FULL RECALL STOP PRINTING - Cautiously Requested By Bambu Lab

  • We received an important email update from Bambu Lab about the A1 heated bed cable issue. Out of an abundance of caution Bambu Lab is advising all owners of their A1 (not A1 mini) to cease operation until further notice from their official channels. We do not know if there will be an official recall, and Bambu is asking for patience while they work out the best, safe solution.

    Just got my first couple of sales on Etsy selling some of my prints and now I'm gonna have to put things on hold until they figure out a solution. Fingers Crossed its quick. I'm glad they are looking out for us and trying to get the word out.

    This is a major bummer for me. I managed to get up the funds for an A1 combo and 11 spools of material to get back in the local craft fair scene. I love my A1. I’m hoping they can come up with a path forward and whatever solution can be in my hands in enough time to be ready for the spring shows. I am very thankful for Bambu’s resolve and respect for the community but dang I sure am crestfallen to not be able to run the new hotness. I do see that they pulled the A1 from the store so that’s good.

      That is a bummer, and this is definitely out of an abundance of caution. We expect some details from them shortly, but I am positive they will do the right thing, they are handling this very well.

      could be worse. could of bought a printer from a company that doesnt care about customers and does nothing until ur printer doesnt work anymore or even worse ur house catches on fire?

      This is just a life lesson for new products in general. I've been burned before buying something on release or within the first few months. I quickly made it my philosophy to force patience on myself to wait at least a year (maybe less depending on type of product, but with printing usually a year a close to it) before purchasing to make sure the kinks are ironed out.

    This is definitely a bummer. I got my A1 and AMS all set up and got the message from Bambu Lab. I am happy that they care about their users and safety. Hope everyone is safe and well. Thank you for all you do Moses.

    Thanks for the info. I got the mail as well and through you opened a ticket when the blog announced the issue. I had a big project to complete this weekend with the printer and now it will just have to wait. Great work once again.

    I don't own a Bambu printer yet but i find it very professional to inform people to stop printing. They took the responsibility. I can understand how frustrating this can be but imagine that most companies that sell 3d printers will not admit or inform their customers. I have seen many RUclips videos, pictures and articles in which 3d printers went on fire. Please everyone have a fire extinguisher near your printer and one outside the room that operates in case you don't have access to that room

    Thanks for sharing! I love my A1, it's a great printer and a huge lvl up in printer industry.
    They made a good move with not hiding any facts, very mature. I'll wait for more info, if we have to wait 2-3 months for spare parts I'm ok with it

    I had an A1, got random bed tem reading issues, then eventually it would error anytime heating last 80c. Went out and got a P1S and it's been working great.

      Oh! So you had those issues! How out of range were they? I asked a little while ago to see if anyone had experienced it but didn't get an answer from anyone.

      @@LoyalMoses I didn't get to actually test it but temperature would go forwards and backwards when heating up to 100c and it would eventually error and temp would read 0c until I reboot it. It would heat to 75c then drop to 70c then struggle up to 72c etc. They already replaced my bed right away before any of this info came out. It happened a couple times when brand new, then a couple days later it did it every time.

    i got mine 4 days ago, and I love this thing. I have no damage but I will stop immediately because I would like to get a fix or compromise.

      I know! The A1 is so good, but this cable issue is frustrating to say the least. Hoping the resolutions are available shortly.

      @@LoyalMoses I know people are flaming Bambu over how much info they are putting out, but I don't care, Creality still hasn't gotten back to me after 3 years of trying to get a fix for my ender 5 pro. I gave up with them and made myself a fix.

    As I mentioned, blaming this on shipping or assembly was silly from the start. It's clearly a design flaw. Not saying that's the worst thing ever. It's all about how they handle it, and at least they are handling it. We all know of issues with other 3D printers that were handled poorly, like you said. Bummer for buyers and Bambu Lab, but better safe than sorry for sure.

      It's easy to sit back and judge, so I won't do it. I think they are handling it very well, and far better than we have seen in the past, and I want to encourage this level of responsibility so that others see their example.

