advantage of that like updating the game with more content.

Outside of the deluxe games on 3ds, this is the only Kirby game I have never bothered to buy/emulate. If it were f2p, maybe? But it never seemed interesting to me at all.
(And Air Ride - but that game is too expensive in PAL and I have no way to emulate that)

And this is *exactly* why I don't give a damn about online multiplayer and don't care one bit about the news that Super Mario Bros. Wonder won't feature online multiplayer. I said that it would be a useless feature, dead in a year anyway--and look here, an example of another game whose online component is, literally, dead in a year.
It is bruh i was trying to play it earlier this year and there was NO ONE. So sad cause it's boring with bots and there isn't a 4 player friend mode