      @@LoyalMoses I just calls it like I sees it. As soon as the issue became apparent, it was obvious it wasn't a shipping or assembly issue to me. Like I said though, I'm glad they're handling it well. It's also always possible for me to be wrong, I just try to admit when I am. Best any of us can do. ;) I do agree with you on praising and encouraging responsibility! I don't think this will harm Bambu Lab's reputation long term and will instead foster trust they will handle issues.

    Been considering Bambu Labs for my next printer, certainly disappointing, but having them own this issue is a thumbs up. Lets see how the finally resolve this issue.

      The biggest upside is they have plenty of models to choose from, and the a1 is the only one affected at the moment.

    Level headed response. No click bait or bashing.
    Very quickly becoming one of my favourite 3d printing channels.
    I have the A1 and as annoyed as I am I’m grateful they are sorting it.
    My original Ender 3 had the same issue with the head bed connector catching fire that they ignored us all for years

      Thank you! Very kind. I know, it's frustrating for sure. I really like my A1 and I am not sure what their solution will be, but I am sure it will be the right one and they are taking this very seriously.
      My gosh, that's exactly what I was referring to. We've had so many terrible support and safety issues for years in our industry. I am glad to see this changing.

      I'm just missing one thing. Why people who have the cable in a good condition are urged to stop using A1 immediately? What's reasoning behind that? Is there some additional hidden issue that we don't know about?

    Bravo to you & Bambu... this indeed does inspire some confidence. This is how engineers handle problems. Quickly investigate, act (with the previously mentioned stl chord support), investigate and listen to users to find out it's a bigger problem, adjust and act again to end the threat, then pause to redesign. Beautifully enacted and explained within the period of a couple weeks.

    Dude, you're killing me. I absolutely loved my A1, but alas, I'm thankful for your message. I bought mine at Microcenter, and so I have the ability to return it. Sadly, its been boxed up and its now going back

    I already have cable support on mine. Printed one before they made any announcement. I plan on using mine (though will not leave it running unattended). Especially seeing as I have not been notified by the manufacturer yet.

    I really love this printer. It's my 4th 3d printer ever bought and this one has been smooth sailing for me the previous 3 (from other brands) were rather disappointing. This is such a bummer. I don't want/need the P or the X series, and I like the mini also, but the small bed is a show stopper for me. If I have to return this, I'd really like to have the same printer with upgraded components. I hope they won't discontinue this model over that stupid cable issue. In worse case scenario, I might just get the P series, but I'm not super enthusiastic about those.

    Them releasing this to 'influencers'(not my words) first seemed to really upset people. I personally see no issue with this, but I do find fault in them not sending the same message out to people who own it, on their blog, and official socials.

      @@LoyalMosesany tips on getting support from Bambu... as just a normal everyday pleeb, I talk at them (not to them) almost daily now too, but its because they've yet to resolve my missing order thats quickly approaching 30 days of being lost and of having an open support ticket and ZERO actual support (they responded once, but their response was quoting the delivery estimate, and not even reading the details of the actual ticket).

    I'm glad they are being honest about it now, at first they seemed to be trying to push the blame onto users and delivery companies. However I do wish they'd engage with each of us that have an A1 in the same way they have with you. I waited 4 days for a ticket reply only for it to basically say keep waiting. These things weren't cheap and we deserve to know how they are going to fix things in a timely manner. I keep hearing things like it'll take 3 months to replace and they'll only do it if you kept the original packaging....thats just not good enough. Of course this is all rumour as Bambu keep moving the goalposts when it comes to a solution. I think people will start to loose faith in them if they don't actually start to fix the issues ASAP

      I think your explanation is going to be way better than the one they sent me! I am guessing they are working on the official guide for everyone right now. I am hoping they do this all as fast as possible, but of course as safely as it can be done.

    Loyal. Another great video. I bought my A1 to give as a gift for my sons Bday next week. It is still new in the box. My question is if I return the printer and wait for the A1 updated printer will i be buying a rebuilt printer with possibly several hours already printed on that machine or will it be a complete new machine.

    Do we have a more up todate post from Bambu? That blog has different information from what you are saying. It still says you can print the file as a fix if you have a cable without damage.

    Guess a lot of people owe you an apology for saying you just did this for likes now that Bambu has come out with an official announcement. I'm happy with there new solution however think they did you a disservice leaving you being the one to break this news to the world for a few days with all the doubt it put on you. Thank you for trying your best to get the word out.

    I bought the A1combo and 14 spools of filament a month ago. I'm not rich. Now I have all this money just sitting here. I really hope that Bambu comes through and corrects my problem and everyone elses.

    I just got this printer today. Already took out of the box and assembled. Saw the news accidentally while researching filaments to buy. I bought this because two Creality printers failed me and had to return both.

    i received the first email but i have not received any 2nd email regarding a full Stop use. Actually this is the only source i can find anything about a complete stop use at all. Including bambus website, forum, and blog. Also all of thier social medias say nothing about a complete stop use.

      @@ivoidwarrantiesuk I don't dissagree but where I have yet to see any actual recall on this other then the stop use if you see damage Bambu said themselves if no damage present then continue use. I see no official stop use or total recall notification from any Bambu sources.

    I have been printing like a mad tihng with my A1 Combo. I printed the cable mod and attached it and only this morning I had a 13hr print sitting waiting for me on the print bed when I awoke. Going to be hard to NOT use it when it seems to be working so well.

    Was on the fence between the A1 and P1S, in the end I just threw the extra money and bought the P1S combo. I'm having a blast with that thing.
    Hoping all A1 users get to enjoy their new investment without concern asap. Indeed a very mature reaction from Bambu on this issue.

      It could be, there is a printer printing in the room and I am running filters to remove it.

    Good for Bambu Labs for taking action and stepping up like they have. I can't recall any other printer manufacturer do anything like this to support the customers. I understand this is a major issue and it will disrupt so many people, but I would rather Bambu do what they are doing rather than making it the end users problem.

    I came close to buying the A1! I have the A1Mini, but I haven’t seen anything about a cable issue on the Mini.

      The mini is just fine, totally different cable. The A1 is such a good machine, it's sad that this cable has had an issue - but when this is all solved, the industry will be better for it.

    Did you do your heatbed yet? Got an email that mine will ship soon but i see a bunch of people have them already. Would be cool to see a video of someone going through the whole process like also taking the pics after and sending

    i bought an A1 last week. it came in DOA, box was mint, i submitted a ticket for it. got the recall notification a couple of days later and i had to submit a ticket because i got a printer with a kink in the cable. they responded to the heat table ticket and have yet to respond to the DOA ticket. i wasn’t able to run a start up calibration because of it. i have received an automated message for this issue but that’s it so far. we’ll see what happens i suppose.

    Thanks for making this announcement, it’s appreciated. While my daughter and I have been loving our A1 purchased for Christmas, (several articulated dragons have been born, shared with friends, and taken to show and tell), we have no problem putting our printing on hold until this is sorted out. A move like this by Bambu actually gives me confidence in the company. When we do resume, I will definitely have fire extinguishers on hand as recommended in one of your earlier videos. Quite frankly, it’s something I hadn’t considered, but makes complete sense. Keep the great content coming.

    I got one back in December, hasn't worked right out of the box tool head malfunction and hotend fan stop working and bambu labs has not offered a replacement.

    The day the recall happened i was in microcenter about to buy an A1 but they told me I couldn’t buy it because they were recalled so i bought the P1S 😂 not disappointed

    The only question I have in this situation is how they sending this out to their partners but not posting it on their blog. As of now the last blog post still is from Jan 28 and states only to stop printing when the cable is damaged - what am I missing here?

    I thought about buying my first 3d printer last night, then I noticed the A1 is not "In Stock". I guess this is why lol

      Yes, unfortunately that is default now. I am really trying to make sure that I represent my community and audiences and help guide our industry forward in a more positive way. Bambu is doing the right thing, and we should support that, while of course not ignoring the seriousness.

    This stuff happens. Glad to see Bambu seems to be attempting to do right by their customers. Just got an x1c, and so far I'm extremely impressed. I have high hopes for Bambu. I look forward to seeing what how they resolve this.

    Well, I'm glad I decided to wait a few months to see what faults started showing up and how they were dealt with, instead of buying one of these as soon as I heard about them!
    It's great they're taking this seriously.
    But every time I look at closeups of that cable, I can't feel any surprise it's become a problem. While it clearly passed pre-release testing, it just looks totally unsuited to the real world long term job of hundreds of thousands of back/ forth movements of various distances and speeds. Hopefully they come up with a better mix of flex material and strain relief, and get everyone printing again quickly.

    I am no Bambu fan boy, but I do appreciate this move by them, there are plenty of 3D printer manufacturers out there that have had serious issues with a model but continued to sell them and never really addressed the issue, anyone who has ever had a Creality Ender 5 knows what I'm talking about, the cable management on that was dog sh**e at best.

    I have a question.
    My cable looks fine. Even so, it would apply? I’m new at this, and in the case is necessary, I wanna change the bed by myself. I receive the email today. Because what I understood is that the solution of the return or they sending you the bed were only if your cable looked damade (English it’s not my first language, sorry if my grammatical isn’t the best)

    Hello, i've had my a1 for a week now and its kinda upsetting of being slapped in the face with this recall, with that being said since for lack of better words my printer is so young would i be fine or should i be cautious?

    I am very happy and thankful that they admit and took action.
    On the other hand why I have to find out that I can’t use my A1 because is fire hazard from a youtube?
    They did not send me email or something else.
    Anyway but what now? I will have a printer just to stay and catching dust.
    They have to give a choice if we want to wait to figure it out or to refund us. I will buy P1S instead.

    Highly appreciate this and their transparency. However, stop until when & how long will we have to hear what's the next step??
    I run an online shop and now I have to halt it yet again! SMH
    Got a Creality K1 December 2023 and it was terrible and broke down, got an A1 now I can't use it and have to stop my shop yet again. Both of these companies take a LONG time to send these machines to us. This really is upsetting as a newbie I feel like I can't pick a right machine!! I'm gonna return A1 and quit printing. These machines aren't for newbies

      I agree, it seems to be a bit tight back there, especially with the cable connector fix they directed us to put on. I'm also not a huge fan of the long flimsy data cable for the extruder, I have since printed out a drag chain for it and its much better off with it. I returned my Ankermake M5C for the A1 as its way better in terms of the tech, but I will admit that the Ankers have superb build quality and their wires are nice and thick

      And the only proper way to react before government entities gets involved and ban the product/forces a recall. Does the A1 has any electrical safety certification from a testing lab like UL?

    Interesting. I checked and I didn't receive this email yet, only the first one about the potential issues. I double checked and my A1 looks fine, but I have no problem waiting a while to see what happens. I do like that Bambu is taking this seriously, they have a big reputation and I would hate to see it come down (not to mention people's homes burning down...) if this was handled incorrectly.
    On a side note, I have been saving up money and I'm about to buy an X1C with the ams soon, so hype :)

      @@LoyalMoses Just waiting on my tax return, its a small one but its the final push I need lol. Also, if you check Bambu's blog, they have a new post as of an hour ago where they say that only 0.1% of A1's have this cable issue, and that you can either keep the A1 and get a revised heatbed in March and $120 voucher for their website, or return the A1 for a full refund plus $80 site voucher. They say a revised A1 will be on sale in May... I know a lot of people won't be happy about this but they are doing the right thing.
      So now i'm thinking, I love my A1 and it has no issues but it is better to be safe than sorry. I could return it and get my $730ish I spent back and put that towards the X1C or even a side p1p or p1s. Or just keep the money... Oh boy I have to think about this one. I really like the A1 and a part of me just wants to keep it too!

    Weird the only message I’ve gotten from Bambu is do not use if cable is damaged. Otherwise print the adaptor thing and put it on and 👍🏻. I haven’t even seen an official announcement from them stating a full recall/ full stop use statement yet.

      Thanks for making things video. I love the A1 and AMS. It’s amazing. Miles ahead of the printer we got and returned. We received the message through the app. Even with this issue, I’m stoked on their products. Taking responsibility and offering solutions is good business and great for the community. I’m confident that they’ll step things up with QC and be forthcoming if/when products don’t meet a certain standard.

      No, the mini uses a different design, the big A1 is the only one affected. DC vs AC heater.

    I keep a fire extinguisher handy at my workbench just in case. That goes for all my printers - even my Prusa. Because human error is natural, and accidents happen.

    I see a online store in greece with 20 A1.s in stock one day and in one sec. thay have 0 i think babou not only sends email.s to owners of this printers but is doing a recall to unsold one !

    Sigh...it os extremely frustrating....A1 is my ONLY printer... I'm brand new and having fun trying things...now I cant? I don't have a backup printer or old one to turn to... hoping for a super fast solution and not wait months

    I think this is a PR win. It's expensive, but I think it will pay dividends in the long run. It improves my opinion of Bambu Lab quite a bit even though I am currently stuck in their customer service limbo.

    Welp I turned tables between my k1 max and told to go to bambu and have the a1 combo it worked well until this bad occurrence happened. I'm leaning towards getting a p1s combo seems like it is a awesome printer and would hate to pause my printing hobby for however long it takes bambu lab to fix the situation.

      @LoyalMoses I looked at the p1s previously before the a1 series but it was a bit over budget for me but now that I got my refund for my k1 max and will get a refund for the a1 I think I would go with the p1s combo I do hate that the touch screen is not as good as the x1c but not sure if the x1c is much better than the p1s

    I tried to return my a1 and they want me to pay 75$ shipping charges and advise against me using my own shipping as they will have to
    Deduct for damages likely. I hate the customer service delays also it took nearly 5 or 6 days to get an email back the first time.

    It’s an issue but let’s face facts. The anet a8 has similar issues, the ender 3 had issues with thermal runaway.
    In the old days we had to manup and deal with it. Chances are this is what we will have to do as they have now removed the option to get a replacement part or printer or refund.

    This is a very good move that Bambu has done about this because yes a lot of 3d printer manufactures would and have let things like this go and insist that its user's fault not there product i hope Bambu get this fixed right away and should let all customers that have bought an a1 to stop using them they must be able to send an email to people using them.

    Looks like your options are: 1) Send the printer back and get $80 on a different item. 2) Have Bambu send you a new cable and build plate to replace yourself which looks like you will also get a $120 voucher for another item as well for keeping the printer.

      Those are the options, but the assumption of not working through the holiday is not correct, they have emailed me directly and said they are working around the clock and have staff working through the holiday.

    I'm really bummed about this. I've got a abi so I'm not in a position to earn a lot of money. I spent a long while saving then choosing the A1 and to be frank, I was getting some enjoyment out of life for the first time in a long time (years). Now it's packed up in a room with an indefinite wait ahead of when I can purchase another printer and get back to some enjoyment. It's hard to explain and I don't have any ill-will, just bummed about it. Cheers.

      @@LoyalMoses Thankyou mate. I appreciate the sentiment. I've had to go the refund route because Aussie insurance wont cover non-certified work on AC equipment. I need to check for any updates as there was no word or suggestion on what to do with the accessory pack purchased at the same time (nozzles). Even if I were to just pay extra and get a P1S the nozzles still aren't compatible :/

    I literally bought an A1 a week ago and I haven't received an email from bambu lab talking about this. I have seen it in channels like this, but shouldn't they email the customers too?

      ​@LoyalMoses I wasn't trying to be a Jerk. It's nice to see an official statement finally. I'm keeping mine and opting for the replacement bed. The $120 voucher is going to go to an A1 mini. I'm still going to print.😝😝😝
